Eternals 2021 FULL REACTION

Comments

Mitch

Brilliant timing. This is the first one I haven't seen yet

Sersei is played by Gemma Chan, who also played Minn-Erva in Captain Marvel

Jeff1990

Only watched this once cause I wasn't a fan of it but will watch again now with you two. The cast choices for this movie were fantastic, just didn't enjoy the story.

Taryn Clay

Excited to see and hear your reaction to this. Marvel is heading down a new path and we are all on this ride together now. I just say I really appreciate how dedicated you both are to bringing us consistently honest reactions. You both seem so down to earth and cool, which is all we want. Thanks both of you! Much Love

Anonymous

Also, Kumail Nanjiani didn't play Dopinder, that was Karan Soni. Probably best to leave any references to that out of the YouTube release.

Mecoy Carmine

i have work tomorrow but im gonna stay up, eat wingstop, and watch this whole movie right now !!!!

Now you know why Connie was not in multiple episodes for Season 10 of The Walking Dead! She was off filming this movie! I'm so pleased that you liked this movie, as it was pretty panned when it came out. Yes, the plotting & pacing are messy, but direction and cinematography were awesome. Chloe Zhao shot most of this on location and spent $$$ on supplemental FX. I'm sure the events here will have a huge impact on the MCU going forward, what with the universe-shattering (literally!) stakes that is Arishem and the Celestials. I also love the movie because it features a lot of cultures, languages, locations, eras, and types of people (race, age, size, ability, mental wellbeing) to show the depth & breadth of humanity. There is also a motif of evolution to show that, like Sersi, we can grow beyond our prescribed purpose -- we're worthy beyond our utility. here's mention of Star Wars and DC characters because Dir. Chloe Zhao was inspired by Snyder's films + it proves how much we've integrated and adopted superhero mythology into our present day, real world just as the Eternals affected their world: Thena = Athena; Gilgamesh = Mesopotamian mythology; Druig = Druig in Celtic culture; Makkari = Mercury; Ikaris = Icarus; Sersi = Circe; Phastos = Hephaestus; Sprite = fairylike storyteller in Greek mythology; Ajak = Ajax; Kingo = Kingu.

Chloe Arabella

great movie also the voice at the end is the voice of the actor playing Blade

Cliff

I love this movie! Great reaction! I hope they announce a sequel soon

Snax

Interesting tid bits: - Knowhere is the head of a dead Celestial - Ego was a Celestial (little g) - Thanos is the child of an Eternal, which in turn passed on to him Deviant genes. Thanos is an Eternal-Deviant warlord, The Mad Titan. I'm interested to see how they're going to incorporate Eros in future movies. Had no idea who Harry Styles was before he was in this movie. Yes, I lived under a rock.

Cynthia RG

The voice at the end is that of Mahershala Ali who was casted to play Blade in the future so far this is the only content we’ve gotten of him

Milen Mladenov

I'm happy that you like it... was a bit scared that you won't, it is a good movie overall (but not liked by most of the Marvel fanbase). However i do believe it's a great introduction of characters and a good way to set-up what i think will be the next phase in the Marvel universe in general. Have fun with Hawkeye. It's an amazing one and you will love the hell out of it :)

FedeM

I am adoring the mcu after endgame. Although I think most people are just being put off by the lack of familiarity to this next phase of the franchise

Marisol Ferreira

I don't think anyone else commented about this, but Kit Harrington is supposed to be The Black Knight, still unclear if he comes back, since the Blade movie is also in troubled waters at this moment. Was very intrigued too about what would become of the character, alas, no news about it yet.

Klaas Jan Runia

Did you recognise Gemma Chan in her role as the Chinese pottery expert Soo Lin Yao at the National Antiquities Museum, who went into hiding for the Chinese criminal organisation Black Lotus, in the Sherlock episode 'The Blind Banker'? :-) Anyway, I loved this film. I loved the production design, the design of the creatures, and the lore of how the Eternals were intertwined with, or rather, formed the basis for all of the legends on Earth.

Amber B.

I haven't started the video just yet but I can't wait to see your reaction to some familiar faces 😀

roncelune

The only MCU movie limited by the fact that he is in the MCU. They could have done so much more but I still love it. And I don't know whose idea it was to have both Richard Madden and Kit Harrington in love with a character called Sersei but it's brillant 😂

Deathhead

As far as i've seen, people don't like this because they say it has too many characters and it's hard to follow, and because it has new characters, also they say it has no stakes. In my opinion it's a good movie, same as Shang-chi, and it has stakes, i mean there is a planet sized god that wants to judge Earth now and you get to see the origin of the universe and part of the history of this version of Earth. I'm glad you enjoy it.

Alyssa Dyson

Gilgamesh was the guy from Train to Busan 💜

Amber B.

