TWD S9E01 A New Beginning FULL REACTION

Bye Gregory, you won’t be missed 😂

The time jump is approximately 18 since the end of “All Out War.” As the war began in s8, Maggie references seeing it through to her 2nd trimester, which begins around the 13th wk or pregnancy. So in the time off between seasons, baby Hershel is born and with the start of s9 he’s approximately 9-11 mo of age. The new intro, I thought for sure you guys would catch it. For the 1st seasons, the title sequence with the words “The Walking Dead” decayed a little more as each season came. But with s9, it’s green and lush signifying a whole new beginning. This reaction was a great start to s9! Can’t wait for ep2, 3, 4,5 well, you get the picture. My excitement is building for what I’m sure will be a most entertaining experience for you both. PS can Trin teach us the French word for “weasel”? When she called Gregory that I about fell over laughing! And Rob, you’re right! The beard is the newest male look. I think it makes the male characters mute rugged and yet still adorable! Beards make me look sexy!

Season 9 is great! Don't worry.

As always, I really enjoyed your commentary on this episode. I agree with both sides, for sure all of the communities and lesser main characters are more connected and working together more than in prior seasons, but the main core characters of Rick,Michonne, Daryl, Carol, Maggie, etc are clearly so far apart and disconnected. And that’s the whole reason behind Rick’s hope for the bridge and his hope to keep Carl’s vision alive. I like that they didn’t immediately portray Maggie and her supportive characters as immediately plotting against Rick because it would be so far fetched and out of character. There’s a lot of politics in these interactions and the way Rick and Maggie differ in terms of how they should treat the Saviors is very interesting to see. Roy in Hell Gregory you will not be missed. This season might be one of my favorites, if not my #1 and I really hope you guys see it as much of an upgrade as a lot of us fans did.

I love season 8 9 and 10 I can't wait for two more weeks and also this is a great season opening 9 is amazing 🤩 I love Gregory but when he tried to kill Maggie that's when I lost all respect for him he was a funny character in season 8 but in season 9 Man he became a demon 👿😈 can't wait for you guys to see the rest of the season I am so hyped

I’ve never heard anyone loving Gregory it made me smile and wince at the same time lol

Trin, "Oh, I thought she was going to kiss him. I was going to slap her." I know the feeling. I know it well. LOL! I enjoyed Gregory as a character, but he really did need to go. He backstabbed anyone at a drop of a hat, and he couldn't be trusted. When I first watched this season, it felt like we were getting to know the characters, again, because of the time-jump. They brought Ezekiel with Carol, but they also refreshed Daryl & Carol's relationship, it seemed. They delved into Richonne's relationship, as well. And we got to see Ann, Cindy, Laura and some others that we were unsure of, on our side now. Angela Kang brought back TWD for me, that I really didn't think I was waiting for, until it happened. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did, and still do.

Seasons 9-11 were different as we had a new Show Runner, Angela Kang, who wrote many of the episodes starting in Season 2 I believe. She wasn't the main writer, The Walking Dead, up through Season 8 had around 5 writers that "worked for AMC" proper, but the fans who stuck it out after 7x01 knew if we saw Angela Kang or Greg Nicotero (who was also in charge of the SFX Makeup) we knew we were in for a banger episode. Steve M Gimple was the main Show Runner from seasons 4-8 and the episodes he wrote weren't awful, but he did write a lot of season 8 episodes which wasn't his best work. When Angela Kang took over her unique and creative writing process gave a much needed booster shot. Get ready for a great ride to the finish line!

G.C

The reason it feels different is cause they made it more movie like, they shoot it just like they would a movie, not a tv show anymore for the last few seasons

Brad Tyler

Here we go, my favourite Walking Dead era. I’m very excited for what’s to come. I’ve never heard anyone hate on season 9, it’s a fantastic season (probably my personal favourite). Can’t wait to re-watch with you.

