I have already watched this movie multiple times but I can’t wait to watch it with you!

Anonymous

On the train for the next 9 hours so this has come perfectly!!😍 Wuhuuuuu

Trisha Renee

Ugh I’m supposed to be working not rewatching Red, White and Royal Blue with you. Too bad! 🍿🥤

Crystal Pritchard

Why did this have to come out during a work meeting!?!! Longest hour waiting EVER!! But thank you in advance!!!

Molly Reddy

YAYYYY!!! i can’t even count how many times i’ve rewatched this movie and i can’t wait to rewatch it again with you both!!! ♥️

Chris Metzger

I'm sooooo excited to watch your reaction!!!

Ess Kay

omg!! I have been desperately waiting for this post. I have already watched the movie 8 times now lol but I get to watch it thru you guys’ point of view now so EXCITED!!

Anonymous

You guys are the best--thank you for this!

Logan de Hoyos

The book is actually Soo good. They cut a lot of stuff when they adapted it into a movie and changed some characters and removed ones as well. I'd definitely recommend reading it when you all get a chance.

Ale DL

Dead, excited, screaming, crying. You two just make my day sunnier. Thank you for this. ✨

Anonymous

hope you enjoyed it. The movie was cut down by Amazon and was originally meant to be 3Hrs+ long.

miriam kupfer

OMMMGGGGGG so excittteeeeed

Anonymous

Omg!! It’s finally here!!!

MrsSandyG

I definitely recomend reading the book as well 💕 It's even steamier than the movie 😄

Silme Elen

Ooo thanks guys :) love you ♥️

Ali Laura

Yay! Awesome! That's my evening sorted, whilst digital drawing. ☺️ Also recommend the book! 😀🏳️‍🌈

Diane Furlong

Awww this going to be fun. I’m leaving for work now but I know what I’ll be doing this evening after dinner. Thanks Josh and Alex!

Mads

the book is so easy to read, it reads like fanfiction wattpad vibes so its not a masterpiece lol. It reads like it was made to be a corny cheesy fun movie so take that for what it is.

Sunil

The book's not bad - the story's more complex and the characters are deeper. And there's a fair amount of smut. It's hardly challenging literature but not everything needs to be. It is what it is.

LM-Entertainment Australia

about to watch this and so excited to see your reaction!! the book is EXCELLENT and you may have heard that the movie isnt so good? the book has a massive fan base who LOVE it. it's got a heap more detail in it than the movie (a lot has been cut to make it fit into the timeframe). definitely recommend reading the book, it is incredible.

Dionne Lakey

Only about 25 minutes in - umm Alex thinks he's straight at the beginning of this - I don't think it's made clear in the movie that this is actually his own coming out story - he's oblivious to being bisexual until Henry. SImilar to Nick and Charlie's story in that sense.

Sophie

I‘m gonna watch it as soon as I‘m back at home. But already gave a like because I just know I‘m gonna love and enjoy this reaction ☺️🤭🫶🏻

Dionne Lakey

Lol the turkeys are in Alex's room in the Whitehouse, not a hotel, he's trying to save money - Alex is in his last year of Uni that's why he's studying and in lectures- I knew this film should have been made into a series, so many things are easy to miss. I think everyone should read the books after to get a fuller idea about what they just watched! On the way out of the private viewing in London we were handed a voucher for a free credit to the audiobook on audible- I think all Amazon subscribers should get a similar voucher code are the end of the movie!

Jennifer Fell

I am SCREAMING "THE PRINCE ISNT OUT AND ALEX IS STILL WORKING OUT HES BI" AT THE PHONE GUYS 😂😂😂

Dionne Lakey

I agree this movie is like a play - even the dialogue has the same delivery for me. The director is a great theatre director and I think he just went with what he knew for his first film.

Anonymous

also can confirm that the emails are in the book as actual emails

D.A. Rowley

I loved the movie (watched so far 7 times), yes the book and movie differ but what book to movie doesn't. I am just happy about the positive representation. I am a 70 year old lesbian who thinks this was a long time coming and the movie does justice to the book and to our story. Perhaps those who are poo-pooing the book or movie have no idea what it was like growing up when I did and had no role models to look and cling to. I'm just saying be thankful that we can now show bright, romantic, and loving LGBTQ relationships. We are family! Thank you guys for a fun and entertaining review of the movie. Also wanted to add: Nicholas Galitzine (was in Purple Hearts), plays Prince Henry, Taylor Zakhar Perez (was in Kissing Booth) plays Alex Claremont Diaz, Rachel Hilson (was in Love Victor) plays Nora Holleran. Sarah Shahi (was in Original L Word (gf to Shane), plays Zahra Bankston and the scene with Ellen and Zahra writing the concession speech, the woman who was on her lap top in the same room was none other than Casey McQuiston the author of the book and one of the screenwriters for the movie!

L Archibald

I’ve been laughing so hard!

Rachael H

The book is better, this is like a loooooose adaptation. But as just a movie, it’s so cute and I love it. (But read the book lol)

Jennifer Fell

In the book Henry is basically Alex's bisexual awakening... as a bi person the way that part is written rang a LOT of bells and was a joy to read... I was disappointed that wasn't in the film as much as we need more bi rep...

Ethan Murphy

Nah the book is absolutely incredible! I read it after watching the film and I can't stop reading it its just too good :)

Dionne Lakey

Henry IS as conflicted about his identity as Wilhelm in Young Royals - it's why he's so uptight initially and Alex thinks his entitled and smug - he's always wearing a mask. I wish the movie had time for this nuance. They're talking about making a sequel and I'm just internally screaming - you should have made a part 1 and a part 2 movie! BUT at least we got this movie so the next time a similar queer story is green lit it gets more screen time.

Jennifer Fell

I've just laughed so loudly at the bit after Your reaction the their first "intimacy"... I am unable to wait for PARIS. 🥵🥵🥵🥵🥵

Dionne Lakey

There are more lgbtq+ peeps: Nora's bisexual in the books and used to date Alex so she's able to help Alex with coming to terms with it; and Amy his Secret Service security is trans (played by a trans actress which is great) but not shown in the movie. Of course both the king and Prince Philip are played by gay actors too so I do love all the rep.

Silme Elen

Ok, you mised some things... When Henry told his full name to Alex, Alex said that he thougt that Alexander Gabriel Claremont Diaz was mouthfull. And Henry said: "He is" ;)

Crystal Pritchard

No they missed one of the best lines in the movie!! You really needed subtitles on. The line “ and I thought Alexander Gabriel Claremont-Diaz was a mouthful” and then Prince Henry “he is 😉”.

Crystal Pritchard

So apparently they took that part out of the movie because they aged the characters up, from early 20s to late 20s, so they wanted Alex to already kind of know about his attraction to men. They also wanted to add weight to the love, this isn’t a young fling, this is them finding their first real love. So Alex isn’t confused about being into guys, more about his attraction to Henry.

Dennis Verner

Guys, I love you and I love your reactions but you insist on talking over some of the best lines! Henry and Alex are talking about their names. After Henry tells Alex his full name, Alex says he thought Alexander Clairmont-Diaz was a mouthful and Henry says, "He is!" Now that was worth commenting!

L Archibald

I’m very sad that after Alex saying he thought Alexander Gabriel Claremont Diaz was a mouthful, Henry says, “He is.”

Anonymous

I wanted to watch your whole reaction video before commenting because I was eager to see your reaction to the movie. You guys did not disappoint, entertaining as always. I love how offended you guys were on Henry's behalf when Zahra caught them in the room and how she spoke to them. I live for gay-themed literature -- YA, contemporary, mystery, romance...anything gay-themed and my eyes are on it. RWRB never hit for me, didn't like it at all. Well, there is one bit I liked but I'll get to that. I was eager to see if the movie would be better and it was entertaining but not something I'd probably watch again. I'm thankful for the movie though because it laid to rest something I'd been wrestling with, do I want one of my favorite gay-themed novels, Song of Achilles, made into a movie or limited series? After seeing this adaptation I am a firm no on a film, still open to a limited series. The thing that helped me make up my mind is how they ripped the one thing I enjoyed from the book completely from the movie, the continuous discussions about famous gay love/people in history. The fact that they dropped it from the movie made the "When they write the history of my life, I want it to include you" less meaningful. SOA would be destroyed if it was made into a film. I think the adaptation of RWRB would have benefited from being made into a limited series rather than a film. But, in a world where Young Royals, something so perfect, already exists is there really a need? The actors in the movie (leads and supporting) all did really well. Although the leads look way older than anything I pictured in my mind when I read the book. In the end though I'm glad it was made. LGBT+ media should be celebrated even if it isn't enjoyed by all, it is important that it is out there.

