I've been getting a lot of comments across multiple different platforms about it being to slow, not enough information, too mysterious etc.

FF.net, royal road and webnovel's reader data does seem to support this. The readership dropped very heavily after ch5, which is when stuff started getting really weird.

I assume you guys like it since you're here, but I want to ask anyways. Were pretty close to tying up arc 1 (the newest chapters, that is), so after I finish that, I want to know if you'd prefer I stick with it or do a different gamer story in DC that's less convoluted.

If you want it, I will 100% continue with this. I'm totally motivated to do so and I don't want to keep starting fics before dropping them. If I do that, I feel like I'm basically just scamming you guys since you're never gonna get the entirety of what you subbed for.

I also have a third option, as you may have seen from the poll. Instead of doing one update every two days for Diabolical, I do a more chill DC story as well, alternating between updates for the two of them. So they'd be getting a chapter every four days.

PS: To reiterate, I'm not getting cold feet. Personally, I like the story. I have a ton of stuff planned for it, but it's slow paced. That's just how it is. There will be a big reveal at the end of the first arc, but it will raise just as many questions. Many of those will probably not be answered, but will have to be figured out on the reader's own.

I really like what you have done so far with diabolical and I feel like you should stick solely with it just so that you don't get burnt out from overwork or the quality drops, but I support what makes you happiest. I think the story is niche and won't be what everyone wants but the slow burn is very suitable for what I've seen of the story so far, it simply doesn't suit an action packed story if you want to keep the mystery which is the core theme and in the end as long as you keep doing chapters the story will finish regardless of filler. In the end I just want to say I subbed for your work not anyone else's so take my words and anyone else's with a pinch of salt cheers.

So my experience with this story is that a bit of the caster l stuff dragged on a bit, but it’s a lot less of an issue as I binge read it. I read chapter 1 and waited till there were a few chapters out to binge it. Even binging it, the story flees a bit drawn out at first, till he starts gaining potentia from food. But that isn’t necessarily a bad thing for the story itself as it sets up the mood well. And I really love that you are showing stuff as they happen rather than tell us they happened. For example we get the dread and eldritch/demonic feeling from reading the chapter in a way that would never have been conveyed if you just said it was haunted. The interaction with the butler really drove that point home. Now let’s address the issue of the dropping of readership. While the pace isn’t bad, the problem is that it’s spread over multiple chapters. Had you made the chapters longer and this 1 chapter would have contained the early sections that feel drawn out it wouldn’t have been as much of an issue. So instead of 7 chapters for exploring the mansion and getting a bit of an intro into the system, it would have flowed much smoother if you had it in 2 chapters with the stuff leading upto finding the book in one chapter and everything leading to meeting Kent Nelson in another chapter. The issue is not that it’s bad, but it’s just not enticing enough for an intro that comes out over 20 days. Specially since the first few chapters are the easiest way to draw in readers. I think the problem is how long it took till the gamer elements were more involved. The 10th chapter on QQ has around 60 likes, which is around 1/4 that of chapter 1. But nothing you can do about that now you missed the early engagement to hold the audience (though the quality is good), so all you can do now is keep a consistent schedule and quality chapters and you will see a gradual increase in readership through recommendations. I personally don’t usually recommend any stories to before 50k words or I have a sold idea where the story is going. That is the consequences of writing a slow burn story, it takes time for the engagement to pickup. But I think it is doing well. Just keep at it and see where it goes. And most importantly, have fun writing it. Edit: If you plan to write another story, I recommend waiting a bit since any audience you draw there would be routed to your other stories if they like them. Well not all traffic. So it’s better to have this story progress a bit more. Just don’t drop your stories. There are authors I love reading their work but I refuse to read their stories any more since they keep making new ones and abandoning old ones or updating them like once’s every few months.