Brad Tyler

Also, the reason it feels like a bit of a reset is that it kinda is. A new show runner, Angela Kang, took over for season 9 onwards and did a sort of soft reboot. The show feels like it returns to its roots somewhat, while still progressing. I just love it!

Reverend Jim Jones

Season 9 might be my favorite season. There's a couple moments I'm excited for. Keep watching. It's CRAZY.

Decx

Oh yeah best season of walking dead is here!!

I want to say anywhere from 1 - 2 years has passed since the end of the last season, probably closer to a year and a half. Season 9 is one of my favorites, probably top 3, mainly because it is such a change from past walking dead seasons to present ones. Its interesting to see actual civilizations being built up rather than typical just on the road surviving. Its the way forward in an apocalyptic world and I'd say this season shows that progression really well.

Oh man, I typed out this huge comment and I must've not hit post...damn it! Okay, I'm gonna try to shorten this up some...yes, Judith has aged. There's been a year and a half time jump. Gabriel did in fact, lose sight in one of his eyes...we knew in season 8 that there was irreparable damage to one or both eyes, but thankfully, his other eye is just fine. And finally, regarding Maggie, Daryl and Rick, there was never going to be a war between them...they are family. Basically, what it boils down to, Maggie wants Negan dead and Rick doesn't. That's it. I hope you guys enjoy the season. I know I'm in the minority here, but season 9 is my least favorite. I can't really get into why, but for now I'll just try and enjoy it a little more watching with you guys 😄

Love Season 9! Makes a great change after the last 2 seasons of the war:) You’re going to love it too!

Ser

I love this season. I think it will feel jarring at moments considering you’re coming right off of a season where the entire 16 episodes were in a week’s timeframe. This season’s pace is quicker and I think it was better for the people who had to wait months to watch it this time around

Count Monte-Cristo

Noo! Gregory! 😭 How could cold blooded tyrants treat you like that 😭 You will not be forgoten 🖕

k4rizz4

I love that actor, though. He played a weasel very well. I'll always remember him as John Connor's foster father in T2, though lol

k4rizz4

A few of the episodes they made during covid are a bit wonky, but the season overall is one of the best.

Ser

To me two of them are really boring but I enjoyed the rest, I honestly don’t think about them when including this season in my ranking but the finale is amazing

Simone

I disagree with Gregory's death. No one has the right to decide who lives or who dies. What Maggie did makes her equal to him: a killer. The death penalty (which still exists in the US) is an aberration, an abominable thing

Ser

actually I forgot those episodes were S10 actually so I really love S9 as a whole

Ae Jae Meade

I'm sure it's been answered but season 9 has an 18 month time jump

TheGrouch74

Serious question here patreon people?, how many comments have been made about the actual episode we've watched here (like were supposed to) and how many are just people setting expectations up talking about how great or how bad this is etc etc basically going down spoiler avenue, just because you feel the need to lol Try being mindful that Rob and Trin want to know nothing about it until they experience it for themselves please

Blizard

And everything was lovely once again

Annie Bonz

Gregory had a lot of chances to change and he didn't. In that world, he did deserve to die in my opinion. He had no regard for Maggie or the baby. I believe in the death penalty. And I don't believe people should sit on death row for years able to play ping pong, watch movies, tv, see their families, write, call, and even get married. When the people they killed don't have that chance. Of course, there are certain circumstances that should be considered, and guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. Or a confession. I understand and respect anyone against the death penalty .... I get it, I do. But being heartbroken and missing someone while the person that took them still breathes air, makes it hit different.

very off topic but it would be so awesome for you guys to react to the harry potter series. Im hoping you guys haven't already seen it but it is likely you have.

TuiLa4

Oh I would love this too! Still got fingers crossed for those LOTR behind the scenes one day too XD

Anonymous

The death penalty is not an abominable thing...the things people do to get the death penalty are what's abominable. If someone kills children, you think they deserve to breathe? Of course not.

Simone

no one has the right to decide who lives or who dies. if you commit a crime you go to prison. That's why the USA is a retrograde country and there is no rational argument that can justify the action of killing someone
