Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 2001 FULL REACTION

Comments

Steven Schmaling

I was thinking about the wizard chess scene today

Max

Finished a late night assignment. It's 4am. Can't sleep. So, sod it. Gonna make some buttered toast and watch this.

Jessi

Sometimes, there's just nothing that hits better than a bit of bread and butter.

Max

Also I know this is just from the intro, but to clarify, the 'Sorcerer's Stone' is the American title, the 'Philosopher's Stone' is the British (and tbh any non-American) title. I think the reason why there's a 4 minute difference is, in the US, the framerate is different compared to UK media. But it's the only movie/book with a different title based on the US, and there's no extended scenes or anything so no need to worry about those. Correction: turns out there are indeed extended scenes so I stand corrected. oops xD

Alyssa Dyson

Yaaayyy HP journey 💜

Shelley

'Yer a wizard Harry' ♥︎

Issie Taylor

The rumour is they renamed it in the US because Americans didnt know what a Philosopher is. idk bout that. I'm in Australia and it was Philosophers for us!

Issie Taylor

and yay im so happy you're watching this. I got drunk and tattooed his glasses onto my foot when i was 18 im a huge potter gal

Papi Dillion

before the 2nd one, if you havent recorded it yet, you both should take the house quiz and see what house you guys end up in. it would be a fun little intro or even outro. food for thought. love you guys :)

Anika

I sent you a message starting in July 2nd about the links for the quizzes. Please check out those messages.

Ben

Love you Rob and Trin, so excited for this series

Anika

Also back in the day people of all ages loved Harry Potter. My dad was a big fan too. He read the books even before I got to the end of them. The difference between The Philosopher's Stone and Sorcerer's stone was the marketing of US (Sorcerer's Stone) vs the UK (Philosopher's Stone).

Shelley

Just a quick FYI, the shops down diagon alley are actually based on the shops around the cafe she would visit and finish writing her book in Edinburghs old town after fleeing DV with her daughter, the buildings are old and some where built as early as 1600s and before, if you walk round those parts of the town in late autumn/winter it feels like such a Harry Potter world. I love telling people I live near diagon alley 😅

Chael

What Ron sees in the mirror seems superficial but it’s actually representative of the great motivation of his life which is to be recognized & stand out on his own- often in the books he feels like he fades into the background amongst his older brothers who are all making their marks in the Wizarding world like their father, he isn’t book smart like Hermione nor automatically famous like Harry.

Max

Just finished. Really glad you enjoyed it. There's so much I want to say but because you're really early, I'm not allowed to say a lot of it. All I can say is I think you're really going to like them more every time you go into the next one. You also asked a few questions during the watch that no one is allowed to answer as well, but I hope you feel satiafied by the end. Keep at it! I'm definitely looking forward to more. Also I hope to god you manage to avoid the spoilers because this movie series has been out for a while, so seeing it through fresh eyes is *chefs kiss*. The actor you were familiar with who gave Harry his wand was John Hurt btw.

Ali Ünalan

Fun fact actually Professor McGonagall's actress Maggie Smith is mother of Captain Flint's actor Toby Stephens

Count Monte-Cristo

It's Philosopher's stone. End of story 😄

Melissa Williams

They have a Harry Potter world at mgm studios theme parks in Orlando Florida. They have Diagonal Alley in one park and Hogsmeade village in the other. You can go between the two parks on the Hogwarts Express. I haven’t been myself but I wish I could.

Kaylee Smeaton

I knew you'd love it! A little lore for you, each house represents certain traits and the sorting hat detects the strongest ones in a person. Your choice does count too. Gryffindor = courage, loyalty, a certain disregard for the rules to name a few. Founder = Godric Gryffindor Slytherin = cunning, ambition, and another disregard for the rules. Founder = Salazar Slytherin Huge rivalry between Gryffindor and Slytherin due to the house founders history. Hufflepuff = friendship, hard working, reliability Founder = Helga Hufflepuff Ravenclaw = cleverness, wit (cant remember other ones). Founder = Rowena Ravenclaw Gryffindor animal is the lion. Slytherin the snake, Hufflepuff the badger and Ravenclaw the raven/crow Gryiffindor colours are red/gold, Slytherin green/silver, Hufflepuff brown and yellow, Ravenclaw is blue and... white I think or black. Reason Hagrid is so big is because he is half-giant. There's loads of video games based on Harry Potter. Please, please, please do the rest. They get better and better I assure you. The later ones are a bit darker, but so good.