Dionne Lakey

The stakes are high for Alex too - his Texan mother is running for re-election and him being out as bisexual would not go down well with conservative US voters. Especially her own home state that he wants to flip Blue. He also has to hide who he is.

Rachael

i was screaming every time you called Henry 'Harry' PLSSS hahaha loved this reaction though. Nicholas and Taylor were so brilliant in these roles.

Jennifer Fell

Ahhh OK... I get it. I know a LOT of people are harassing amazon for the 3hr edit too....

Dionne Lakey

I love that you're calling Henry, Harry because that's Prince Harry's real name

Anonymous

I was waiting to see their reaction to that line and then they talked over it! LOL

Dionne Lakey

You were right Alex about the metaphor about idealism and realism!

Literally Natalie

I am literally two minutes in and you guys are the CUTEST!!!! xxxxoooo Can't wait to watch!!! xx Also, cuss as much as you want! Love it!! :)

xbujorx

lol at first glance i legit read get your poppers...............................

Anonymous

The book was good but loved the film. what's not to like with the two lead hunks

Michelle Hopkins

Actually frightened the dog I was screaming so loudly Henry every bloody time you called him Harry 😆

Michelle Hopkins

Ok you guys need to rewatch the Paris cafe scene - you missed the best line ‘he is’ ❤️. And it’s Henry not harry 🎂🎂 - but thanks for your service 💚🐸. And read the book the email love letters are special

Michelle Hopkins

And watch the extra bit at the very end ❤️

Anonymous

Your sentiment that the US almost seems to be held up higher than Britain in the story, I can see. Believe me when I say, in the book, there were actions by American forces that were far worse than anything the British monarchy did (within the confines of book). I would recommend giving it a read as there is a lot more information regarding all of the characters that was not able to be pulled into the movie. Plus let's just say that that carriage house scene brings out something in Alex in the book. 🥵

Chris Metzger

Okay, I had to stop while watching to let you lads know that you just missed one of the hottest lines in the entire movie. When they were in the Parisian cafe talking about their names, please go back and rewatch. Don't speak through it this time, Josh! lol I would have killed to see your reaction to that!!

astoryworthtelling

Surely "I'll break the sound barrier for you" is the best line!

Anonymous

Honestly, the book is amazing. One of my favourites! I think the book is better, personally, but this is a fantastic adaptation. Nick (Henry) and Taylor (Alex) were PERFECT!

Anonymous

Nope Alex is not out

Anonymous

In the book, Alex doesn't quite realize he's bisexual until he realizes he's attracted to Henry. He's just sort of ignored the signs and the attractions over the years. There is quite the bisexual awakening in his character in the book. Henry is just a closeted gay.

Anonymous

I truly enjoyed your reactions! I laughed so hard and it was emotional too. Thanks for the good time <3

Anonymous

The book is fantastic and much more layered than the movie. The movie is fluff, which is fun, but the book has more about queer history and more representation overall of the LGBTQIA+ community

Dennis Verner

Note: there is a little scene tag after the credits.

Dionne Lakey

STEPHEN!!! Twice you've done that now - love you guys

Justin Kayser

I lived for Alex getting so flustered that he had to get a clack fan that said “Fuck off Karen!” To cool off 😂🤣 I loved that!

LM-Entertainment Australia

AWESOME REACTION as always! you're always so entertaining and insightful also. i'd watched this movie a couple of times (once on my own and a couple of reactions) and i thought that the movie was amateurish. i thought the acting wasnt great and it was cheesy.. but you changed all that. you immersed yourselves in it and i found a new appreciation for it. one thing you talked briefly about is that you wonder how the emails / texts are in the books. its one of the best parts of the book in that the emails are detailed and well-written and focus a lot on LGBTQIA+ historical figures and moments. it's definitely worth reading the book (and im not a reader). it has a lot more backstory and is just overall amazing. thanks once again!

Steffi K.

You guys are the best. This made my day. Thank you. ❤️😘

Dionne Lakey

So glad you guys had fun watching this! You were so entertaining throughout. Really glad you watched it before reading the book

Anonymous

Im only 30 secs in 😂 and book is so much better. Historical gay letters and some spicy scenes- more than in movie! I love the book and I feel it is a very well loved book

Dionne Lakey

Good point about seeing yourself represented at the visually most powerful positions in the world and feeling confident because of it. That is exactly the reason we all love this story

Anonymous

Half way through, but you two have talked through many of the jokes. I need a second reaction video!

Dennis Verner

Yes, LM, while I enjoyed the film I agree with your initial assessment. But, like you, I enjoyed it so much more with Josh and Alex. After so many decades of hetro rom-coms some gay ones are long over due. For all of it's good points, this one is a little Hollywood cheesy at times.

Anonymous

I think the reason the representation in this movie is so amazing is because the author of the book and also the director of the movie are part of the LGBTQIA+ community. They know how important it is to get it right. I honestly like the book better, but the movie is growing on me. 😊

Crystal Pritchard

I mean if you’re going for romantic lines, then yes, but Henry telling Alex that he’s a mouthful is the best line, just in a different way 😂

Rosie Dickinson

This was the bit i missed the most. I wanted that realisation and the back story not just the kinda half assed oh well yea I have been with guys before that we got. I really wanted the call with Liam and the full conversation with Nora. I like the movie more now that I have watched with two people who didn't read the book. I think that as an adaption it is not great but as a fluffy rom com it works much better.

Bookshelfaffair

Love to see the journey of watching this story, starting the movie like “oh this is just silly”, to “ok they are actually some interesting (and steamy) points here”, to “I just love them” 🤣.

Suze

I’m only 41 and I completely feel you. It was getting better when I was young but nothing like it is now, and honestly I think I enjoy it so much because I’m feeding it to my younger self.

Anonymous

One other observation - 7 minutes into the video and the boys have already been insulted by the way Alex addressed Henry in the greeting line, sat on a sofa, binned a biscuit behind said sofa and Alex's concern about using the wrong fork. This is the most toffee-nosed RWRB reaction video and I am here for it.

Suze

Yes! I love the queer history that’s represented.

Suze

When you asked who was going to be playing the king I got so excited waiting for you to see him 😂

Crystal Pritchard

I adored this reaction almost as much as I love the movie, thank you!!! Also, Alex your joke about whether Henry douched beforehand was actually apparently something the director discussed. They really wanted to focus on proper representation, so while they don’t mention any of the “preparation” in that scene, afterwards when they are in bed, you can see the condom wrapper on one side and Henry’s famous travel size lube is on the side table on the other side. There’s a really good article in Variety Magazine where the director breaks down his thought process on filming the whole movie. Though it may contain book spoilers if you are planning on reading it.

Laura Ibarra

LOL I was thinking the same! Unfortunately for me, I have 4 short meetings that I’m leading 😜 that will be eating into my watching time! Why do we have to work?!

Anonymous

Hi guys, So a I would like to add some things to what everyone else is talking about, The Biggest thing is the swim platform conversation and Henry's reaction, honestly it looked more like a huge panic attack rather than him putting on his prince face, he started to rub his solar plexus then the look of near terror on his face just as Alex started to tell him he loved him, then the bed scene right after, Henry looked absolutely traumatized. The scene after the red room was even more funny as they are walking around the corner Alex asks Henry how he is doing and Henry responds with it's like stonehenge then the remark of your royal hardness gets played.

Trisha Renee

Seriously! I still haven’t gotten a chance to start watching yet because it’s been a busy day. What the heck, don’t people know I have better things to do??

Steve Marshall

Just started watching. The Book is great. Better than great. And the audiobook is such a treat too!

Mads

Now that I've finished watching you watch it... I died at the hour mark where Alex lost his shit and went to retrieve his fan. I'm actually going to hard disagree with a lot of these comments about Alexs bisexuality and his coming to terms with his bisexuality. Yes, in the book, Henry makes him realize his bi, I suppose. He does admit to Nora though that he HAS been with his college roommate and hooked up a few times, so hes not completely unaware of his tendencies. When I read the book, based on Alexs personality, I also thought it was already an out bisexual and when him and Nora talk, I was shocked he was coming to the conclusion that he's bi, even after he tells her he's been with a guy before. I prefer the movie's spin, he's a bit older and more aware of himself. I seem to be alone in that opinion.

Anonymous

Oh ya, loved your guys reactions to the sex scenes, looks on your faces and just overall reactions were just top notch comedy to match the movie. Thanks it made my day.

Dan Dolan

Great reaction you guys! I really liked the movie but I will say I'll agree with others and say that the book is even better!

