I was thinking about how one of my childhood dreams was to do art for the old Dungeons and Dragons books, and how disappointed I was that it never worked out. Then it occurred to me that there really wasn't anything stopping me from drawing what I wanted anyway, so I pulled down the old Monster Manual and turned to the first entry...

Actually the 2nd one, but the 1st one with a picture. The 1st entry was the Aerial Servant. :-)

Awesome! Would love a whole MM with your art. :D

It is D+D but for me it is also Barsoom! :)

Nice! That’s why I draw for threshold. So I can get that drawing-for-dnd itch scratched.

Reminds me of the Runequest image...

Yeah, I think mainstream D&D moved on to a new audience, which is cool, but there are still plenty of us old-school dungeon-crawlers out there. 8) I could really see your style fitting in beautifully in one of the old modules or sourcebooks.

Which one? My group never got into Runequest, so I missed most of the art for that one back in the day.

Justin Pfeil

Yeah. That's the root of why I draw all the time. Those old D&D modules.

This is awesome! *Way* back in the day I was the proud owner of the original Greyhawk supplement, yellowing paper cover full of pages folded in half and stapled down the middle, with "Illustrations" by Kevin Siembieda... ...I gotta say, you've got Kevin *beat* six ways to Sunday! :D

I think it was the rulebook cover - a female fighter in the same kind of pose, and a big lizard man grabbing and biting her shield. I remember it because the woman's helmet was the biggest piece of clothing she had on ... 😁
