Yayyy, one of favorite BTS songs

dulseokbangtan

This era is EASILY my favourite of BTS' this video goes along with the BU storyline but you still get the gist of it standalone. 💜

Anonymous

Next you have to react to RUN, it's like the sequel to this MV

Erica Phifer

Spot on with some of the things you guys noticed with the song and MV. Love this song a lot

Anonymous

you should definitely watch the run mv next! it connects with this one:)

You guys nailed it! Welcome to the BU

This was during the time when the company didn't have much money so the extras and cars in the tunnel scene are their managers and belong to the staff. The boys also got a big award for this song. Nick is right, rarely do their choreo, beat and lyrics match. GoGo and Baepsae are good examples. There is a warning for this video, so under 19 have a different video and then there's this original version. Jimin, Jhope, JK and Suga all k!lled themselves and V killed his father. BTS were not the first nor only to tackle these types of topics in their music, I think the other songs I heard were from 1st & 2nd gen groups but I guess they have more(?) songs on the subject, as a group and individuals. Other groups/artists have 1 or 2 based on what I've heard, but BTS speak out on it more often. In terms of political criticism, I don't know of any 3rd gen groups doing it the way BTS have. How am I just seeing the BTS merch in front, y'all should build a case to showcase all your kpop merch. Clear acrylic would look really nice with how the studio looks. Similar to this but taller. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B083CZPR7P/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_B6QAB95F26BVX83T95Q1 😭😭😭 I'm sorry. You can also sync your bomb to music videos, but you gotta watch them on vlive I think.

RDM46

THANKS QUEEN.. WE BOUT TO BUILD UP A BTS COLLECTION ON THE TABLE LOL.. AND I LOVE THIS SONG.. CAN'T WAIT FOR RUN... DEF GOTTA SYNC THE BOMB LOL

Ayeee start of the BU. The next videos that are in the BU to react to are: on stage prologue, Run, Young Forever MV

Cynthia Newman

YES! "Bangtan Universe!" WELCOME TO THE RABBIT HOLE!! "On Stage Prologue" is Next & than "Run"! Can't wait for your Journey going forward! Welcome to the BU!

Lala woods

To answer Kurt’s question how I interpreted the last scene is I thought it was the ocean and the video was done😭😭 I’m sorry Kurt I don’t think too deeply when it comes to stuff like that this is why I look forward to hearing you Kurt the teacher 😅 when watching this MV I usually get sad but Nick and Keith won’t let me get in my feelings 😂 omg y’all are funny

In South Korea, it's Taboo to talk about Mental Health. According to a piece that was done, it was called a Joke because theirs no help & u get ridiculed for it! So for them to NOT ONLY switch their sound but talk about a subject matter that went against the norm was unheard of & looked down upon. They were brave & spoke out on a risky move, but it obviously paid off

Haru

Enjoyed this reaction. I agree with Keith on how he interpreted that the "she" might also represent them as a group, I think so too. Hope yall react to "on stage: prologue" next. It's the continuation and it's got some serious acting chops from them. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bt8648TNX1M I listened to kpop prior 2013. BTS isn't the "pioneer" to speak up about such themes but I do know there isnt any group that time that produces music that's heavily focused on socio-political themes/topics. I mean their group name is literally "Bulletproof Boyscouts" and they had this mindset to break stereotypes and talk about what adolescents go through. In terms of political issues, I don't know any groups that time that talk of it in their music as often and as hard as them. Their song GoGo btw was actually banned from SK television because of its message. I know yall reacted to the performance and the song was a bop lmao but it actually tackles a socio-political issue.

RDM46

NOT TO COMPARE BUT THATS HOW IT IS IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY.. WE'RE TAUGHT TO BE STORNG AND NOT LET ANYONE KNOW ARE FEELINGS... I FEEL LIKE MENTAL HEALTH SHOULD BE TAKEN SERIOUS WITH EVERYONE..

Yes Keith was spot on regarding the song. RM originally wanted it to be I need u friend but it didn’t sound that good so he changed it to girl but it’s not really about a girl.

Anonymous

And yes a new chapter the beginning of the BU 🥳

Anonymous

The thing I love about BTS is not only do they mention it in their music continuously which is a big thing but they also have mentioned in their personal lives RM has mentioned seeing a therapist, Yoongi has talked about his depression and social phobia. And Jin and V also said they became depressed during the pandemic and that’s how we have songs like blue and grey and Abyss. I do think that by BTS opening up about this and the K-pop community seeing the importance of mental health with other idol tragedies, it has made other current idols more at ease or comfortable to share their issues. I know Han from Stray Kids has taken some mini breaks even during promoting due to anxiety and/or social phobia, same with Mingi from Ateez who took almost a yr off.