Literally Natalie

This. Was. Everything! LOOOOVED it!! I laughed SOOOOO hard!!!! You guys were hilarious!! The fan had me in stitches!

CC

Always love the conversations you two have, especially about these social/political themes - it’s a very nuanced topic. The last scene in henry’s bedroom made me tear up too, “trading one prison for another” sadly is a sentence with a lot of truth to it. Highly recommend the book by the way

Anonymous

Also Im laughing so hard Im crying at your reactions! Im with you though they are both very attractive men and Taylor 🥵

Steven Harper

The book is good! I mean it’s a romance novel so it’s as good as any romance novel, but yes it’s good lol

Anonymous

Thank you for this holesome reaction I had a really bad day and this just made my day again. Love every bit of the movie and what topics you discussed.

Dionne Lakey

I think I just enjoyed his overall obliviousness as a character trait when he is so obviously smart. He's oblivious about his own sexuality, about Nora and June's 'sleepovers', about Henry being gay (to the point Henry calls him thick before he kisses him for the first time). I found it funny

Mads

Yeah I believe in the book, when he tells Nora he's been with a guy, he says something like 'idk i never thought about it much' like hes too busy to worry about his sexuality, (orr...oblivious to it?lol) which okay fine I get that honestly, it's easy to put some stuff on the shelf when its not a priority, but, I thought the movie gave me what I preferred: A guy somewhat aware of himself, but not concerned until he's met someone he actually LIKES.

Anonymous

This made me laugh so hard. You guys are an absolute delight and never fail to put a smile on my face. If you can read the book, I highly recommend it!

pawntksqueen

(The “branded” hat is for University of Texas; their mascot is the Longhorn. Being from Texas, I got a bit homesick for Austin.) Definitely read the book! Folks in the discord convinced me and I adored it. The emails were my favorite part of the book for sure. Seeing so much positive bi rep had been incredible lately, though Alex’s bi panic in the book is more fleshed out. And can I just say, the moment the fan came out was the EXACT moment in this movie where I screamed, causing my poor dogs to look for danger 😂. Great reaction! I laughed a lot…and loudly…here in an airport lol

Anonymous

I was waiting for y’all’s reaction to Stephen Fry, did not disappoint. Crying with laughter throughout much of this!

Anonymous

I really shouldn't have watched this while working because I was laughing way too much. This was so much fun to watch

Gavin Best

Alex said “My NDA is bigger than yours”… not… d!ck…

Graham & Ruth May

Really enjoyed Alex in particular having the hots for and having to fan himself over Taylor (Alex) 😍 What a great reaction, guys. As usual, a wonderful mix of hysterical laughter, jokes, serious points about representation and heartfelt emotions. If you thought that the key speeches in the film said all the right things, you should definitely read the book, which is also full of all the right things, but goes into far more detailed exploration of Alex’s journey in particular. Obviously, the film was subject to restrictions and censorship issues; the intimate scenes in the book are much more full on and equally as beautiful. There is much more backstory and several key characters who don’t appear in the film or whose roles have been altered. I enjoyed this film but I absolutely loved the book.

Rosielauren xo

I love this film/book!!! In a couple of interviews: The director made comments saying both the book and film are so similar and feel the same but at the same time also feel very different which is apparently what he and the author both wanted! Fans of the book to love it and new people to love the story. It’s just not possible to fit this much information into a film and he said anything that doesn’t “serve” Henry and Alex love story, doesn’t belong in the film. Which is also why he removed scenes/characters. And also why he blended characters/scenes. The editing of some of the scenes are so good!! He hired actors older so he didn’t want it to be about him figuring out he’s bi. He already kinda knows he’s attracted to men but it’s his attraction to Henry is what turns the “light” on in his brain and works it out. Which is why he says to nora “he can get his head around liking guys. Its the fact it’s Henry that he can’t get his head around”! And it’s fast pace but from the interviews in London to new years is like at least 2/3 months. But they haven’t got that luxury in a film. But with the time they had. They did it so well. And it was so amazing to see these 2 characters that so many people love come to life xx

Anonymous

Alex. Your hilarious break down at 59.00 had me laughing until I cried. Both of your reactions are priceless.

Gavin Best

I’m surprised that the Spanish subtitles didn’t pop up for you while Miguel was flirting with Alex, like they did for us watching it on Prime. Miguel was saying how mesmerising Alex’s eyelashes are.

Griffin

Of the many changes from the book (all understandable for time, but you do lose a lot of complexity in the characters, everyone is a lot less “perfect”)…. the only one I’m really sad about is that 90% of their conversations were actually through email so you really don’t see how invasive the leak was and you miss out on most of Henry’s writing- which was beautiful or dirty or both depending on the conversation.

Griffin

The one thing I wish they’d kept was the discussion of “how their history will be told” was in those emails that leaked, so in support of them after they were outed, people made “History, huh?” t- shirts and signs in the protests/demonstrations all over the UK

Gavin Best

Alex ISN’T in a hotel… he’s in his own bedroom in the White House. They put the turkey 🦃 in his bedroom after Alex complained about the waste of public money 💰 putting it up in a hotel (You can bet the-turkey-in-Alex’s-bedroom was Zahra’s idea) 😈💡

Adrienne Gosselin

Not sure if you noticed as you probably don't watch a ton of American news, but as a lover of politics and the news I personally LOVED that Rachel Maddow and Joy Reid played themselves!!!

MrsSandyG

Yeah, so.. after watching this, I can say - definitely read the book. And then watch the movie again. Book would answer a lot of your questions and clarify a lot of uncertainties. It's a lot deeper. But really easy to read. Like, I keep re-reading the time period from new years to the red room meet-up, the mental state that Alex get's into is so much more intense than in the movie. It's my favourite part of the book

Anonymous

I enjoyed this movie way more watching you all react to it. You had me dying of laughter😂🤣

Gavin Best

It’s not Harry… it’s Henry. It’s not a gay party… it’s a party 🎉 for the young, rich & high-profile celebs who said yes to the Son of the US President.

Gavin Best

Alex isn’t publicly (or privately) gay, out, or anything… yet.

Gavin Best

Stop 🛑 talking about flights ✈️ & flowers 💐… you’re missing the JUICY bits!!!!

Ali Laura

Loved watching this again with your great commentary and reactions. I laughed so much at the need for a fan, and barking or farting or something like a chicken comment?! 🤣

Jennifer Fell

Alex actually DROOLING at 57.00 and then running off to get the fan whilst wittering incoherently, as Josh tries (and fails) to keep him on track is one of the best things I've ever seen... I am dying laughing. 😭

Anonymous

Alex you literally killed me with that FAN

CJ

They seem to be good at using the space bar to pause when needed, but someone should teach them to use the left arrow to jump back several seconds when they've missed some dialog. It's much easier than using the mouse. ;) I was so disappointed they missed my favorite joke during the Paris lunch scene 🤣

Gavin Best

Alex losing it over that first scene 🎬 🤤… HOW is he going to handle all the NEXT scenes!?!? And as for Josh going off on tangents about technicalities 🤦🏾‍♀️🤦🏻🤦🏿‍♂️… the answer to ALL his tangents is: movie time restrictions, & keeping the story flow.

Gavin Best

You guys need to watch this again… with subtitles. You two missed SO MANY brilliant one-liners, I was holding my hands up at the screen in despair. 🤲😩

Kim Engel

Same! I’m always looking for a fan emoji in Discord too lol, but this use 🔥 instead!

Kevin

It was a very cute movie. I am glad that we are finally getting full on romcoms for gays. The film is kinda fluff and dumb fun, but that's refreshing. Also both leads are sooo hot and I feel that Henry's actor did some amazing work. You can truly feel his struggle, particularly in the raft scene. I also back up that the book is kinda mediocre. It goes way more in depth into Alex's mindset and the emails are cute, but it gets boring in the middle. I like the film better.

Kim Engel

Loved this reaction, thank you! The king would’ve had me angry and depressed if he wasn’t being played by Stephen 💜🏳️‍🌈👑

Kevin

I loved Song of Achilles so much and it made me a crying mess. I agree, it would be butchered as a movie, but I would love if someone picks it up for a limited series.

Steve Marshall

Me again. So enjoyed watching this along with you. I have to admit that the first time I watched the film I was a little disappointed as it varied from the book quite a bit. But watching along with you reminded me that the central core 'rom-com' part of the story held true and was very well covered and sensitive. The book is from Alex's viewpoint only, so it was great to see scenes in the film from Henry's viewpoint. The book included a fantastic political sub-plot that was looming over the story all the way. But that should not diminish the enjoyment of the film, which was a particular viewpoint of the story. I really enjoyed watching you watching this, and can appreciate the film much better now. So thank you 🩷

Chris Metzger

I'm sooooo happy that you loved this as much as I do! This was a great reaction. I haven't ordered the book as of yet, but I will. I'm sure I'll love it just as much.

