Update:

Our entire back catalog is now on YouTube!

 From Arnie:

I went to a live taping of Rob Has a Podcast (a reality tv podcast but in this case it was for Survivor) with Brooke Breit, Becca Barish (Forever Girl and Stan Pede on Magic Tavern) and some coworkers. It was a blast watching the Survivor episode live in a giant packed Chicago theater with people hooting and hollering… and then of course the podcast panels were great too. We went to the afterparty a bit and watched current and former Survivor players saunter by. The next day Rob Cesternino and a bunch of recent Survivor players stopped by the Jackbox offices to play on the Jackbox Games twitch stream. I poked my head in briefly to get some pictures and say hi to Rob. (He’s a pic: Arnie Niekamp (@arnieniekamp) • Instagram photos and videos) I’ve been a fan of Rob’s Survivor and Big Brother coverage for years and years.

Had some friends over to watch the Eurovision finals, including Adal and Jemma who were first-timers.

Took the kiddo to see the touring production of Mama Mia which was really fun.

 From Matt:

May 2024

Hope that you all had a restful Memorial Day and are enjoying the beginning of summer. I spent some time with friends enjoying the rain on the porch.

Audio:

Getting back to some audio books. Just downloaded some and plan to dig in this week while I’m working. Learning and working hopefully.

TV/Movies/Web stuff:

Slowly working through Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam still. Wondering if I should also check out the New Translation version. Saw Furiosa with Arnie in IMAX. First Mad Max movie since Beyond Thunderdome in the 80s on HBO at home. Not bad.

Games:

Wasted a lot of time in Genshin Impact. Sort of scratching that BOTW/TOTK itch. It’s weirdly addictive, but the “story” leaves a lot to be desired. And the dialogue/voice acting can be a real slog.

Food:

Had a great night out thanks to Here Here Market, an online marketplace that works with creators in the food industry to create products and experiences. I had ordered some holiday gifts from them (for the Tavern team and friends) and got an invite to a special Chef’s Dinner. Each chef made at least one dish and then we got to take some of the ingredients that they used home with us. Great people, great food. This is not an ad, I just really had a great time. Adal and Arnie, don’t know this yet, but I was trying to see if the next time they host a dinner like this, I could get all of us a seat.

 From Adal:

Here’s what I consumed in May. Let me know if you have any recommendations for me!

  • Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee (I think the album can only be listened to from the youtube video they made: Cindy Lee - Diamond Jubilee (2024) Full Album HQ)

  • Cloud Nothings - Final Summer

  • Why? - Alopecia

  • Bat for Lashes - The Dream of Delphi

Other Stuffs:

  • The big joy of this month was taking a birthday trip to Ireland. We spent almost all of our time exploring the countryside and some of the small gorgeous towns that dot the Wild Atlantic Way. Highlights include Glendalough National Park, Dingle, Clonakilty, the Ring of Kerry, Killorglin (where they’ve crowned a different goat ‘king’ every year for 400 years) and the Cliffs of Moher. HUGE thanks to Jemma who drove the entire trip on 2 ways roads that are barely wide enough for 1.5 horses. If anyone ever wants a recommendation list/itinerary feel free to reach out and I’m happy to send along. After so many car rides I’m now obsessed with the snacks Monster Munch and Banshee Bones.

  • After Ireland we popped over to London to see the new Punchdrunk show Viola’s Room (which was a huge departure from their previous shows but still wonderful). We also saw Cabaret (Taylor Swift was at the performance before ours so we were bummed to miss watching her watch Cara Delivigne) which was meh, Operation Mincemeat again and the new Stranger Things stage play which had some of the most jaw-dropping effects I’ve ever seen.

  • In Chicago we saw and loved the new musical adaptation of Death Becomes Her

  • Continuing with theater in town - Jemma and I were amazed and unnerved by the new Michael Shannon play Turret; which my sister Sadieh, assistant directed. AND Sadieh had a massively successful read through of her play The Cave, which will hopefully be produced soon. I’m very proud of her and everything she’s already accomplished this year.

  • Jemma and I had a blast at Arnie’s Eurovision party and we’re now trying to go back and watch previous competitions. CROWN THE WITCH.

  • The Mavericks are in the NBA Finals which is wild. I’m excited to see Luka continue to cement his legacy.

  • Hey Riddle Riddle has a live show in Chicago July 25h at Lincoln Hall that we’re very excited for. More cities to be announced soon!

  • Some folks were asking for pictures of our recent foster kittens so I posted them in the Discord under the pets-and-animals channel.

  • I had a great time guesting on the Improv Is Dead podcast alongside Erin Keif

  • And also enjoyed hopping on the podcast Burn Before Reading to talk about Microsoft’s Clippy and what a horny lil guy he can be. Yes we do read Clippy smut.

  • Magic Tavern guest & friend Asher Pearlman (Aprel Fuls) has been thriving as a New Yorker cartoonist and now has a book coming out!: https://publishing.andrewsmcmeel.com/book/well-this-is-me/

  • If you have the means I suggest donating to Palestine Children’s Relief Fund

From Tim Sniffen:

Would the newsletter want to promote that I FINALLY started watching Mindhunter on Netflix after 5 years of putting it off? Is that something?
