Here’s the second part of the pebble video that I promised yesterday. You may wonder about how it went from pebble love to pebble trouble. So here’s the story behind it.

The first video was the first thing we did when we arrived at the pebble beach. Ashley was dressed and throwing pebbles in the sea so it was the obvious thing to do - a little instagram safe video, that’s why it‘s in portrait mode.

After that I started shooting stills with my brand new Canon EOS850D- a last minute purchase from Canon UK as my two year old trusted Canon EOS 800D‘s shutter mechanism had outlived its life (it had done more than 100k clicks).  The camera was sent for repair to the Canon store.

To cut a long story short, the brand new camera started malfunctioning once I took a few shots with it at the pebble beach. There was clearly something wrong with the electronics inside. I switched off and on, replaced the battery but the malfunction continued.  So I ended up using the video camera more than initially intended…

The rest, as we say, is history, I bought another Canon 850D the next morning from an electronics store in Paphos, which was absolutely fine (I shot Dina and Anna Venice with it too a few days later in Paris).  The malfunctioning camera went back to Canon for a refund and I bought a brand new full frame Canon EOS 6D Mark II soon after than.  I now have two spare cameras, one of which is always with me, just in case.

ps: in case you’re wondering why I stick to Canon, I have over the years invested heavily in EOS lenses and it will cost a huge amount of money to switch to anything else. Plus I’m used to them and they’re normally very reliable. I  like to think that what happened at the pebble beach was a very rare fluc.