Kent Smither

As a bisexual Texan (DEEP south Texas near the tip -- both Mexico and the beach about 30 minutes away -- it was great fun to hear your thoughts on Texans. Had a blast watching this reaction. You guys combine hilarity and insight in such a delicious way!

Kim Engel

Loved the ‘Call me by your name’ shoutout, I was thinking that too! Such a beautiful scene.

BexFangirl

Damn I love this movie. Though I think the book is better, I'm definitely a lot more invested in those two characters than I was before the movie. And it's such a good comfort movie to rewatch. I've always loved the classic romcoms and this is just exactly what I needed. Also amazing reaction as always :D

Anonymous

Who told you the book is bad? As a person who craves comfort from love stories, this book belongs to one of my favourite. I understand changes were necessary to be made but I'm still bit bitter about absence of June and how those email were handled. On the other hand chemistry between Alex and Henry is pure perfect 👌. Also please watch it next time with subs you missed mouthful of good jokes 😉.

John Walker

Thank you - that was lovely :)

Hannah Howden

Me watching your reaction to these GORGEOUS men re-realizing how much of a lesbian I am 🤣🤣🤣

Clash

Have watched red white and royal blue 4 times now. It gets better each time. Loved watching with you two. Romcoms are great. There is some class lines. You need to rewatch the Paris cafe some there is a great line in the scene. You both make me laugh so much 😂

🫶 spot on

Diane Furlong

I don’t think I heard a single “Bless your heart “. That would have taken the cake. 🇺🇸

Diane Furlong

It’s late in the day and I’m ready to sit back and enjoy this fun movie.

Amanda

My heart is full, I’m so, so happy to have joined to watch this, as I already have watched a lot of what you have done to date (Skam was lovely). DO read the book. It is better. It is American-centric because the book is mostly from Alex’s perspective. Basically you don’t get any of Henry’s POV. That said, the book is better than the movie. Objectively, the movie has parts that are super corny and cheesy and green-screeny, but I still love it, particularly for some of the parts you observed, such as the realism of the moments between Henry and Alex (for chemistry) and the mum’s recommendations for safe sex (which you NEVER SEE). But the book has better plot (I get why they changed it for the movie, but book is better), MORE sauce (in terms of Alex’s “filthy f&$ing mouth” - direct quote), and raunchy, jaw-dropping sex scenes. READ THE BOOK, I beg you. Loved the reaction.

Honestly loved your reaction to this. Don’t think I have laughed as much watching a reaction and there was a lot of good points as well.

Amanda

Oh, sorry- forgot to add that the first time I saw the actor playing Henry, it was some years ago, but he was playing a gay rugger in the movie “Handsome Devil.” Highly recommend and would love to see you react to it, if you’re so inclined.

Trisha Renee

This was my third time watching this movie since it came out and the crowd showing, full on Pride style outside of the castle makes me tear up every time! It's beautiful and it showcases the best part of the queer community standing up and supporting each other because we all know how it feels to have our autonomy taken away. Loved watching through with you, it made the funny bits even better! I have to say though, my least favorite part was from Alex showing up at the castle in the night to their museum scene. I know it's supposed to be sweet, but it just didn't quite make sense to me. They never actually talked through/solved anything. Henry said he wouldn't exchange one cage for another, but then 2 minutes later is doing just that? I have a feeling something was left out of the movie that hopefully makes it all make more sense in the book.

Laura Ibarra

Great reaction!! Loved the movie and enjoyed the points you made and seeing it from your perspective. As a Democrat from California watching Texas blue was 🤯

Trisha Renee

There were a couple times where I was like, "guys, shut up you're missing shit!" But also, isn't their reactions what we all come here for?? 😂

Mads

honestly not really... in the book, Alex fights a bit harder for Henry, the speech in the movie is good, but the book kind of plans out how they could deal with the press, their private life etc. and the love is something Henry just can't deny himself. He eventually folds saying he doesn't think he can do it alone, and alex reassures him, he'll be by his side.....I think? lol bene awhile, but I guess there's more comforting and lengthier discussion, the prison for prison line is soo good and damning, but the movie kinda of failed to have Henry circle back that he wants Alex more than anything.

Luna

Umm harry is a dimunitive of Henry. They being British are aware of that and that's why they call him Harry. Most English monarchs named Henry were called Harry including Prince Williams younger brother, the current Duke of Sussex, Henry Charles Albert David aka Prince Harry

Mark Heidel

The movie was good and in interviews they talk that they had to cut out everything that wasn't about Alex and Henry but the book really gives the backstory and much more of the emails and the progression of the early getting to know each other. I am listening to the Audio book for the second time now that I have seen the movie. Alex/Josh would love for an update video if you do reach the book or listen to the audio book which I recommend because you can get more the back and forth. and let us know your thoughts on it.

Amanda

100% agree with interest in getting their thoughts on the book/ differences between the book and the movie.

Luna

Well it was his high school best friend not college roommate and by the time he meets Henry it's been four years since thier last "hook-up" (during which time his mom became president and he became the first son and he had to be assume the role of all American boy, universally appealing and inoffensive), which consisted of maturbating next to each other while watching porn, his friend giving him a hand job one time and a one time makeout session when they were drunk thier senior year. Considering all these it's not really far fetched that he hasn't really given serious thought to if he was bisexual or not. He starts to question it because Henry is actually the first time he has kissed a boy AND wanted to it again AND even go FURTHER than kissing...he has never had these thoughts before not even with his high school best friend with whom he has done quite a bit of sexual experimentation with....his confusion at wanting to be intimate in that way again with Henry is what begins his bisexual awakening.

Gavin Best

I wanted to strangle you two when you dismissed Henry’s Karaoke 🎤skills!! Henry’s had a dozen tequila shots before singing; so naturally his singing voice will be too relaxed to reach those Freddy Mercury high notes! (Alcohol is the WORST thing for the singing voice; although it might boost your courage). I loved this scene; it was the first time we see Henry totally relaxed, uninhibited in public, & reaching a place of human normalcy. Which was probably why Alex had THAT realisation. ❤️

Beach gurl Bi

It was so interesting that you both made the immediate assumption that Alex was Gay, and out. Too many gay people automatically assume that when someone displays same sex attraction they are either gay or lesbian. Bi and pan people exist, we are here, and it's amazing to finally see more representation.

DP

U talked over the best joke. I’m crushed

Michael Cox

Loved the movie, but there are lots of changes and deletions from the book. It’s so much better. Although knowing the book ads a ton more deeper context to Henry & Alex and their relationship

Kent Smither

Well, my grandmother would DEFINITELY have said "Bless your heart," so there's that. But I also I grew up in a majority Hispanic community and taught school there as well (actually bilingual in English and Spanish, my mother made sure of it) So a lot of the movie and Alex and his father and the "evil gay" as well as the southern/Texan culture felt very personal. The "my abuela brought my father here when he was 12" and the "people with a 'z' at the end of their name not having power or much representation" was powerful. The conflation of the Hispanic minority issues with the gay minority issues was important and powerful.

Michael Craig

Wasn't planning on watching this, but glad that I did. Thanks!

Kent Smither

Amanda -- I'm from San Benito, Texas just about 10 miles from Brownsville which is the very bottom tip of Texas. We call our area the RGV -- Rio Grande Valley Lived here most all my life and taught here for 37 years.

Amanda

Yes. I saw flaws with this movie, but I will 100% recommend and love it for having a strong, confident bi character. Same reason I sobbed when seeing the first season of Heartstopper. There’s not enough Bi representation, and this is just *Chef’s Kiss*. In the book that line he has- Seria una mentira porque no seria el, is just the definition of what it is to be Bi, when people assume it’s easy to “just choose.” So lovely, this story.

Diane Furlong

I had seen the movie a couple of times already but I so loved watching along with Alex and Josh. I think both of our countries are well represented. It felt pretty good to see a Strong, sensible Female president. I loved the chemistry between Alex and Henry. What a beautiful way to end the day. As always, Thank You Guys

Logan de Hoyos

Alright guys, pausing every 5 seconds and talking over important bits in the movie had me screaming. There was so much you guys missed. Also there is a bonus scene after the credits that you need to watch as well regarding the cake scene. The book goes more indepth into everything so it's really important to get the full context of everything. Characters were swapped with different ones, some characters were never shown or even mentioned (Alex has a sister in the book) and Nora is basically a combination of his sister and her character in the book, and Henry's mom played a major role when confronting the royal family. There's plenty of others but I really hope you enjoyed the movie and really hope you all have time to rewatch the movie to catch the important bits you missed and that you have time to read the book.

