Hopefully Vowel means I won't have to get a Grendel or an 0-Coast (two desktop units that make throaty vocal-types sounds and have been tempting me for several weeks) (but are too expensive to fully justify).

one thing i heard often but i'm only now thinking about it "pitch CV" means the voltage that should be used for the pulses, as opposed to the "base" voltage which i am assuming is a 0? Mostly because when i hear "CV" i think of "constant voltage" which, however makes little sense for "vowel"/"format" unless it's just the voltage used for other stuff

CV in synthesizer land stands for Control Voltage. It can be a constant/steady voltage, but more often it is a moving/fluctuating signal. There are basically two types: Your generic CV is used to control whatever parameters are available to be controlled (it does not have to be precise though it can be), and Pitch CV which is used to control the frequency of oscillators (in Eurorack systems it is precisely calibrated to 1v per octave.) As the voltage increases, the pitch goes higher. The base value is 0, which would be the "root" note that the oscillator is tuned to before CV is applied.
