kinda reminds me of a bit from the Journeymen project where an AI that was managing a gas mining facility in orbit of like Saturn or Jupiter (was a long time ago) that gave a copy of itself to your character to help you because if it attempted to escape it's fate it'd damage the time stream, but if the copy ride's along it'd have no real impact since it's not the original. Granted it's not the same situation here, but reminded me of those old FMV games. XD