Donna Borg

GOD tier 🤣 🤣  100 %. love both your reactions and glad you enjoyed it 😄

booknerd_charlie

They comment in the book on why they communicate via email vs texts. I really wish they included more of the emails tbh, because they really give you a deeper sense of the beginning of their relationship and the journey to falling in love. The emails were witty but they were also romantic. I wonder if the 3 hour director’s cut has more.

Kennia

i've never seen 2 gays struggled so much watching bare chest men lmao i was dying lol

JustinThyme

Wow, it was so much fun watching that with you. Seeing you both get hot and bothered was awesome!

booknerd_charlie

The author, Casey McQuiston, wrote the book as a sort of alternate universe where Trump was never elected. So, it’s definitely more idealistic and fantastical in that there’s so many women in power and the sitting US President is so progressive. If only our reality were the same. I agree with other commenters about the book being more in-depth. The emails in particular really help with the character development and the evolution of their relationship. I know Amazon wanted this movie to be shorter, so they ended up having to edit so much out, and unfortunately I think we lost a lot of good opportunities. In ,y opinion, the biggest missed opportunity is not showing more of Henry’s perspective. I know the book is written from Alex’s POV, but the movie had the chance to rectify that and balance the POVs more. I would have loved to dive deeper into Henry’s character and the challenges and restrictions he faced daily, to better understand his more realistic approach to their relationship. It also does mean that both the book and movie are more American-centric, which can be alienating for international readers/viewers. So glad you both enjoyed the film!

Darrin Bodner

The intimacy coach did a good job. 🙂

DC

Loved the reaction, Alex/Josh. I did my second watch of the film along with you guys. I hope you'll be reacting to more movies going forward. Nimona is a great animated film on Netflix that had me thinking of how you two would feel about the LGBTQ+ themes in it. You should check it out!

D.A. Rowley

Anonymous

As a Texan, born, raised, and still living in Houston, I cry every time I read the ending of this book. Texas is in reality about 52% very conservative and 48% progressive/liberal and we are fighting hard to make sure the world knows thay many, many of us are welcoming and inclusive. (also, Uma's accent.... Well, she tried hard.) 🤷

Jennifer Conner

This was such a fun reaction to watch! From y’all thirsting over and/or being so shook by the sexy scenes, to you being totally enthralled/speechless during the deeper scenes.. just gold!

Professor Wonkadoodle

You guys should watch Handsome Devil, where the actor who plays the prince played a queer rugby player at boarding school. 👀

Clayton Bockman

I loved this movie so much. I had to join just to see your uncut reaction. Worth every cent. Hilarious reaction! 😍❤️😈🤣

Apricot M

So glad I joined here! Enjoyed this reaction a lot)

Nalia

To me, more shocking than Texas being blue was Minnesota being red! Minnesota hasn't voted red in 50 years!

Hannah Gibson

Both the Dutch and the Belgian royal families also announced it was fine if their heirs were gay (specifically their first in the line for the throne daughters in both cases).

Eirini

am I Miguel? BUHAHAH

Anonymous

loved the reaction! you asked, so i'm just going to tell you that the book is so so good and i seriously highly recommend it!!! of course it's not for everyone (nothing ever is), but if you liked the movie, the book is just something else in the sense that it's seriously AMAZING. i've read it about four times now and it means so much to me. you get so much more insight to all the little things that make their story the amazing love story that it is. you get to learn more about alex and henry as their own characters and about their own struggles, too and i love that so much. the emails make much more sense and play a bigger part in the book, also!!! :)

Jose Sanchez

If you loved the movie, then I’m sure you will love the book.

Diane Furlong

Welcome to you. Be sure to stick around and check out all of the amazing content. Alex and Josh post treats here often.

Diane Furlong

I need to check that out and I heard that he’s going to be in a movie soon called “Bottoms”

Diane Furlong

I’m not Texan but I am American. I think Uma did a pretty good job portraying a strong, Southern Lady. I loved her character. I was hoping for a “Bless your Heart “ somewhere in there as icing on the cake (yikes no pun intended regarding the cake comment)

Anonymous

I really think y’all will love the book. I’ve had a few friends that weren’t big fans, but if you loved the movie, you will probably love the book. The writing style isn’t my favorite in terms of the tense that it’s written in but once you get into it, it’s delightful and hilarious. Also, as a Texan, the book is a fantasy I would desperately love see come true. We’ve been hoping for years to turn the state at least back to purple but no such luck yet.

Diane Furlong

His normal singing voice is quite nice. In the movie the singing demonstrated someone who was three sheets to the wind and having the time of his life. It was his time to step away from being a “proper” British gentleman.

Anonymous

Loved the book. I love you two on YouTube. I literally joined Patreon today just so I could see your uncut reaction to this movie.

Diane Furlong

Welcome! There’s so much going on here in Patreon. It’s money well spent. Be sure to stick around, please

Anonymous

I CAN'T EVEN, lmao, when you paused the film and walked away I was dying.

Anonymous

The author of the book has a cameo. She's the woman at the laptop in the scene where the president is working on her concession speech.

L Archibald

The deleted scene is so cute!!

Anonymous

There is an online petition circulating asking Amazon to release the original 3h cut of the movie. We need to have this happen.

Daylet

I haven’t laughed this hard at a movie commentary in awhile! So glad y’all enjoyed it!

Crystal Pritchard

The one prison for another is explained a bit better in the books, but it also takes longer to get to the potential solution. Basically in the books Alex is determined to fast track his way into politics, he’s almost done his undergrad and wants to immediately jump into his political career after graduation. In the end, he decides having a more private life with Henry would be preferable and admits that he secretly took the bar exam and is thinking of going to law school instead and helping people through that route, rather than a public life. Or at least a public life immediately. He grieves the loss of his political ambitions, but ultimately decides that helping people while getting to live the life he wants with Henry is better than being a career politician.

David Watt

Ah this has been the best 2.25 hours of my life! You laughed at the right bits, cried at the rights bits (and occasionally talked over the saucy bits - yes agcd IS a mouthful) I hope you watch it again just to be able to take it all in.

Mark Walker

That was a delightful commentary! I do wish you would turn on the shows' captions. You would have not been questioning "Harry or Henry"? You would have known when the reporter and Alex were talking in Spanish they had a sex-related back story (rather than wondering), and you probably wouldn't have missed that very saucy line that made it clear the prince thought Alex's organ is a mouthful. I wouldn't want you two to change your back and forth banter, but I also feel a bit disappointed when you miss a great moment to react to because you didn't hear it (but would have know about if the captions were on).

Anonymous

The book is great! It's super fun, I think you guys would enjoy it. It's very much better than the movie, but what's new. I still love the movie as well.

Anonymous

btw the emails are written like that in the book! they're longer and they're absolutely beautiful. i was glad they were able to include at least some aspects of them into the movie.

Anonymous

With y'all this is my 4th viewing and I adore this movie. I'm 58, male queer and I wish this representation was around when I was you age. Better late than never.

Kyren Hammond

I was expecting a comment about being in good hands and British Boarding schools in here some where lol

Lucy

You're right, they did skip past a significant moment in the Kensington Palace argument scene - in the book, they fight, then end up having angsty sex (angsty because they both think it's 'goodbye'), then the next morning Henry leaves first, but runs into his brother Philip, who talks to him about how he and his new wife are trying for kids, even though Philip's never wanted children, because it's the 'expected' thing for royals to do. Which makes Henry realise he doesn't want to give up the life he wants to do the 'expected' thing, and that he's willing to try to be with Alex despite Alex's political ambitions. Then he and Alex make up, and agree that although they've got to keep their relationship secret until after the election, they want to try to go public afterwards. They go to the museum the following night, after they've dealt with all that baggage. The outing scene hits harder in the book, because they've discussed coming out on their own terms, but the leak happens before they get the chance to do so.

IAmom

Alex looking up at the imaginary maypole LOL!!!!

D.A. Rowley

Also, Stone Henge, Nelson's Column...they need to learn to scroll back a few frames.

