I've made a track today. I wanted to make a theme song for the upcoming  Ardour Guide video series, but it turned out to be unsuitable...

I started an ominous drum&bass track, with sparse sounds and nice breakbeats. 100% synthesized with ZynAddSubFX in Ardour 5.

I've recorded a very quick video (no editing!) to break the session down for you and highlight what I found interesting i this project. Feel free to download the Ardour 5 session and mess with it.

BTW, good news - If you're using Ubuntu or Linux Mint (or Debian) you can install both Ardour 5 and Zyn-Fusion from KX Studio repositories for free.

Just follow the instructions here:
http://kxstudio.linuxaudio.org/Repositories

And then in your Linux terminal do this:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install zynaddsubfx-git ardour

Enjoy!

Track breakdown: AG Theme (ominous D'n'B WIP) 2018-03-08

Here's quick one for my dear Patreon supporters. I wanted to record the video as fast as possible and upload it while the track is fresh. So I just captured two parts with my OBS Studio setup and concatenated them with ffmpeg. I guess I should have reduced the quality, because the files were huge and the upload took a long time.

Just trying this, and ardour can't find the rubberband pitch-shifter, mverb, or the stereo to mono mixer. Any idea which packages I'd need for those? Which plugin types are you using for those? I *think* I have all of the lv2 versions of those installed.

Anonymous

Ah, looks like you're using the LADSPA version... I don't usually install LADSPA stuff unless there's no LV2 equivalent.

Really odd, it starts of playing ok, but sounds gradually drop out, until by bar 13, nothing is playing at all. This is with the 'AG Theme 07.ardour' version. Any idea why that might be? Can't see anything obvious, like automation..

Strange. I usually try to use LV2 versions whenever possible. Can you export and post an audio file? Also: does the same thing happen with other versions of the session file? Like 'AG Theme 05.ardour' for example?

I think it could be a rouge plugin adding more and more DC offset over time. Then the master limiter would turn everything down to a point of near silence. Could you try adding a "DC offset remover" plugin on the master bus right before the limiter? That should help verify this theory.

It looks like it was because I had JACK running at 44.1khz. Changing it to 48kHz fixed the problem. I guess that's an ardour bug? Can you confirm it locally?

Anonymous

(I tried the offset thing, and the older versions, and they all showed the same problem at 44.1kHz

Great track, too BTW, now that I've heard it properly :)

Asking on IRC, rgareus thinks it's not a Zyn bug.