Aside from this MV being heavy on Bangtan Universe, the song as well in ways- I'm not going to get into the BU stuff because I don't know if you guys want to cover that, and honestly, I'd rather watch you guys go through it piece by piece and give your theories and such as you go along. So, with all that aside- Yes, this song is THE song that got them their big award. This song was a new chapter for them and Keith is right, the word 'Girl' in this song isn't pertaining to one actual person, nor is it a female. it can be, everyone is different but for this MV and the storyline- 'Girl' was the other members. However, RM said that when writing the lyrics, 'Girl' made more sense and fit better. This song does touch on mental health and such. As for were they the first? No. Seo Taiji and Boys were the first to jump on a mic with hip hop/electronic sounds and criticize the South Korean government, the hierarchy, the school system, mental health. However, since the creation of the entertainment companies, the first official Kpop group- H.O.T, and up until 2013, The music industry had very few people criticizing the system. Most of the ones who did were solo artists/smaller groups from small companies that were usually snuffed out under 5 years. Or, made a handful of songs that went against the government and then that group suddenly stopped making appearances on broadcasts. And that group couldn't book anything till they finally ran out of money and had no choice but to disband. So yes, there were others, not a lot, and I don't recall any of them being from the big 3 companies. Some fans might interpret a singer or group touching on something, but I'm talking about full on talking about it in a song. Not a quick mention hidden under vapid lyrics of hot bodies and dancing and drinking (like most of the songs from the 2000's). BTS is the first other than Seo Taiji to pretty much talk about these topics often, which in part is why a lot of Koreans say BTS reminds them of Seo Taiji, they have been called the Seo Taiji and the boys of the 3rd Generation. There's a Documentary on K-Pop that DKDKTV did and I think it's worth a watch, if you don't react to it, fine, but it's certainly worth a watch. Also, It might be cool to see you react to Seo Taiji's 25th anniversary performances with BTS. They had BTS perform some songs with them at their show and it was amazing. I don't have the links for all like... 8 or so parts I think it was... but if I can find them or the whole thing then I'll link it. Or if anyone else has it, I hope they link it. You'll hear often that Mental health is a joke in SK, and it is. What needs to be understood is that while Koreans care about health, they are against certain medicine and certain practices. They believe certain medicine is addictive and only causes more problems. Which has led to their being such a strong ban on medicines coming into SK. An Idol got help overseas and when she tried to go back into SK, she was searched, given a drug test, and held till they could get confirmation that a legit doctor perscribed those 'drugs' to her for her anxiety.... the whole fiasco caused her to have an anxiety attack and they had to take her to the hospital because they didn't know what was going on and 'had' to watch her like a hawk till they got the information they needed. Now, all she really had to do was just show them a doctors note clarifying the medication and what it's for. But I am telling this because it shows how serious they can be about certain medicines. There are mental health centers in SK, but not many. And those who use the services provided often hide it, in fear of being criticized or outcasted by their peers. Some even fear being fired from work if it were to be known they are taking medication for mental health, or are actively seeing a therapist. Bare in mind, not everyone thinks this way, there are progressive thinkers, and things are slowly getting a bit better in the last 4-5 years. BUT, they are still not where they need to be. There still isn't a lot of support, there isn't a lot of help. The saying use to be- 'It's better to just end this life than try looking for help'. I cannot say if this is still used a lot, but with more and more Idols coming out about their struggles and the public seems to be more sympathetic, however there still isn't a lot of help offered to normal everyday people. And not everyone can afford the bills for getting help. But Rome wasn't built in a day, and all we can do is hope things get better for them. I talked enough for now lol. Thanks for the great reaction and talk. 💜💜💜

"I need you" era was the time BTS just bloom and I think was the time when the guys finally start to find their colors, their identity as artist...they were more comfortable with their music and "I need you" got them their first award on Korean music shows, definitely this song has a special place on the fandom's heart, is so powerful, the mv, the lyrics...definitely that song was the breaking point for BTS, hope guys you can react also to "I need you" dance practice, one of my favorites coreos of BTS btw, thanks for the reaction :)

laura

there are actually A LOT of easter eggs in this mv alone. i guess once you get into more of the BU it will all come together. So glad you are getting into this! Really like when all of you dissect their music. and love Kurt's comments as always lol

The HYYH era or Youth trilogy is the second era of their career, it's mostly connected to the BU. Both Run and INU have a sort of desperation and nostalgia to them. I think JK said that I Need U is a sad song with happiness behind it, then Run is a happy song with sadness behind it. My favorite one from this era is "Epilogue: Young Forever" and I'm sure you'll get to this. ARMY surprised BTS at Wembley singing this song and they got very emotional, as it's a special song to them, especially for Jimin.

Oh man … the BTS universe is something you need to get into… the different dimensions and time lines in this jump around.