It was really nice to see a positive reaction to this movie. I can genuinely say that this rewatch with yall is the most I've ever enjoyed it. I adore Druig and Mekkari and I'm excited to have Kit Harrington in the MCU. Oh, and we have two Dakotas and two Carolinas in the US - North & South Dakota and North & South Carolina. Hope the December poll isn't too much trouble for you to sort - can't wait to see what we're watching next ❤️

Michael Celia

Yeah, the casting in this film is fantastic. The casting department is often credited as being the true superheros in the MCU, most notably Sarah Halley Finn who cast nearly all of the movies going back to Iron Man. Oh, and there are only two Dakotas, North and South lol

sierra's reaction corner

The casting here is just insane. This movie was hit or miss for a lot of people unfortunately, as was a lot of movies post-Endgame. I blame a combination of the lack of familiarity with the characters as another comment said, the beginnings of superhero fatigue and just a general sense of people comparing everything to Endgame and what came before and not thinking these movies and shows hold up. But I truly think people judge Phase 4 and 5 too harshly. It's essentially a fresh start with a new vision, even as it holds onto some past characters and stories. I REALLY enjoyed this movie! The characters are so cool and interesting. And it introduces so many new concepts and sets up new storylines to unfold and it's just overrall incredibly entertaining and exciting for me. Gilgamesh WAS the guy from Train to Busan btw (Ma Dongseok, he's a huge Korean actor)! And Kingo's actor (Kumail Nanjiani - he's a stand up comedian and in a great romcom called "The Lovebirds") was NOT Dopinder from Deadpool lol but I knew you guys would get a kick out of seeing Jon Snow and Robb Stark again and having a character named Sersi. And seeing Connie! Also Idk if you knew this, but Barry Keoghan (Druig) was the voice of the faceless Joker from the end of The Batman (2022) who was speaking with The Riddler. Just a lot of familiar faces. And of course Harry Styles at the end (who I enjoy musically, but acting wise...well we'll see!) I think the biggest problem with this movie is that it has to introduce us to such a large ensemble, let us get to know them, make us care about them and also resolve the plot all at once. While I think the movie was great and did the best it could, I think it would have been AWESOME if we got a mini series with at least an episode for each Eternal individually. Maybe seeing them in their present day lives, giving us hints to what they are, maybe showing scenes and flashbacks of their interactions with each other to slowly build to this movie where they could dive even deeper. Otherwise, the Eternals have some of my favorite power sets. Namely, Makkari and Druig. Makkari's super speed is probably the best I've seen formatted on the big screen. I hate when movies constantly slow time to show super speed. I love the references to Ikaris's Superman resemblance (I think he literally was Marvel's attempt at Superman in the comics), Kingo was hilarious, Phastos, Thena and Gilgamesh were very loveable and I didn't care for Sprite or Sersi, but I loved the dynamic they all had as well. Super excited for Kit Harington as Dane Whitman (I'm just always happy to see him in something that's not Game of Thrones)! That voice is important and I can't wait for you guys to find out and for it to pay off.

This is one of the most hated Marvel films, I'm glad you guys liked it! There are definitely MCU movies that I dislike, but I think Eternals is very thought-provoking. In a lot of ways, more mature than the rest and no where near the worst of them. Super messy and trying to do way too much at once, but I thought about it for days after watching. I can't say the same about something like Black Widow.

Michael Celia

As far as I'm concerned, it seems those people either weren't paying attention or had no intention of liking the movie in the first place.

Count Monte-Cristo

Thank you for this great reaction. I love this movie and how it represents God, Angels, and Devils. Anyone who knows a little bit about Christianity understands that Devils are Angels who went against God's will, and Angels are beings overpowered but without free choice; therefore, they cannot be changed. And subtle touches about the Eternals' impact on history and cultures, like Sprite's stories and Thena - goddess of war. And that theory, that aliens helped humanity to develop. I admit the storytelling is a bit complicated, hence some hate and harsh judgment. And, of course, there's the LGBTQ+ aspect that some people dislike for various reasons. Personally, I have seen this movie many times, and each time, I find something new that fascinates me as a history and religion lover. Thank you for the great journey. Looking forward to more to come.

Count Monte-Cristo

I think, in the hands of writer Nic Pizzolatto and director Yann Demange, that movie is in safe hands.

CheshireKat528

I love Trin made the connection that Arisham planted seeds across the galaxy/universe like Ego. Good stuff.

Also to have Ramin Djawadi score the movie. He scored all of GOT.

Strav 23

Poor Rob he once confused Ken Watanabe and Chow Yun-fat (Batman/Pirates). 🤣

PsYcHoKiLLa

Sersi is Gemma Chan, she was in an absolutely excellent Sci-Fi series called "Humans" on Channel 4. Dakota is 2 states, North and South.