Anonymous

Loved your reaction so so much! ❤️Y’all missed the best joke in the movie, tho (in Paris cafe scene). You need amend with reaction to that! 😂

Gavin Best

I loved the parallel: • Henry is silenced & forbidden to speak while Zahra interrogates him & Alex caught in the hotel, on US soil; 🇺🇸 • Alex is silenced & forbidden to speak while King Stephen Fry interrogates him & Henry at Buckingham Palace… on UK soil. 🇬🇧

Starla Morgan

I joined just to watch you react to this whole movie. I absolutely loved your reactions! You are both so much fun!! The fan!! 🤣

Michael Cox

After rewatching, I’ve made my piece with the parts that were left out from the book, but one line could’ve made up for the hospital scene when they bonded over a love of Star Wars. In the Balcony scene, Alex should have said, “I know,” instead of, “I love you more,” when Henry told him he loved him. After all in the book, they refer to each other as Han & Leia. Just my thoughts as a Star Wars fan lol

Grace

I just joined to watch your reaction to the whole movie bc I need a support group. But seriously love you guys so much! Thank you for this.

Amanda

I’m an Oklahoman born and raised. Unfortunately it’s much more conservative there, and I don’t have hope it will change anytime soon, but I am rooting for Texas progressives!

Anonymous

BOYS, at 1:06:00 you missed one the best lines and one I was hoping you'd react to... Alex says "And I thought [his name] was a mouthful." and Henry says "He is..."

Anonymous

They need to hit that pause button more often when they start talking! 😜⏸️✋

Anonymous

I was laughing so hard at the long pause and then the “are you with us?” I legitimately thought I was going to pass out. 🤣🤣🤣

Raine in Chaos

In the book, Henry's mother is mostly absent, but is supportive of Henry against the monarch (the queen, in the book) Of course they had to cut out several characters, but I think they lost something by removing her entirely instead of just having her show up at the wedding and then again when the emails were leaked, or if nothing else they should have had Bea play a bit of that role in the movie

Raine in Chaos

Anyway, I loved this reaction. I didn't realize just how badly I needed to see some British gays reacting to this in addition to those of us on my side of the Atlantic. Your royal hardness indeed 😅

Grace

I don't think I've laughed this hard in a long time. I keep having to pause and rewind. When you pulled out the fan I died!?!!! All of your rollercoaster of emotions I went through as well. Anyway only halfway done. LOVING THIS REACTION!!!! P.S. There's a really good interview with the director on a Podcast called I've Never Said This Before. He discusses the sex scene. He wanted for once to see a loving realistic portrayal of two men making love. He told the studio he would not make the movie unless he was able to have the freedom to not shy away from the sexual parts of the book.

Grace

P.S. I have been shocked at how many straight women are just now learning gay men have missionary sex. It's embarrassing. LOL.

Anonymous

came to the comments to point this out. I almost threw my laptop across the room when they missed it 😭 Also, "princes can't be gay" part by Nora

Grace

RE: Other Gay UK Celebs and Royals. In the book Henry is quite well read and has a passion for literature. Specifically he knows all of the UK Gay History, any Author who was secretly gay, Kings who had a ‘gentleman of the bedchamber, etc. He's very passionate about it. One of my favorite things in the book are the quotes from queer love letters they share with each other. It's how they would end every email. It's so romantic. I understand why they were largely left out of the movie due to timing. The only part of this they really featured in the movie was when they were discussing different Books and Authors. Henry went on a rant about his love for Byron's poetry. You guys commented that it was boring (made me laugh) but it's a HUGE part of their connection. I hope we get some of the love letter quotes in deleted scenes or a directors cut.

Raine in Chaos

Texas is *legitimately* a swing state, and I don't think enough people realize that. It was CLOSE last presidential election, and the more texas liberals and progressives see just how close it is, the more likely it can actually flip. I think it was closer than Ohio?

Ingela Gjomakaj

I loved watching this with you two, I saw it the same day it was released but together with you it was the best ❤️, I like your way of describing your perspective in everything. I read the book in 2020 (actually in audible in Swedish) and it’s kind of more steamy 😎 but I think they have made the best adaptation from the book. It’s not totally the same but the essence is there. Love it.

Gavin Best

I LOVED Alex having a personality crisis in the middle of this show… “Am I really Miguel?? Am I the villain?!?!” 😩

Grace

Someone else may have pointed this out already and I missed it. Alex's orange baseball cap Henry wears in Texas is the UT Austin Longhorns Hat. (American College Mascot) Alex grew up in Austin. In general Texan's have a lot of love for the Longhorns. No idea why but it's def a thing.

Diane Furlong

What a nice afternoon and evening! This afternoon I watched Part 1 of RWRB on YouTube ✅ This evening I re-watched Uncut RWRB here on Patreon ✅ Life is good. Thank You Alex and Josh!

Grace

For anyone who hasn't yet buy the collectors edition of the book. There's a new Henry Chapter told from his POV that gives you a look years into their future. It's everything I would have hoped for them and a great blue print for a sequel. In good news they are end game for each other forever.

Daylet

“Not gonna lie, but this relationship is costing a lot of carbon emission” the way I almost choked from laughter cannot be overstated. Alex, this was hilarious!

Grace

Movie Timeline Notes (in case anyone is interested). I think the director did a brilliant job with the pacing. Considering the span of time you’re covering. As well as the evolution of two characters. AND it all needs to feel real and authentic. -The Royal Wedding Cake incident happened in August. -Alex and Henry then text flirt for 4 months. Starting from the PR Damage Control to the NYE Party. End of August to end of December. -End of December. NYE Kiss. 4 months is a lot of build up and a long time for them to get to know each other. Which is why I believed Henry when he was so upset seeing Alex kiss someone else. -Then Henry ghosts Alex for over 2 months. January to TBD March. -The PM Dinner where they first see each other again (after the ghosting) is sometime in March. -March to the following August they date. Cut to the DNC in Brooklyn when Henry surprises Alex in August. (1 YR Mark) -In the states the election is always the beginning of November. So total time is Approx 1 year 2 months from Cake Gate to Election night.

Gavin Best

LOVED Zahra!!! 🖤🖤🖤 I loved her character as soon as she started pelting Alex with cushions from the Oval Office. And NO APOLOGIES required for Zahra chastising Henry as well. That entire lengthy scene 🎬 was comedy GOLD.

Grace

I think this change made sense for the movie.

Grace

I don't think it matters if you read the book before or after the movie. JUST DO IT! The love letters/emails alone are worth it. Get the collectors edition for the new Henry Chapter told from his POV.

Grace

I love that line and the cute way they look at each other. I did want to see your reaction to this too. So good!

Grace

Although I loved both the movie and the book I agree about the loss of queer love letters from the movie. It would be my one complaint.

Grace

I agreed with him too! Great observation that I had missed.

Grace

It's one of the lines they took directly from the book. It makes me heart melt.

Grace

When he started drooling I died! I felt so seen.

Grace

Americans are rude when compared to the Brit stiff upper lip way of being. (I'm one so I can say that.)

Grace

Zahra is so good! And no she doesn't give a fuck about how she speaks to Henry which is VERY American. The formal royal thing is so weird and outdated to us. When she called him Little Lord Fuck Le Roy I died.

Grace

In the book he stays at the White House to save money on security and be close to school. In the states you're constantly scrutinized regarding how you spend money as a politician.

Grace

I'm so glad Matthew Lopez was chosen as the Director. I think his background as a Tony Award winning playwright and director helped make this movie what it is. He also spent two weeks with the leads rehearsing before they shot. I believe that was HUGE in creating the chemistry and ease you see between them in the movie. Fun Fact 1: The scene where they get awkward and talk over each other after the first real hookup came out of rehearsals. Fun Fact 2: The Zahra has a panic attack moment when she catches Alex and Henry just came from her when they were filming. It wasn't written or planned. Alex is just reacting at that point when he helps her sit on the bed.

Grace

I think Henry knew he was 'making love' that night and prepped ahead of time. LOL. I did love the nod to the travel size lube on the night stands. And did anyone else notice there were two used condoms?!

Grace

Yes I was so bummed they missed the entire convo that started with Stonehenge. I've watched it over and over. So fucking funny.

Grace

I agree and liked how they handled Alex being bi in the movie better.

Grace

They both look so damn hot in that Paris Cafe scene. The lighting. The music. It's really romantic. Apparently it was the first scene they shot for the movie.

Grace

In real life he has a beautiful voice and plays guitar. He just posted a swoony video the other day. He's ridiculously talented and attractive. LOL.