ROMAN.W

Still working ?

Max

To be fair, just because it's not part of the main plot doesn't mean it's not spoilery, because there's still lots about the lore and universe they haven't learrned yet, so I'd say it's too early for them to go in to that yet.

roncelune

Here in France the movie was called "Harry Potter à l'école des sorciers" which literally means "Harry Potter at the wizard school". I don't know why we always do random traductions of movie titles, like "The Hangover" movies are called "Very Bad Trip" here, or they translated "Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse" into "Spider-Man: New Generations", like what's the point of doing that, France ! 😂

CheshireKat528

Looking forward to revisiting Hogwarts with you guys!

Chrissy

YEES this was great! Couldn't click on this fast enough! I'm so dang excited for you to go through the rest of these!! There's a lot I want to say as well, but don't want to give away spoilers, and I hope you're able to go through this without any spoilers, so I'll have to save it for later. I think you'll love it more and more as it goes on. BTW, people do actually play quidditch. Different colleges sometimes have teams. Obviously, minus the flying lol! But I hear people still have so much fun with it. This world just makes me feel so cozy and at home. They did a great job at making you feel the wonder of magic as you would when a kid. Can't wait for the next Harry Potter!

Susan Sitzmann

I'm not sure if it has been said yet, but the 1st two movies are wonderful but are more kid friendly. Movie 3 and on really amp up as the kids get older. I really hope you guys love these movies. Now to go and watch..

Shabaqo

Thanks so much for picking these films

Foof

Great reaction you're going to love the HP movies they just keep getting better and better. You may want to consider having a moderator for the comments to avoid spoilers, mainly for youtube 😀. Regarding moving stairs and other difficult stuff you may question hogwart has, *some* of it is intentionally done to challenge the students. For a muggle kid yes it would be ridiculous, for witches/wizard kids in the magical world not so much 😉. *** to also add everything in the wizarding world is not technologically advanced as the muggle world because they have magic for everything lol. Whereas muggles don't so have had the need to improve etc. There were previously different ways to go to hogwarts, trains were decided upon if i remember correctly because other options like 'apparating' caused alot of accidents. Also it's tradition that for their first time, the 1st years arrive on boat when they leave the train. The other usual way you'll see in the movies.

Bri Gioia

Couldn’t help but be teary eyed the whole time watching this with you both. This series is very special to me and can’t wait to go on this journey with you! Get ready for the ride!

Schaumkus

First time im having audio issues with a reaction. Towards the end, starting with the fluffy scene, all lound scenes really hurt my ears when watching with a headset. Something went wrong there with the recording i believe. Loved the reaction nonetheless.

sierra's reaction corner

Love rewatching Harry Potter, it's always a great time! I think you asked in the beginning, but Hogwarts is in Scotland, while Diagon Alley is in London. That scene of the kids on the boat seeing Hogwarts for the first time never fails to make me smile, it's amazing. Only the first years have to take the boats, after that the students just take carriages up to the castle from Hogsmeade. I'm so glad you're gonna watch the next ones, this is a really magical (ha) series and it's so fun to experience the full story. And watching the kids grow up right before your eyes. By the end it's off by a few years, but for the most part the main actors (Daniel, Rupert and Emma) are aligned with their characters ages and you can see their growth physically, but also as actors and it's awesome. The movies also gradually go through a metamorphosis of going from pure, whimsical, fantasy fun for children to a complex, full story that edges on the darker side and it's all very compelling.

Bblack 118

Loved opening and seeing you watched this. Hope you continue! They are all great movies.

PsYcHoKiLLa

John Hurt played Olivander, the Wand Merchant. If you've seen Alien you'll recognise him for one memorable scene.

lelmDR.WHO

I need that Steve Carell meme of "oh my god! it's here! it's happening!!"

MaggieS61

Was gonna say the same thing. I think a lot of people stop watching after the first or second film because they think they’re all just kids’ films. I felt the same way. But, I’m so glad I kept going. It’s great how the movies evolve as the characters age and the story progresses.

