Goddamnit, I knew that "Dragon Time" comic was cursed. When I was halfway through it LAST year, Lulu.com decided to "overhaul" their website, which resulted in it being completely unusable for several months. Now, when I finally have the comic finished and ready for sale; Lulu has decided to terminate my account.
I've been using them to sell my wares for 15 years, and you have to tag any explicit content. I'm not sure why they've suddenly decided that selling such material through their service is grounds for account termination.
There's no point railing against it. I already have a plan in place: digital content previously distributed via Lulu will all be moved over to Gumroad, who have flat out said they have no problem with such material.
I need to do some background work before that can go ahead, but it shouldn't take long.

This has no effect on content sold directly through Paypal, nor will it impact on content posted here. I'm just providing a heads-up on why you get a 404 message when trying to reach the Lulu site via the Apsara Portfolio.

I don’t care this sudden Puritanical crusade against adult material online by all these websites

ShadyIMG

Ugh. That sucks.

emailed333

For how long must we be denied "Dragon Time"? FOR HOW LONG?!

James Dougell

UGH, that sucks man, I'm sorry to hear. Here's to many more years with less hassle then that, then!

Damien Jacobs

it's a shame, but if lulu wanted to bankrupt that badly, they could've just said so. looks like i'll be moving to gumroad

Anonymous

Damn that really sucks, and I just wanted to throw more money with that comic

aabsurdity

Oh, nice. They've 404'd all of the purchases I've made of your content. Fucking marvellous. I'll see if they're happy to give my money back now that they've taken away the goods I've paid for, shall I?

Kergonan

Does it also mean that if I try to redownload your products I bought on their store, I won't be able to ?

aabsurdity

Seems like it at the moment. I'm putting in a support email to them. There's nothing in their download FAQ about me losing access to an author's works if Lulu no longer has a working arrangement with them...

Otaku Twenty-Four Seven

This sucks but I have used gumroad myself for a while now so at least I won't have to go through an entire rigmarole of account creation and payment details with this. Boo to puritanism

Savage Shark

Wow that sucks. Sorry to hear that, man. At least you have a fallback plan setup, hope it works out for you.

Raogi

I'm wishing you best of luck with future options. Lulu just shoot itself in the foot, if I dare say.

John

One word: China. China has some pretty strong anti-porn regulations and if Lulu want's to play in their sandbox... Well...

Tyr Lyr Byr Fyr Butts

Uhhhh I think this might be more in line with Brexit. There's apparently other digital platforms having issues selling digital wares to UK customers

ScarySerum

Sorry to hear that. On the bright side, it seemed like you were on the outs with Lulu anyway given how badly they've messed things up. Looks like I'll be closing out that account if you're no longer on the platform!

DeDav

Any idea when the store will be back up and selling the Tomes?

nedanecin

That entire company seems to be dead-set on destroying itself. Is the CEO a stack lemmings in a trench coat?

jollyjack

The Tomes and other books WILL return, but through another service. Probably Amazon's Kindle Direct Publishing.

jollyjack

It WAS a useful service. No idea what happened to it, maybe it changed hands, but since 2020 it's just been a mess. Even if my account was reinstated, I think I'd still be moving elsewhere.

Welp, guess I'm just going to have to pay you for all the stuff I bought again. You won't complain too hard about that, right JJ?😜

McClaw

Considering most of it can be downloaded, I suspect not.

Robert Williams

“ This has no effect on content sold directly through Paypal...” say what? How do I do that dude? That’s my favourite way to buy and if I can get your work that way, I’m there 😎

jollyjack

Content that can be purchased via paypal has a "paypal" button next to it on the Apsara Portfolio page. Only certain content is available, due to Paypal's content rules, which is why the bulk of material was sold via Lulu.

SuperCDR

Welp. Good luck on your next path! I know I'll buy your stuff, wherever it's hosted.

Abazaba

Eh it happens, the internet is becoming less wild as more people come into it. Just like the west as more people move the less brothels and saloons more churches and libraries. It will balance out in the long run, with more places like Gumroad springing up to fill the void left by mainstream "clean" culture.

ElCid

Has Gumroad started allowing regular payment through Paypal, or are they still going to demand that I attach my nonexistent credit card to my account first?

Kevin Straker

I was able to use PayPal without a credit card through Gumroad, so it's possible they have allowed it.

Fenris

Your first mistake was making fun silly cartoon smut. If you were making artistic, gritty, realistic, depressing content, in which sex occurs, They'd probably be fine with it.

ZenoCoyote

Fuck censorship

David Rudisill

I am totally on board for releasing them on Gumroad. I already buy from several artists there, and they take PayPal no problem.

ZekeStaright

Luckily, Lulu still has all my old orders, but still, that sucks...

aabsurdity

I sent in a support ticket to Lulu when this happened because I couldn't access any of my previous JJ purchases. They have literally just responded. It's been *three months*. Words fail me.

jollyjack

I'm very sorry about that. I can only assume that they purged all of my content upon termination of the account.

aabsurdity

Oh, no worries. I'm just speechless at a three month turnaround on responding to the inquiry. Whatever kind of company you thought you were joining, back in the day, they must have utterly ruined it. What a shame.
