The colorized version greatly takes away from the wonderfully captured essense of the original and adding color makes it very plastic looking, but what can you do?

The thing with the strings tied on the fingers was an old trick that people used to use to remember something important. It was just a reminder and the thought was that when you saw the string on your finger, you'd think "Wait, why'd I tie that on there?" and then you'd remember why. It works to a degree, but if your memory is truly terrible, you might not remember why you tied it there. Of course, now we've got calendars on our phones and many other ways to remember dates and events.