23p23 41

U r totally right Rob. I remember watching this movie as a kid in cinema...not sure if it was straight on release because i was only 6 years old but i remember being in cinema and it was incredible. For us kids back then it was like today's VR experience😂😂u instantly got sucked into the movie all-in. Its still amazing to rewatch even now in my age 29 but as a kid it was like escape from reality. Take me back please😂🥺

Joe

Just another reminder that Maggie Smith (Prof McGonagall) is Captain Flint's mum.

Charlie West

I can't WAIT to see your reactions as the movies go on! Also you can buy bertie bott's every flavored beans and they really do taste as they are described.

Megan Burland

lets gooooooo prolly the closest franchise to my heart excited to take the journey with you guys!

Joe

Haha, you think Harry looks like a young 11 year old? He definitely doesn't look younger than 11. Take a look at your old school pictures.

Take a Ticket

fair point but I was getting served in pubs at 16 with my friends haha, it can be a variable for sure.

Joe

I think blowing up in a car crash is usually relegated to Hollywood. Explosions are very, very rare, and definitely wouldn't obliterate the occupants ;)

Maggie Barbour

I love the progression of darkness as these films go along. They really kick off in movie 3

Joe

That be true. Were you one of those guys who had a full beard at 16?

Nathan Hill

The movies start to really get more serious and dark around the third one. That’s coincidentally my favorite one. I guess you could say that the movies get darker as Harry gets older

Simon Williams

Pleeeeease continue this series asap!

Max

I know people mean well and all but it’s a bit spoilery to start going into how the movies change as it goes on. Honestly better for them to experience it for themselves and catch onto the themes without expectations being set.

Dave Lemmens

Just an FYI, the next one does have an after credit scene

Anonymous

The Hogwarts Legacy game is awesome! Bein able to explore Hogwarts and the ground around it is literally a Harry Potter fans dream come true lol but definitely watch the movies first before playing!

connie

I'm so happy to see you guys react to these movies, you're going to love them I know it. 💗

Gilstead

This was so much fun! Excited for the rest of the movies.

Keith Duperreault

I think I'm the only one on the planet who doesn't love these movies.... I never understood the fanaticism over them. I'm sure the books were ok, but I've never been much for teen fiction and though I have sat through all the movies... one viewing was enough for me. I just don't get it.

Kale

I think a lot of the fanaticism comes from the generation that started reading them as kids, and the entire series ended when they were entering early adulthood. Therefore the nostalgia factor is extremely high for those individuals. That, and a lot of the visual effects were pretty groundbreaking at the time.

Victoria Davis

I was 10 when the first book came out, and that is probably around the age for one to really get immersed into the whole harry potter universe. Growing up with the characters as they do was a real gift.

Max

A couple of things that are important to remember. There’s people who are fanatically in love with it and people who don’t like them, and many people will fall in between like me. They’re not cinematic masterpieces for me personally, but it is iconic and when you experience growing up with the movies and ageing with the characters, you get an attachment to them. It’s perfectly valid to say it’s not for you! ^^

Foof

I can only speak from personal experience but the books are amazing. When they came out in the UK we found that the young AND old were enjoying reading them. It got a lot of people picking up the books to read at a time when it was difficult to encourage kids to do so what with tenchonlogical advances in gaming etc. The books like the movies grow darker as the main protagonists age. Its a book that can be read by children and adults alike and still prove entertaining which i think made it so groundbreaking at the time. My whole family would be reading them. I remember seeing mum staying up all night to read the 7th book. As most books/films it's a great form of escapsim. When the movies were coming out it brought more attention to the books and more fans. All in all the films were actually done pretty well and the graphics for the time were great and still uphold to an extent for today. Like so many I feel like I grew up with the characters/actors as I was of a similar age when the movies came out

Connor Ellis

The reason there are two different titles isn't to differentiate between theatrical and extended. They changed the title to Sorcerer's Stone for the US, both the book and the film, because they thought it would be simpler for the American audience to understand.