Rafikki

Underrated movie. Hawkeye is going to be great

Johann Miranda V.

Rob, for many fans the MCU died with End Game, then came mediocre series and movies of which only Loki and Galaxy 3 stand out until today.

Anonymous

This is a pretty focalized opinion, there's some good & bad. That's the baseline.

Anonymous

Btw, fun fan speculation is that Phastos' bracelets look an awful lot like Shang chi's rings. The timeline tracks, because Wen Wu had those rings for centuries and never aged, just like the Eternals. Also, this is not cannon, but Phastos' actor thinks that his character inspired all the advanced technology in Wakanda. :)

James

It’s cool to see some characters with new powers and it’s cool to see Connie as always

Thadman

When they mentioned the Dakotas, I was trying to think if we have East and West states and the only one I could think of quickly was West Virginia.

Thadman

Saw this movie twice in the theater. I think it's vastly underrated. It confused me how people were complaining about Marvel movies being the same and cookie-cutter before this movie came out (which I disagreed with anyway), but then they try something very different and people complained about it because it was unfamiliar and difficult to follow because it didn't seem connected to the rest of the MCU. There's just no pleasing some people, I guess. I really liked it and liked it more on subsequent viewings. It's filmed gorgeously and is very thoughtful. I WANT to see very different things in the MCU. Even if I don't care for the finished product as much as many of the others, like Captain Marvel, I can understand what they were trying to do with telling an origin story in the different way. I just feel the way they did it made it hard for the audience, who isn't invested in the character already, to connect with her when we were finding out who she is at the same time she is. Still like the movie and like it more, also, on subsequent viewings. I appreciate them trying new things, but it can be detrimental to their bottom line, which will impact the creation of projects in the future and we know how studios prioritize that over creativity and storytelling.

Thadman

Not sure if they'll do the same thing in the MCU, but I know in the comics, Eternals are eternal because they don't get sick or grow old, but they can be killed BUT they reincarnate. I guess, kinda like a Cylon. Usually they don't remember who they are in the beginning and have to live a while and eventually something jogs their memories. So, I feel we probably will see Ajak again. And Gilgamesh and Ikaris.

Thadman

I like how Rob said at the end, "It's not Excalibur," 'cause when Thena was holding the sword on the Domo, Sprite said, "Is that the Ebony Blade?" and she corrects her with Excalibur. So THAT was the Ebony Blade at the end. It's cursed, part of his family heritage and the curse is why he was weighing whether he should open it, let alone touch it. I never read any of the comics with his character, so I don't know a lot of exact details of him or the blade itself, but the inscription eludes to him eventually wishing to die because Death is his reward. I THINK that while he's in possession of it, the curse makes it so he can't die. I know you may think, "That's not so bad," but I'm pretty sure that the longer he has it and the more he uses it, the more blood thirsty he gets. His uncle, whom Sersi told him to contact to make amends, was the previous Black Knight (owner of the Ebony Blade) and I'd guess they were estranged 'cause it turned him into an unpleasant person to be around, to say the least. I know there've been numerous Black Knights throughout history and eventually, they tend to turn into villains because of the curse. I don't think Dane Whitman has become a villain in the comics yet. If that's the case, I'm not sure how he manages it.

Amber B.

I honestly forgot we had a Viriginia and West Virginia. I'm from the South East🤦🏻‍♀️I swear I'm smart 😂

Thurrak

Hey guys just some context for the post credit scene without any major spoilers... Yes this scene references the comics so people who are familiar were freaking out.. also the voice you heard was Mahershala Ali who had been cast as a particular character for an upcoming project. If you want it spoiled you can look up who he plays. So this links Dane to an entirely new world that Marvel is going to go into. Hope that helps!

DracoMint

Some hates everything now no matter what, some hates diversity (hence things like review bombings without even having seen the movie/shows), some are only looking for Infinity War and Endgame level movies and some are only looking for overarching plots that lead to the future big events. It's also suffering from no fandom for these characters, Eternals and Shang-Chi had no fans and so they also had no hype.

Wendy Sparks

A week late, but I really enjoyed this as my 2nd watch of Eternals. It suffers from a lot of story to tell - so the pacing isn't the best. It feels both too long and not in-depth enough at the same time. But I still like it, especially the 2nd half. The cast is its strength. Particularly: Angelina Jolie, Barry Keoghan (Druig), Lauren Ridloff (Makkari), Ma Dong-seok (Gilgamesh), Harish Patel (Karun), and Brian Tyree Henry (Phastos). As others, I'm sure, have pointed out: that is not Dopinder from Deadpool. Kingo is played by Kumail Nanjiani. Who is in lots of things, but got a lot of recognition for his movie, The Big Sick - based on his relationship with his wife. Really good movie. I don't think he actually looks that much like Karan Soni (Dopinder). But both are comedians.
