Yeah the other companies that have done game adaptations recently (or book adaptations even) should be embarrassed at how well HBO has done with 'The Last Of Us'. It's possible to do a faithful scene by scene translation, and even add extra content, without overwriting or straight out ignoring the lore.

I think all changes to the game so far have been ideal and justified. There probably won't be any spores but I completely understand and agree with that decision. Having spores realistically would mean our main characters would need to wear bulky masks half the time and Pedro isn't here to re-do the Mandalorian :)) Also, I believe they said that they wanted to have the show even more grounded in (a possible) reality, and with spores there would be no way of any humans left alive after 20 years. We have to also remember that all these changes have been made with the blessing of Neil Druckmann, the creator of the game, who also is a co-writer and co-creator of the HBO series now. He even directed this episode.

As much as I don't mind children carrying guns in an apocalypse setting, I don't blame Joel for not giving one to Ellie. He (we) don't know if she knows how to handle one. RIP Tess. She was awesome! This was a great episode. The clickers were terrifying!

I’m really curious on how people who never played the game feel about this. I’m very glad they kept all the key points in the game, that’s really all that matters! Sounds like we get to see Bill &’ Frank. I’m dying to know how this goes next week.

I am really enjoying this show so far. I have never played the games, so I find it very interesting how it is compares. The look of this show is beautiful. All the detail put into the overgrowth looks so convincing. It's like the environment is a character on its own. I'm really loving Ellie. Some of the interactions between her and Joel crack me up. I am looking forward to watching their relationship grow as the story progresses. The last thing I want to say is that scene in episode 1 when Joel's daughter dies hit really hard. I was crying for characters that I had only met minutes before. That's good storytelling if you can get me that quickly. I have been watching these when they first come out and then rewatching with your reactions for more insights. Thank you for being careful about spoilers. Love your content Rob and Trin!

Jimmy Macram is a reactor that hasn't played the game but is doing the series. I follow him on Patreon (admittedly not as much of a fan as I am of Rob & Trin but..) he's a entertaining reactor who has a ton of shows in his library. Idk if he's posted LOU on YT yet but he's worth a watch 😉
