I've never seen this movie before. Don't know why exactly, because I love Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Alan Rickman, and Sci-Fi. I guess it might be because I don't usually like spoofs. But this was a fantastic movie. Surprisingly entertaining, and a great story. Loved it. Can't wait for Harry Potter. And I love the Hanover series.

One of my favourite movies but I'm a Trekkie, the cast of Star Trek like this too. There was a great documentary "Never Surrender: A Galaxy Quest Documentary (2019)" where they revealed that they were actually planning a limited series but sadly we lost Alan Rickman and they didn't want to do it without him. So funny how this was a random for you but my wife and I have seen it so many times we sleep with it on in the background. So glad you enjoyed it. Looking foreword to Falcon and the Winter Soldier but especially Loki to follow. Byyeeeee.

Rumor has it that this was initially penned as a Star Trek movie, but none of the original cast would sign on to it so changes were made. It still has so much rooted in Trek, you don't even have to squint to see the similarities. It still winds up on top Star Trek movie lists, even though it is not part of the universe, higher rated than some of the actual sequels.

There’s supposedly still one in development. I know Paul Scheer was attached to write it at one point, but I’m not convinced it’ll ever actually happen.

If you ever re-watch the movie, it might help inform what Tony Shaloub's character is doing knowing that he said he was playing him as if he was high all the time.

Yeah it was originally going to be R, I believe, but they cut it down to make it more "family friendly." You can see the dubbing, too. I think it works way better as an adult's movie.

"She looks good as a blonde." Sigourney loved it, too. I've read the oral history of the making of this movie multiple times (it's a highly entertaining article and I'd recommend tracking it down, any fans of the movie who never have), and she said she used to take her fake/push up boobs and blonde wig and just wear them around outside of the set because she wanted to see what it felt like to be a buxom blonde in the real world. One place where the dubbing is blatant is when Jason and Gwen are trying to get to the Omega 13 and they come across the chompers, and Gwen says “Well screw that!” You can clearly see that Sigourney said “fuck” and not “screw.”

The polls are ultimately fair and democratic but it's nice having the picks as well to even out the winners and sometimes find the gems. I'm glad you two seemed to enjoy it, I saw rob's teary eyes the same time I got mine! I recommend throwing My Cousin Vinny back into the mix someday when it fits the theme, that's another one I truly believe you two will love, and Rob would definitely have a crush on Marisei Tomei in that one.

Great reactions, Trin and Rob! Many people have shied away from the movie because they didn't like "Star Trek" or never watched it so they thought they wouldn't "get it". And while it does add some nuances to the movie if you've seen the TV shows and movies, it's really not necessary. I look at it as more a movie about the fans and fan conventions. After all, aren't the Thermians just super fans that have taken it to the top level? Also, some viewers may be put off thinking the movie's a spoof (like "Spaceballs"), but I think it's more an homage than a spoof. I think that's one reason why it comes off so well. The producers / actors / writers / director aren't intentionally trying to get a cheap laugh by making fun of a specific aspect of "Star Trek" (i.e. in "Spaceballs", a spoof of mainly "Star Wars", the hair buns Princess Vespa wears are actually headphones). The script for "Galaxy Quest" flows like it's its own standalone movie. Did you catch when Sarris is shooting everyone on the Protector 2 that the only person who ISN'T SHOT is Guy?
