I'm so happy you reacted to this! Part of the reason I joined your Patreon after all. Keep up the great work!

Hiiii just a few things to mention. Firstly, the reason why some peoples faces were blurred is bc they are former members of the group and usually they got into scandals etc. Another thing will be that Hyunjin dropped out of Kingdom bc of a rumor (it got pretty out of hand), you could already see him very little in this episode bc they edited him out as much as possible. The other host Yunho won’t be seen in the rest of Kingdom as well due to some scandal he had going on. Road to Kingdom was for 'less popular' groups to appear on to fight for a spot in Kingdom and like you saw, The Boyz won. Luckily, all the groups did see more popularity after coming out of RTK but especially The Boyz popularity soared hiiiiigh bc all their performances became viral and they’ve set new standards as well. I think that’s it for now, excited for the next one:)

I thought I’d answer a few of the questions you had- BTOB’s Peniel has an autoimmune disease called Alopecia, which makes his hair fall out when he gets stressed, that’s why it is cut short. Recently his hair has grown back a lot though. (Also he and Stray Kids’ Chan are friends from trainee days.) Some of the group members who are blurred or cropped out during the program (ikon’s BI, btob’s Ilhoon, and eventually Stray Kids’ Hyungjin and even TVXQ’s Yunho) is because of the “scandals” they were involved in. It’s common on Korean television to do that. Also, I thought you should know for the next 2 episodes, there was some behind the scenes stuff that was super shitty. What happened was MNET told the three of the groups that they had an unlimited budget for the stages, but told the other three groups they only had five million won to spend on the stages (around 4 thousand usd). MNET claims it was just a ‘communication error’. Nothing was any of the groups fault, they had nothing to do with it, it was just MNET being shady and awful as always. All 6 of the groups ended up suffering because of this. I just thought you should know before you see the stages, because you can definitely tell who got told what. Anyway, thank you so much for your reaction! I loved watching Kingdom for the performances and the interactions between groups I love. Excited for you to see the next episode! 💕

To answer some questions you had during the watch, the blurred out figures are usually members who have since left the group, like iKON's B.I. Hoobaes are indeed younger than sunbaes (which is by date of group debut in this case, regardless of any group member's actual age), and is usually a title referring to completion of a similar program, like anyone who graduated before you at school would be a sunbae for having experienced that first. TVXQ get to refer to everyone as hoobae and less formally, as they debuted in 2003 (!), where BToB was 2012. Worth noting that mathyung that Eunkwang says they are is the oldest, versus maknae, the youngest. Similar to sunbae, but sunbae/hoobae are more professional, where mathyung/maknae are age-driven, generally. It's why Seonghwa and Hong Joong call themselves Matz, from mathyung, eldest [in their group]. I realized in watching Kingdom that I.N is actually the maknae of the entire show. Aww. Glad you enjoyed the show, glad you decided to review it here, and I can't wait to watch your reactions as the show progresses. I'd put off watching it, then binged it all last weekend. It's fun to get to share with someone else who didn't watch it when it first aired, too.

RJ being mad af about the way they did the ranking is a whole freaking mood! I told you I'd be here for this! Just a forward mention for the next episode, a lot of the props ATEEZ used were borrowed/ recycled items! I don't want to say anything more than that though because I don't believe in spoilers. TBH I would never want ATEEZ or Stray Kids to go through this show again because Mnet is doggy doo and I'm still mad about the Hyunjin stuff. I will fight anyone for my babies. Can't wait for the next episode!!!!

So happy for this soooooo happy!

For me it was the budget difference and I felt bad for my babies BtoB! I’m glad it was corrected but should have never happened…

So the rankings will be confusing. They go over them each episode but they don’t include every category each time so it will throw you off. Remember there are 4: Expert, Self evaluation, Views, and Voting. They usually go over Expert and Self eval since those get calculated quickly but the voting doesn’t get added in all the episodes. Tips to understand the rankings: Expert - based on how they rank it seemed like they had a checklist of expectations for each round kinda like a figure skating or gymnastics floor routine, I call it the Kingdom Stage (dancing, stunts, storyline, intensity, and the round’s concept get the most points) Self evaluation - not evaluating themselves actually, each team ranked the other stages in order of what they liked best, the lowest ranked do not get points but it doesn’t mean they were bad just that the other stages were liked more Views - how many views each stage got in about 3 days after being uploaded Voting - each voting account had 3 votes but had to vote for 3 groups (they couldn’t vote 3x for one group) The introduction stages’ ranks were decided solely on votes. The rounds will each have the 4 categories and the points will vary. Though after a while I honestly stopped paying attention to it. M🐍 is known for their evil editing, love for tears, and willingness to create drama for ratings.

Thanks for the explanation! I've seen Kingdom before but didn't know that. Also agree about Mnet. At least the drama in this one isn't too bad. Although some of the camerawork is horrible...

I don't really know about what happened on their end, were they one of the groups that was stiffed? They seemed so sweet and I admired how they tried to make the younger groups feel more comfortable. I also saw Minhyuk react to the ATEEZ Deja Vu MV and I absolutely adored that.

Sha lola

I subs because u react to IKON. You never regret knowing them

The Boyz were fucking legendary on Road To Kingdom and the show as a whole is way more enjoyable than Kingdom. You're probably never gonna watch it because of the length, but i hope one day you react to TBZ's performances at least (and maybe some other groups you enjoy too like ONEUS and Golden Child)

2023-01-31 06:21:02 Mnet is known to not be on good terms with YGE and their groups as a whole. (You will rarely see them invited to certain music shows,, for instance.) Their camera work for a couple groups, especially Icon was pretty bad, until they got called out on it after about the 4th show. Also, the way they edited the performance: a lot of reaction shots from the other groups without jumping back to show us more of the performance, unlike what they did for other groups. To be honest, most of us were not overly surprised, but these sweet, introverted young men really deserved better. On the plus, other groups got a chance to be seen and/or rediscovered: Ateez, BtoB (their artistry & terrific personalities) and SF9, who had gotten a bit lost over the years, were able to get more exposure.