Grace

My thoughts on that damn Dock Scene and Henry's 'Rules'. In the book which I assumed was the same in the movie. Henry knows if it gets to 'I Love You' it's over. I think it's part of the 'rules' he's laid out for himself to live inside this monarchy box. I also think in the past he's never even let it go as far as he has with Alex. So this conversation on the dock is his worst nightmare. Which he's spent years putting up walls to avoid. He's panicked and devastated and heart broken because he knows now it has to be over. In some way I think he thinks he's explained himself to Alex enough that Alex would know the boundaries he's set for himself and respect them. Alex crossed the line by saying 'I Love You'. Alex should understand it's now over. Hence the comment Henry makes later about 'having done nothing but explain myself this past year' when Alex is confronting him at the palace. Well Alex is a loud mouth American so NOPE. I can't say enough good things about how this dock scene was shot and executed. The way they held a single long shot on Henry was so effective. The look on Henry's face made me cry. He conveyed every heartbreaking emotion without saying a single word. P.S. Did anyone else notice when Henry dives into the water and floats for a minute he puts his hand over his heart? I mean the subtle detail. P.S.S. How romantic was Alex’s line to Henry: ‘It’s like there’s a rope attached to my chest and it keeps pulling me towards you….’

Grace

One of my fave Queer Love Letter Quotes from the book. From Alex to Henry. P.S. Allen Ginsberg to Peter Orlovsky - 1958: Tho I long for the actual sunlight contact between us I miss you like a home. Shine back honey & think of me.

Grace

Dear Thisbe, I wish there weren’t a wall. Love, Pyramus

Grace

RE: Polo Players Aren't Hot and Why That's Wrong. The tack room scene from the book will make you look at a polo player in a different light. Just read it then re-watch the scene from the movie. I promise you will never say a polo player (and those tight white pants) are not hot ever again. LOL. Alex's internal monologue is spinning out a bit and thinking 'Why do I think this is so hot now? I should hate this. Polo is a pretentious rich white sport. Damn Henry's really good at this.' The look on Alex's face in the movie watching Henry play has all those realizations written all over it. Anyway it's funny and hot with dialogue in the book. But I LOVE how they covered it in the movie too.

Grace

I'm on my 4th re-watch of your reaction. Watching you react to a movie I've now watch too many times to count. I may be slightly obsessed. LOL. But seriously I can't say enough great things about your reactions, comments, observations, and insights. LOVE YOU GUYS! Very much look forward to your Young Royals Season 3 reactions.

Crystal Pritchard

My fav quote from the book was “Dear Thisby, I wish there weren’t a wall. Love Pyramus”. I know it’s not in the emails but I had the same oh hell no he’s not getting away with leaving reaction that Alex had. I was gutted they didn’t include the note in the movie. To me that quote, given their situation, is just so romantic.

Grace

I LOVE that one too!!! I just re-read it earlier thinking the same thing. The meaning behind it. Ugh. My Heart.

JASON ALEXANDER

when Alex said "do you think he douched before?" had me on the floor on all fours laughing!!!! I actually was thinking the same thing....

Anonymous

The movie adaptation ages them up. In the book Alex was not in law school yet but the movie has him doing the post grad work.

Anonymous

I think knowing from the book all what’s going on with Henry and Alex internally adds to the enjoyment of the film. But Taylor and Nicholas have added so much powerful subtly that I see something new every time I rewatch and I have watched it everyday since it came out. I have also read the book at least 4 times.

Anonymous

I loved your reactions to British references but your puzzled looks or non reactions to the American references were hysterical. I have watched American reactions to this as well and a majority of the time they do not recognize Stephen Fry, which I don’t understand at all. Because, Stephen Fry! The emails in the book are so much better than the adaptation. They give more insight into Henry. But the book was always from Alex’s perspective. It’s his story. The adaptation gives a lit of Henry and balances them.

Grace

Totally agree about the powerful subtly of their performances and seeing something new each time. I really can't say enough great things about them both. Now when I read the book I just see Taylor and Nicholas. They're both so so good. Perfect casting.

Grace

The timeline is different than the book and the movie was moving fast. So I literally wrote it out so I could have a visual map. (Yes, I may have zoomed in on Henry's first text to see the exact date which is 8/27.)

D.A. Rowley

In the scene with Henry and Alex in Alex's bedroom (the red couch) when Henry pushes him back on the couch and starts to kiss Alex....I CAN’T STOP looking at Alex’s hip movement OMG https://youtu.be/hoFljxXRWRc

Marstrand

Josh, again with the mixup about Young Royals beeing a Norwegian show and not a Swedish show🤷🏼‍♀️😜.

Jennifer Carrigg

We deserve happy romcoms!!! We have too many tragedies!!! 💕💕💕

Jennifer Carrigg

What about the UK monarchy though….. Something tells me we won’t get one from their problematic asses.

I loved & totally understood your metaphors, Alex… regarding the realism/idealism of politics beside the realism/idealism of Coming Out. Alex Claremont Diaz seems to lean towards idealism in both areas… possibly because he has the youthfulness & freedom of a non-Royal to believe that both are idealistically possible. I think this movie will be about him learning about the realism of both. 🇺🇸🇬🇧

I thought I was the only one who did that 😭 I re-watch until new things come out

I love your videos and reactions! But I also have one request: In some reactions (e.g. this one) you unfortunately miss a few important passages because you talk over them. I would be very happy if you would pause the video more often and take your time for a comment. Then maybe less of your questions will remain unanswered - bc they often were answered in the video while you were talking ;) Love you guys!

Anonymous

You missed the best line of the whole thing!!!! “He is!” How could you miss the cheekiest line of the whole thing! I’m literally yelling at my phone for you two to rewind. 😩😩💜💜

Raine in Chaos

My favorite part of that though was that Josh was trying to make a joke and just couldn't find one... and in doing so they talked right over the actual joke 😂

b

re: the intimacy scene -- I think Henry has been made to believe he only deserves sex, while Alex believes he deserves love, so they speak those languages a little more fluently, if you will. but really it is a first for both, Alex with a man and Henry with someone he loves/loves him back.

Gavin Best

I also loved this alternative reality created by the author ✍🏼… where not only was there a female Democratic President 🇺🇸 , but ALL the female characters were in positions of power & influence… directly assisting the President (Zahra) & the outcome of the next Election 🗳️… the Secret Service (Amy)… the UK 🇬🇧 Prime Minister… a lot of Black/Brown representation 🖤🤎… …and ALL of them were not attached to the hip of a man, or pining away for one. They were FREE & independent, happily intent on protecting others, or finding more female candidates to be elected (Nora)… their only romantic intentions (including Princess Bea) was to get these two lovesick boys together! ❤️‍🩹

Gavin Best

I loved how they put Henry in a double-breasted suit; whereas Alex & everybody else were in single-breasted suits. It immediately communicated Royalty… and that extra shield 🛡️ of mystery, secrecy & separation from the rest of the world.

Gavin Best

I was a bit frustrated when Josh just assumed that Henry “seemed” happy because he plays polo. Living a double-life is HELL on your mental health; I for one would refuse to do it, & prioritise my mental health over everything else. You would spiral🌀down a path of depression & eventually suicide if you tried to maintain that double-life facade. STUFF the Institution of the Monarchy. Henry only plays polo because that is something that princes are expected & allowed to do. Polo is just Henry dutifully ticking ✅ one of the Royal requirements.

Gavin Best

Bea: Did Grandpa find out? Henry: Not this time. I think this conversation is an indication that Henry hasn’t been found out at all yet… but both H & B have realised that it will only be a matter of time. Especially when H falls really hard for someone… and this time with A, he HAS. 💔

Gavin Best

When poor Henry was outed by nasty Miguel, I immediately flashed back to how poor Charlie from Heartstopper was outed… denied doing it on his own terms/timeline… & the terrible spiral🌀of self-loathing, & self-destructive behaviour that resulted afterwards. 😞 Society does not realise how detrimental this terrible act can be.

Diane Furlong

I think it’s time to revisit the uncut version again this morning

Shona

I love this films so much. I watched a couple of minutes of your video on you tube and came and subscribed to your patreon. I have watched a lot of reactions to it and I think your may be my favourite!! You guys are fabulous. Xx

PLEASE PLEASE REWIND AND WATCH THE CAFE SCENE….!!! It’s the best!!! Can’t believe you missed it! 😳😳 xx

Anonymous

325 comments in and can’t believe I’m the only one to point out that Philip (the heir) would hold the title “Prince of Wales” and Henry (the spare) would be the “Duke of York”. But really, I don’t care: I love both book and film.

Gavin Best

The author ✍🏼 of RW&RB wanted to create a fictional world where Trump HADN’T been elected… and instead have a female Democratic President (from Texas, with a half-Mexican son). 🇺🇸 🇲🇽 She also created an entirely fictional Royal Family… so that she could have a gay Prince 👑 🇬🇧 fall in love with the President’s bisexual son.

