I've just been informed that Patreon is going to be changing the way posts are assigned to reward tiers.  Why, I do not know .. but presumably somebody must have asked for this.

Starting on November 7th, posts will no longer be viewable on a "$X and lower" basis but will instead be viewable only by patrons who are subscribed at the tier to which the post is assigned.  So if you're a $10 Doodle Club subscriber you would only see $10 posts, but not any $5 posts or anything in the lower tiers (except - see below).

I think this change is amazingly stupid.  You guys want to see the lower tier posts, don't you?

The good news is, it looks like I will be able to assign posts to multiple tiers if I want to - so as long as I don't forget to do that, everything should continue to work as normal.   As far as I know, this will not be retroactively applied, but will only affect posts that are made after November 7th.

However there is one catch.

Those of you who are donating but not signed up for a reward WON'T SEE ANYTHING.  Since posts will be specifically assigned to tiers, you have to be subscribed to a reward tier to view them.  (Except, I think there will still be an "all patrons" category, which you will be able to see no matter what tier you're in - including no tier at all.)

Everybody be sure to check your settings sometime in the next two weeks, and make sure you are signed up for something.

OMG! that is like so INCREDIBLY stupid! It`s like theyre trying to drive their customers away

I sent a message to the support desk, voicing my concerns over this change. My whole rewards structure is based on the idea that higher tiers have access to all lower ones. It looks like I can still do that, but it won't be automatic .. so there will inevitably be screw-ups on my part.

Stepping back, it sounds like they’re creating added flexibility for creators – you get to decide how your rewards work – though at the expense of making your life more difficult. They should let you change the default behavior of tier selection – does checking a box automatically check all the higher tier boxes or not. Incidentally, till now I think reward access has been based on pledge amount rather than tier subscription.

Yeah, it's a lot more flexible in allowing me to do something I never would want to do .. I simply don't understand the appeal of "hey, you're paying extra for premium content but it doesn't include any of the lower-priced content." Like who's gonna want that deal?? The default setting made sense; this does not. And yes, reward access has been based solely on pledge amount, but after Nov.7 it will be based on tier subscription.

i've had several artists struggling with a reward based system which allowed them to create SFW stuff and NSFW stuff on the same patreon. I suppose this is for them

tegerio

I guess, but if you do any NSFW at all, then your whole account has to be labeled "ADULT" so it's pretty much impossible to appeal to both audiences, no matter how you try to keep things separate.

Well, to be fair, I should still be able to make my account work the same way it always did - I'll just have to do it manually; it won't be automatic (or maybe it will - I haven't yet seen how the new system is actually going to work). My biggest complaint is that it now requires a tier subscription, which disincentivizes patrons who donate without picking a reward (and yes I have a few of those).

OMGOD!!! Who in GOD'S name ask for this foolish chose to be realise!? HOW!? So do I have to pay for two or more to see the stuff for the cost or something because it sound like I have to if that's the case.

tegerio

It should still work the same way. I will assign each post to all lower tiers. The only difference is, now I will have the ability to totally screw everyone if I choose (or if I forget)
