Seems like a conflict of interest there. Wadi wants to help Pershesthet, but at the same time is willing to *steal* from who he's suggesting he's trying to protect (I *think* I'm getting that correct)?

He wants to protect Pershesthet by preventing the expedition from finding it. Stealing from expedition members doesn't conflict with this goal - except by undermining their trust so they won't rely on him as a guide, thus reducing his ability to lead them to the wrong place.
