You were not too far off about the basic premise & vibe of the anime. The story centers around the MC, Akame. She’s part of a group of assassins who are on the most wanted list by a corrupt, oppressive, imperial regime. The ending was controversial in that the anime (released in 2014) strayed from the source material because the manga was not finished. Similar to what happened to the OG Full Metal Alchemist.
