I know that I am A million years too late but I upped my tier and started watching these from the beginning. I'm sorry for this long-winded essay about how good AHL was for BTS. All in all, every lesson that you guys bashed/didn't understand why they were taught the basics, they went on to use and it's what formed them. The beatboxing became a staple for Jhope and Jungkook following the show, you get a lot of great freestyle moments from RM and Suga happening while Jhope layed the beat behind them. In addition, everything they learned was for a purpose not everyone learned to beatbox Jin( who is not a student of hip-hop) and Jhope did Jin needed the basics, and those who does know some things would be there for support and also rhythmically inclined as a dancer so beatboxing an excellent thing for him to learn to incorporate the rhythm of his body to his musical journey. RM and Suga were already in the studio making beats they didn't have that lesson cuz they didn't need it. Them going to the street/neighborhood, giving food, and talking to the less fortunate is a thing that they brought back to Korea with them. They are good boys already but it is directly connected to the beginning of giving back more to different older people of their community helping fix homes delivering meals directly on the ground locally meeting people and talking to them about their lives etc. Even the B-boying that was sad to be outdated the moves that they learned are the bases of a lot of their choreo moving forward the elements are used in so many different styles of dances. I just feel weird that Jimins contemporary elements are praised while the B-boy is considered out of date. however, when you dance you build upon old moves and steps just the beginning bounce is a staple in multiple of their choreography from this point forward and in J-hopes freestyling. Even Jay Park(as problematic as he is) started off as a B-boy dancer and he is one of the figures that Kookie looks ups to. The Ms. Iris song lessons directly influenced them. Even the Coolio RIGHTFULLY grilling them about hip-hop history because as much as BTS is down for the culture they are some of the few in Kpop that it wasn't just an aesthetic flare to seem tougher because most Koreans and idols still see black people/culture as violent, aloud and intimidating basically caricatures. While yes most Black rappers may not even know the answers to the questions they are still black and the experience that comes with that is not something that can be critiqued with what about isms. BTS/ Kpop generally doesn't have the pass to use black culture without knowing where it began they're still Korean boys that have only lived in Korea. Every exposure they had before this was from media(where they still actively do black face as a form of comedy, acting out how black women were ghetto with attitudes(-cough-Wendy-cough-), and flippantly using Nigga). And you see everything they learned implemented in the following DarknWild Album and content of that time. Hip-hop Lover was on the album DarknWild! Coolio asking "Do you even know what that means?” is a fair question to ask of k-pop stars, or idols, who often talk the talk without really knowing what they’re talking about. This is not to say they aren’t genuine or talented artists, but the k-pop industry is about selling a package. Idol groups are formed by finding raw talent and the right look that can be preened, polished, and trained to deliver that package. When forming a hip-hop group, it’s not as important to know and respect hip-hop culture as it is to be able to sell it. I will never forget the Summer protests for George Floyd at the height of BLM. I know people love to boast about BTS donating a Milli. however for a long time before that Black Army was just asking if they would talk about it since so many videos came up of South Koreans reacting to his murder. and White Army jumped down our throats calling us entitled and stupid for even thinking that they cared because Korea was such a homogenous culture even going as far and to called us racial slurs (Ironic) and when they did finally talk about it and donated the tuned changed almost instantly from being called an ape to them gushing over how social aware the boys were and how they leaders of their time not 10 seconds ago they were saying Black Army love to make everything about themselves. This ain't BTS's fault at all It was just an encapsulation of how black people in the fandom and Kpop, in general, are loved for the art that nonblack artists are loved and cheered on for being able to replicate but how the bodies of black people can be disposable. It's been so long IDK if you guys have different views now but, I really hope this doesn't come as an attack on you guys or your thoughts because I really love your content and commentary. My bias is all but Keith we have the same bias so that pushes you up some more lol jk!

Me too. I never did finish watching the series after the first episode, but the highlighted version on this is pretty good, so I don't mind that.
