In 2012, Ryan Nicodemus and I moved from our hometown, Dayton, Ohio, to a cabin in middle-of-nowhere Montana to begin writing our second book, Everything That Remains.

After a couple years of toiling, the result was a heartrending memoir about two corporate guys who got rid of everything to make room for, well, everything that remains. To this day, this book is still my favorite creation from The Minimalists.

Everything That Remains was published on January 1, 2014, and it soon changed everything for The Minimalists: not only did it become our most popular book, but it led to a hundred-city tour, hundreds of media appearances, two TEDx Talks, and a Netflix documentary centered around the book itself—all because hundreds of thousands of people found value in its words.

Since ETR is turning a decade old this month, we decided to publish a 10th anniversary edition with a stunning new cover that features artwork from the talented Mexican artist Gricey.

When designing the new cover, we wanted it to mimic the simplifying process, so we let go of everything superfluous (including the text). What’s left is a beautiful piece of art—and nothing else.

Simplifying can do the same thing to a person’s life: cutting the excess leaves room for the essentials. Ultimately, that’s what this book shows its readers—the outsized benefits of a simpler life.

Grab your copy of Everything That Remains in print, ebook, or audiobook today. Then grab a few more copies for your friends so you can simplify together.

Enjoy!

"ultimately, I want to create more and consume less. doing so requires real work. within." I pinned that quote on my digital vision board (again) for 2024!