⚜️ Rob: "Has it got violence in it? No? I'm not interested." Everyone else: 👀🤭

If You guys enjoyed this you would probably love The Magicians

Julia Ashley

When Rob's eyebrows went up and Trin exclaimed a bit at Dumbledore putting out the lights at Privet drive, I knew this reaction was going to be fun. lol

Anonymous

So funny that I never knew that until I read your comment and immediately went to watch it. Thats hilarious, I've been watching these movies for 20 years and had NO idea

Thadman

You mention about the bias of Professor McGonagall to house Gryffindor but that's because she's like the faculty housemother for that house. Snape is the one for Slytherin and I don't remember the others, but they are basically repping the houses they were in when they were there. That's why she had an eye out for Harry to be the seeker 'cause she's like, "Ooh, he seems to be a talented member of our house! Put him on the team!" and sort of "benefacted" the Nimbus 2000 to him, even though he could've bought one on his own. It was a last minute thing, putting him on the team, so there's no way he thought about it. It's also why she has a soft-spot for the three amigos when they get into trouble and looks very disappointed when they do, but she does seem to be fair when doling out reprimands or punishment. She does take points of and doesn't let them get a pass. When teachers seem to favor certain houses, you can bet they were part of that house when they went there.

Thadman

Also, Daniel Radcliffe is a short guy, so like me, when I was younger, no one believed I was the age I was. When I was going to get a driver's license at 16, people didn't believe it and kept thinking I was 12. Ha! I'm about 5'7" as an adult, but when I got my license, my height on it said 4'8", so yeah, I was very small at 16.

Anna Möllervärn

As a Potterhead I’m in heaven now! Please please please react to all of them!

Man I'm glad y'all didn't see this movie now it's about time you see this movie it's great I'm glad you're going to watch the whole series trust me it gets better especially my personal favorite the fourth one.

Robin and Trin I love your reaction to this movie it brought so much memories Harry Potter is like a mystery of magic and adventure you guys going to love the other movie 🍿🎥

Alyssa F

I'm so excited for you guys to watch these!! It was a key part of my childhood, and the franchise had such a big impact overall. Also, I love the fact that Rob was pointing one some of the heavy biases, because daaaamn is there a massive pro-Gryffindor bias at Hogwarts ahaha. I could rant for hours over the messed up dynamics of the house system.

Fun Facts About Each Harry Potter Movie: In the Philosophers Stone the last scene in this movie was shot first. Daniel Radcliffe (Harry) was supposed to have green eyes as per the books but was allergic to the contacts he had to wear, so they didn't use them. However, in the last scene of this movie you can see them and it is the only time that Harry has green eyes throughout the film as it was the first scene filmed!

Anonymous

So excited for this series, its definitely my second favorite movie series, and lots of fun! (Lord of the Rings does beat it for me, though)

Charlotte

Went to the cinema to watch this when i was 10, i went for my 11th birthday, then every year after we saw the next films, i literally grew up with the characters and it was amazing. Loved the franchise ever since. Proud Hufflepuff right here! Loved your reaction! Was nice to watch it again with you both :) Hope you do the Pottermore quiz to get sorted into your Hogwarts house, need to know where you'd be sorted! Also, of the actors, the one person that never outgrew Potter was Tom Felton who is Draco Malfoy, his posts are brilliant and the cast interactions even 20 years on just proves how well they all got on making these films together :)

Geniousatqw

Oh PLEASE!!! Napolean Dynamite is the most stupid idiotic ignorant movie EVER!!!@!!!~

Miroslav Blabla

That was great! I saw few scenes I never knew were there :) Guess these 4 minutes were worth it! :)

Mariya Rosa

Hi! Just wanna ask when is the possible upload of your reaction to the 2nd Harry Potter movie? Can't wait to watch it with u! 😍

Anonymous

Fun Fact: Harry didn't cast a single spell in this film. 😝

Michelle Leach

Whens next Harry Potter?:)

Hazel Angus

Professor Sprout was Head of Hufflepuff House, I know that! Hufflepuff is roughly associated with the Earth element, hence why it made sense for the Head of that House to be a professor of Herbology. Professor Flitwick, the Charms professor, was Head of Ravenclaw.

Deathhead

There is a theory(which has a lot of merit) that Dumbledore planned for Harry to find out and investigate the Sorcerer/Philosophers stone and confront Voldemort, that's why he sent the Cloak, that's why he told Hagrid a lot of things, because he knew he would spill the beans. In essence in the movies Dumbledore tries to prepare Harry for what is to come, to a certain point at least, also that explains why they went to the forbidden forest and how that centaur came to help, also if you pay attention, Dumbledore seems to know a lot, even the fact that Harry came again to see the mirror, which was there only long enough for him to learn about it. Also the tests were just hard enough to be a bit of a chalange for 3 first year students
