Do y’all know Zico and Namjoon were friends and knew eachother during their time in the underground scene?? They made a song together called Fuck cockroaches : https://youtu.be/vmlH4l3r7e4. Also Namjoon’s rap was a response to another rapper name Bobby who is in the group IKON. Bobby dissed Namjoon and all the other idol rappers as a predebut trainee and made fun of them because they were idols but he become a idol a year later after this performance lol. Funny story is that Bobby was actually here at the awards show and he shook Namjoon’s hand backstage lol.

Charlene Newton

Zico is back from service and I cannot wait to see what he has in store musically. I know his company which was is now in the Hybe family was auditioning for trainees. His artist in the company put out some great music

U should check out when bts and got7 battled

Mama is the equivalent to The Grammys. Before Jimin shirt ripping the other idols would sit and be very cold. Unless it was the other big group at the time on stage YG. But Jimin make them lose them cool with that shirt ripping. You should see a video of them leaving the venue and Jungkook telling a reporter that she was a little too excited. She was more than excited, a high schooler telling her that. Jimin was on everyone’s lips after this show..

I forgot about this omg I love Zico he’s amazing

You guys should def react to more Zico music or even block b bc they have some grungier songs too

OT7Bangtan

I'm biased, and proud of it. If we're choosing winners...BTS! From Block B I will say Zico is DOPE! I'm not gonna take anything away from his skill and presence. As a group, BTS ran the stage. BTS's presence eve back in 2014 seems natural. Even the way they were dressed. It wasn't over the top. They have confidence about them then that I still see now. The dance break from Hope and Jimin...*mic drop

ada

I believe Zico and RM are friends from way back? Hobi and Jimin *wiping sweat* whew. Jimin..oh boy this one.. I'm always conflicted how I feel about this LMAO

HOPE KILLED THIS SHIT!!!!!!!

It was an interesting collaboration. It was so nice to show off their charms. Now, you guys finally started watching 'MAMA' and 'MMA'! I'm very happy 😊

Teresa Nike

I think BTS killed the dance battle, and the individual group song, but im going to go there , but block b brought the rap . Im army through and through but im sorry Zico brought it. Over all it was all in fun and I loved it.

Tri

I'm biased but RM killed it.

RDM46

I love RM’s rapping style… Just think for battle purposes, Zico edged him (in my opinion)… I respect your opinion tho 🙏🏽

Block B debuted back in 2011, also for me I preferred RMs rap which was a response to a diss than Zico’s verse of his tough cookie song.

Anonymous

Also ikon didn’t debut until 2015

Anonymous

Yesss been waiting on these MAMA'S & MMA performances I can't wait for more please keep em coming 😊🙏💜 yall stay safe and healthy

ARMYnotArmy

This was before the Bobby thing. Ikon debuted in late 2015, this was 2014. But it's easy to make that mistake since this has been labeled as a 2015 performance when others upload it. But this rap wasn't the one that contained the part for Bobby.

