MAXIMS

Clutter is debris in the road, not the destination.

If it feels like a no, let it go!

Consumption is not the problem—consumerism is.

I’ve never regretted letting go, but if I did, I’d let go of the regret.

Even your best self will make mistakes.

Rich people are not immune to the poverty mindset.

The wastefulness of the rich is a luxury the poor cannot afford.

I haven’t finished the pod yet, but wanted to comment on something. At my job we got a new director last year. He knew nothing of how our department worked. He would keep making comments on how calm people seemed and would ask if they needed more work. Basically if you’re not running around on fire you’re not busy. When we all have a full time job and then some because of the cuts and downsizing that has happened.

Wait, I’m a bit confused. Is Burning man still on going? I thought it ended on a bad note two weeks ago

Shawn Mihalik

We record our episodes about three weeks before they're released, so Burning Man was still going on when we recorded this episode..

This is for the Caller Jennifer who asked about the poor people spending on luxury goods. There is a book by Ruby K Payne that goes through this a bit. It’s called A Framework for Understanding Poverty. It was recommended reading from a non profit conference I attended, and it was very eye-opening as to why certain choices are made.
