One thing I've been silently wishing to see emerging from the open-source audio community was an LV2 waveshaper plug-in that I could use to define custom distortion curves. There were bits and pieces of something like that around, but always locked inside of a package, that couldn't be used universally across multiple DAWs. Not any more.

A few months back I was contacted by a stranger, who told me he has made such a plug-in.

That plugin is called Wolf Shaper and was created by Patrick Desaulniers.

Since he has recently published binary packages for Wolf Shaper on the projects Github page, allowing it be easily used without having to build from source - I've decided it's time to finally talk about it, as I've been using it in every single track I've worked on since Patrick showed it to me.

And this video will hopefully introduce this awesome tool to more open-source musicians out there.

Enjoy!

UV#27 Wolf Shaper: introduction - an awesome and free waveshaping plug-in

unfa vlog #27 I'm talking about a pretty new free and open-source plug-in created by Patrick Desaulniers called Wolf Shaper. It's currently available for Linux and Windows. Wolf Shaper is a flexible waveshaper where you can design your own distortion functions. In this video I talk about all the functions of the plug-in, aiding myself with an oscilloscope to better illustrate what is going on. I'm planning for 2 more videos about Wolf Shaper after this one. PS: I've designed the Wolf logo: https://is.gd/2XfMee --- · Links: http://github.com/pdesaulniers/wolf-shaper - Wolf Shaper by Patrick Desaulniers on Github http://github.com/x42/sisco.lv2 - Simple Scope by Robin Gareus on Github http://www.ardour.org/ - official Ardour website, the open-source DAW I'm using in this video --- If you feel thankful and want to support what I do, you can: http://patreon.com/unfa - donate monthly via Patreon and get some extras http://unfa.bandcamp.com - buy my music on Bandcamp http://paypal.me/unfa - donate directly via PayPal --- If you want more of my digital presence, check these places: http://www.facebook.com/unfamusic http://mastodon.social/@unfa https://soundcloud.com/unfa Now go, make some music!