ARMYnotArmy

Okay so there's a bit to unpack with this performance. That actually almost didn't happen, there were some issues with Block B's company at the time. To be honest they got tossed around a lot from 2011 when they debuted, they've been in multiple companies... but yeah- So, things did come together though, but it wasn't in the way MAMA had planned. So- Some history- Block B debuted in 2011, Block B's leader was Zico. Who many know now as one of the more successful K-rappers in the industry in SK. Well... Before his time as Block B's leader he was an underground rapper. Zico and RM have been friends for years, and often collaborated together. The two have multiple songs floating around that they've done together. Namjoon was around 14 when he met Zico and the two became fast friends. So imagine being the Leader of BTS, or the Leader of Bock B and being told you're going to have a 'battle' theme stage at MAMA... against your friend's group. If you watch, you can clearly see Namjoon and Zico taking it more like a collab stage rather than a rap battle between the two. But okay, why? Didn't they practice it and weren't they encouraged to treat this as a battle? Well... yes. Both groups were encouraged to be aggressive without being the typical foul mouthed. So, keep it clean raps only, but be aggressive. Not a problem, both have written a lot of raps without harsh cursing. They could choose any rap they already had.. Yet we clearly see RM and Zico treating this more like when they performed together in the underground. Their body language isn't exactly screaming 'I'm going to bury you alive' it's more like 'hey let's do this shit and go grab a meal'. <-- which many ARMYs back then insisted was what they said to each other before they came out to the stage. lol. Even the 'dance battle' was seen more of a - Hey friends, we're going to do our thing real quick.. okay now you. And then Hobi and Jimin killed it, no contest, and the others were smiling still and happy. Back then, many of us who watched live knew this was not going to be what they were trying to present it as. Because we knew Block B and BTS are actually friends, the closest ones being RM and Zico. But, companies, broadcasters wanted to try to pit whoever against BTS. Because back then... almost everyone in SK wanted to see BTS fail. They wanted them to slip up... But much like Jin as soon as the camera's on him at any award show every- Ain't ever gonna catch BTS slipping. We call this the Block B AND Bangtan Collab Special collab stage. most of us from back then do not consider this a battle... I mean it's easy to see these two groups didn't even consider it a battle, but they showed up and they rocked the stage. 2014 MAMA also had crappy camera work, as we see... they just didn't care when it came to BTS back then. Gotta love those behind shots.. like sure, he looks good from behind but can we see and appreciate his face? Rumor was that Block B changed their song for their dance part... but BTS made a fuss of it. Rumors like this went around along with antis saying Block B was paid to go easy on BTS, because they were babies still. Some even threw out that BigHit paid off MAMA and Block B... money where? lol. Personally, I think they showed their best and didn't take this as a serious theme. I think both groups had the respect for one another... and sure, Jimin and Hobi are going to make 98% of those dancers back then look like performers for kids, because dance is a huge passion for both and both have the skills to show that passion in full force. Honestly... they went easy. That's not the best from those two but that leads to my thoughts that both groups didn't take this seriously. They just wanted to put on a show, and that's what they did. A collaboration stage. And, to note- because I noticed someone thought this was the RM rap about Bobby from Ikon... this was 2014 MAMA, Ikon didn't debut till late 2015, this was not that incident... that was provoked by YG... and put out by both rappers who are on good terms with one another. I'll explain more if that incident gets brought up in another reaction. I'm sure it's bound to at some point. Anyway- Thanks again for the great content, really appreciate it. 💜💜💜

RDM46

Thank you for this queen… It’s nice to get perspective from someone who’s been around since day 1… Your message clarified a few things for us 💜💜

Jimin and Hobi came to win

I couldn’t respond to you from my comment but I know this performance was from 2014 but Bobby made references to Namjoon a few times on SMTM back in 2014 which is what Namjoon actually said himself plus Bobby was on the show back in 2014. Bobby apparently dissed Bts and Boyfriend. Namjoon then mentioned that Bobby seemed to be targeting to him/bts again with his song “Come here”. Joon then mentioned that he would feel like an idiot if he didn’t respond so he thought abt using lyrics from RM1 for this particular MAMA stage but quote “However, after listening to ‘Come Here’, I quickly changed the lyrics to reply to Bobby. He then went on to say Bobby greeted him backstage and he high five him and he told Namjoon that he mouthed the lyrics as well.

Redemption Panel....don't be scared to say BTS swept that!! We all know the truth!😁

Back in those days I hated the camera men they would totally gaslight bts performances and the crowd was full of haters it was awful it gets better through the years. As far as the performance goes zico brought it but Jhope and Jimin then that group performance of danger made bts standout more.

lord aconite

Yall probably never seen it, but there was a song when zico and joon were like little kids like 12-14ish they made together with their pre-puberty voices it's so cute, it's called "Fuck Coachroachez", Also that was EXO, Baekhyun really did love this song and in the fancams you could see he was doing the choreo and got embarrassed that the cameras showed him

