Spice and Wolf is one of the most beautiful Light Novels I have ever read. The main plot itself is nothing groundbreaking, but it's the way the story pulls you in and makes you grow attached to the characters thanks to their daily interactions that stands out. Without giving much away (since this is said right at the beginning), the female character is a wolf, and, as you guessed, the genre is romance slice-of-life with lots of economy thrown in it. It's a shame that the anime is a mess in terms of adaptation of the LN. A new anime reboot has been announced for 2024 though, which hopefully will fix most of the original's flaws; if time (and interest) allows you might wanna pick it up as a weekly one when it drops.