ARMYnotArmy

Yes, he was on SMTM pre-debut. 'Come here' was Master Wu's song that Bobby managed to get a feature on. It was released december 1st if I remember correctly. But that was after SMTM season 3 when Bobby won. This is the rap that bobby made toward RM- They call me a monster It’s not a name I made You prefer a full-length mirror over a basement dungeon, don’t you? If skills are looks, then I’m Won Bin in front of bulletproof glass. - this is a rough translation. It was a minor jab as far as disses go. But this song was on Master Wu's album. He dissed Boyfriend on SMTM in his performance of Bounce. And he jabbed at Ravvi too. There was no Jab at BTS but there was a line in one of his SMTM raps that insulted idol rappers, which some took for some reason, to mean BTS. However that was never confirmed and the line wasn't specific so many pointed out it just seemed to be a general diss against Idol rappers. - Ravvi replied back to Bobby's diss on him, RM also replied back, the reason why some think THIS performance was the response was because of one line- "Put your guard up and follow me rapper, tone deaf rapper" Which was obscure and could have been about anyone. RM did speak on the matter- Saying how he felt about Bobby's Jab. He never said he'd feel like an idiot if he didn't respond though- that was a mix of rumor and bad translation. RM said if it was a diss he would have been more aggressive about it. He didn't see what Bobby said as anything more than a light jab, a jab that he only said one thing about- that one line in this performance. He also said that he and Bobby could gain something- attention from this, he saw it as entertainment rather than taking it personal. As long as they were not at each other's throats and actually fighting, more could be gained. Bobby went on to Jab at him again though once Ikon was out- and that was responded to not as vaguely as this- and the two shook hands backstage at that time, not here. But some think it was here because of when Come Here was released, and when this performance was made- so people assumed it was backstage here... but it wasn't. He did see RM backstage as again- he was with Master Wu for their performance of Master Wu's come here, Dok2 was also there and performed. Bobby did chill with other rappers backstage at MAMA and RM and him did exchange some words, but it was a quick passing thing. It wasn't till later they actually shook hands and laughed about this little 'battle'. And even further down the road Bobby was questioned about his second diss to RM, the more outspoken one. He refused to say anything because that rap part was written for him, it wasn't his doing- so in an interview when he was asked about it, he passed the mic to the YG producer beside him. He responded that these insults are just something rappers do, and how competition is healthy. He's not wrong, but Bobby himself wasn't fond of the second 'jab' either. And many of his fans knew he could do better too. Bobby and Namjoon didn't hold any ill feelings towards each other- After that though, they didn't take little jabs at one another and remained friendly. They're not close, but even to now they're friendly if they see each other. Other members in Ikon are friends with some of the members of BTS though. But anyway- you were not exactly wrong. I thought you were talking about the main jab, not the light one that I honestly don't even consider a jab. And RM's line here was so vague it isn't considered his response. So my correction to you was based on that- which is my mistake for not including this first little poke from Bobby, but again.. it was no big deal, the second Jab was a bigger deal... but it was still tame- mostly, in my opinion, because Bobby didn't write the second jab. In the end though, neither Bobby or Namjoon took it seriously. However some like to bring it up like it was some huge insult. It wasn't. But yeah, I don't count this tiny thing as the Bobby and RM thing, many of us don't because this wasn't the jab that got the most attention and caused some issues with other things. I'm sure it will get brought up. The trouble is this part of it though was so blown out of the water with rumors and people trying to translate and people just exaggerating this. But it wasn't like that at all. This wasn't the part that caused some issues.

I was waiting patiently until you guys saw Jimin's part and I wasn't dissapointed at all LOL...this is the BTS I fell in love, the eager on his eyes, they didn't come to play, imagine they were still rookies back then and they murder it! I have to admit this reaction wasn't expected at all but I am happy you did it, btw guys I wonder what were Zico and RM's toughts since they know each other since their background rappers days, they were great friends back then...for me I feel that Zico is one of the few rappers that is on Namjoon's level, the rap part was a tie for me, in general BTS make a big impact with this performance back in 2014 MAMA, was iconic!, btw I get what Keith mentioned on the dance part....Block B did a nice job but BTS just come to kill, they just eat the whole stage, J-Hope and Jimin murder it!

Anonymous

I love the debate « is removing you shirt dance or not » 😂

RDM46

Ctfu... I just thought it was a part of the performance

Elena

Jimin and Jhope murdered it! Mic drop to that! Please also watch Jimin's martial art experience (link below) so you have an idea how he's able to do those tricks.

lmao i love zico's verse but RM was kind of straight savage some might say he took it more/too seriously, because his lyrics was hardcore diss calling someone ass (not sure who he pointed this to but could be no one because it’s just a diss) but he thought it is straight up a blockb bts diss battle but zico took it in another way and he rapped one of his verse in tough cookie I know that RM at the beginning, also Zico were underground rappers and were friends (think they are still friends and Zico is still kind of in the underground rap scene) but RM just had alot of anger at the beginning to prove his worth/point because a lot of underground rappers look down at former underground rappers who left the scene to be more mainstream or idol rappers and he mentioned he lost a lot of friends from the rap scene just because he joined Bus so if you see RM’s first mixtape in comparison to his second mixtape, there is a huge difference in the way he rap. I feel like his second mixtape is where he comes to term with his identity and his thoughts but his first mixtape was very aggressive he change so much and grow so much as a person (I don’t know just want to share that because its kinda interesting ;) and it would be kind of interesting to check out some of RM’s first mixtape songs with subtitles

😁😁😁😁

kc

jimin n hobi ate them up i'm sorry

strawberry jam

It's crazy how now RM and ZICO are now both under hybe lol

Caroline B.

they were supposed to rap verses from their songs but RM decided to write a whole new verse on a new beat just for this performance, the lyrics were pretty hard if you look them up, that's why his seems a bit more raw a less polished, it was more of a diss while Zico's was more of a song