Gavin Best

I also LOVE all the richly drawn, powerful women in this story: whether they be Presidents🇺🇸, Prime Ministers🇬🇧… Presidential Aide📊(Zahra), Secret Service😎(Amy)… Vice President’s daughter💻 (Nora)… more interested in finding female-identifying candidates to elect to office, than in the attentions of a UK🇬🇧man (although his flowers💐are welcomed)… even Princess Bea👑is more interested in the tortured romance of her brother👔💔, with no need whatsoever to have a man for herself! ❌ I love this fictional world. All these female characters are so FREE to lead countries, protect others… re-elect female Presidents… no “Ken” on the side is required for them to truly stand, live, & impact their world. 🌎🌍🌏

Diane Furlong

Yes, there are Many Strong Females in this Story. They support the beautiful love story as they also help to make the world a better place.

Diane Furlong

Welcome to Patreon!! Stick around and check the wonderful content that Alex and Josh provide for us.

I HAVE NOW…!!!! Thank you and it was perfect!!! 👏🏻👏🏻

Grace

I also want to see a rewatch of the scene with what was said before 'Royal Hardness'. They talked through it and it was great!

Grace

Anyone else feel like they literally have the movie memorized at this point?!

b

i love so much that henry gives alex his ring, a symbol of his captivity, and alex gives him the key that represents his own truest self, from before anyone knew his name. it's henry saying i'm locked in and alex saying not if you open yourself up to what you deserve. even better that it's a key because what do keys give us? privacy and self-determination like alex's speech says.

ser brienne

finally watched this movie tonight, so of course i then had to come straight on here to watch it again with you guys! i full on sobbed when the crowds turned up outside buckingham palace with pride flags 😭 beautiful!

Gavin Best

Alex (RW&RB): Just to… put it out there… Other Alex: You did… That was VERY NICELY “slipped in” & timed. Well done. 👍🏼👍🏽👍🏿👍👍🏻👍🏾

Gavin Best

…so what IS it about English Boarding Schools… that makes closeted gays sexually expert in their… field of choice?????

Gavin Best

That conversation after lovemaking in Paris… with H tentatively asking if A wishes he wasn’t in politics, or doubts himself being in politics… I now am feeling the premonition for later… …when H is protesting that he will NOT trade one prison (The Crown) for another (politics). When A was confessing how passionate he is about politics, to get even MORE involved… I think H’s heart was sinking. Despairing.

Gavin Best

I was really entranced in the book 📕 when H brought A to the museum, explaining what it was; & the movie 🎥 didn’t disappoint either. I loved the concept of the museum being H’s secret sanctuary, where H could move around completely free & unbothered, unfettered… & the scene 🎬 of H & A dancing 🫂 amongst all those statues… unseeing, without judgement; yet present with them.

Anonymous

So the first time for them must’ve gone well…seeing as there’s TWO torn open square packets on the bedside cabinet & floor…👀 and how did Zahra not spy the bottle of…on the bedside table in the hotel room when she was bringing Henry out of the closet? (sorry, not sorry!) 🤔👀

So many comments and I know you don't need anymore BUT ... I saved this for a Friday and I'm so glad I did because it absolutely MADE MY DAY!!!! To say I loved this reaction would be an understatement -- it's one of my all-time favorites, no question. Thank you so much! (As someone who read the book first, I hated the movie the first time I watched it. But watching it a hundred more times I have grown to appreciate it as its own entity. And watching reactions of people who didn't read the book has helped me see what the movie got right.)

Gavin Best

I love how the mammoth wedding cake 🍰 is like a metaphor for the Traditional Royal Image/world order… which Alex & Henry, their relationship will rock its foundations, topple over & knock to the floor.

Anonymous

Thank you for your brilliant, witty and insightful reaction to this sweet little film.

Matthew Binczek

I love you guys! But with a movie like this that has dialogue coming at you rapidfire you have to pay more attention lol I know we want to hear what you say but maybe pause more? You’re missing a lot of great lines 💜

Harry

You missed Henry saying he was as hard as stonehenge, big Ben and "he is" I am very disappointed in you boys. But you made me cry with laughter with gobble gobble so all is forgiven and I love you so much!! 💗

Mateo_gk

Oh he was absolutely testing the waters to see if there was any chance that their relationship could remain anonymous. But after he realized that Alex was actually really passionate about politics that’s when he started to realize that it was just a matter of time before he had to ditch him. He just didn’t want to.

Gavin Best

Agreed… and I think we saw all those emotions flash across H’s face at the lake scene… where H was heartbrokenly realising that everything A was describing & alluding to, H wanted & felt it also. 🏊🏻‍♂️💔

Gavin Best

Back in the day… when politics was seriously still a Men’s Club 🙄… I bet there were HEAPS of cigars being smoked in the White House.

Gavin Best

Please correct me if I’m wrong… but after that confidential 🤫 conversation between Alex & Nora in Nora’s office… I got the feeling that realising your own sexuality is a little more complicated for bisexual people, than for gay people. As a gay man, the attraction for the same sex (and virtually none for the opposite) appears on your radar a LOT more strongly, & clearly. Whereas for bisexual people, if you’re already attracted to the opposite sex… you might just assume you’re hetero for a lengthy part of your life… before you eventually realise that you’re attracted to the same sex just as strongly.

Anonymous

I’m now on my 6th time watching this video 🤣 does that make me pathetic? Haha!

Diane Furlong

Okay, please don’t judge me but yes I’m watching again. (There’s worse things that I could be doing, right?)

Anonymous

I've watched this movie 5 times and 3 times with you guys! LOL I guess I'm obsessed!

Grace Pryor

there’s a small post credit scene to this film

Anonymous

I have to agree with previous comments I have watched this way too many times lol You guys just put a smile on my face every day.

Anonymous

LOL "Are there gays in Texas" As a person from Oklahoma which is right above Texas I can tell you there are plenty of Gays and Bi's in this area lmao. I will say it's a different culture in this part of the US compared to either coast.

Anonymous

Kinda sad y'all missed the "he is" comment!

Anonymous

I have watched the full movie about 5-6 times and then various clips way too many times to remember. And this uncut rewatch? Like 5 times already. I keep pausing it because I’m laughing so much!

Anonymous

I agree! The emails were so beautiful, personal and naughty. I loved them.

Gavin Best

Can we just credit this film 🎥 for unthreading Alex Minks before our very eyes? As Alex becomes more & more frayed, & speechless 😶… incapable of coherent dialogue… 🤤 😵‍💫 🥴 😵… it was a testament to what everyone thought was going to be a “fluffy rom-com”.

Gavin Best

The clasping & releasing of hands during the lovemaking scene 🎬 in Paris 🇫🇷 made me remember that conversation they shared outdoors, after the cafe ☕️ scene: Alex: Can (Henry Fox) ever belong to someone else? Henry: Only momentarily. The hand clasping was the visual imagery for temporarily belonging to somebody else, during that brief intimate moment… before being released, & Henry is alone again.

Viola Falkenstein

The book is absolutely wonderful. A lot more nuanced, very witty and so romantic. The emails play a bigger part in their relationship, they're quite funny, sweet and have quotes from historical love letters in them. Also the US are portrayed in a more believable way - it's not a singe jealous reporter who betrayed and outed them but the political opponents who planned the whole scandal and had Alex followed. Anyway the book is really lovely and so is the audio-book ;)

Gavin Best

I LOVE the tiniest snippets of scenes 🎬 that we are given with Henry interacting & unconsciously bonding with Alex’s father, Oscar. Oscar joking with Henry over the “call me Congressman/Your Royal Highness”… Oscar watching (and possibly advising) Henry with his soccer ⚽️ skills… to promising to get him enrolled in a college to properly learn about US politics & the voting 🗳️ system. With Henry’s own father gone, this unexpected bonding is particularly heartwarming.

Gavin Best

I REALLY LOVE the story-arc between Alex & Zahra as well. Zahra’s tough-love balanced nicely with his parent’s gentler approaches… making sure Alex was NOT spoilt or pampered under HER watch! And even after she lit 🔥 & burnt A & H in the Washington hotel discovery scene 🎬… by the end, Zahra demonstrated that she gave out praise when it was due (ie. after Alex’s White House conference speech), & was even willing to wrangle a phone call 📱between those two “moping homosexuals” by bribing Shaan with her naked body! 😆

I absolutely adore the audiobook. I listen to bits and pieces of it all the time.

As a pansexual female in her 40s, for me it wasn’t really about acknowledging my attraction to the same sex (and then acknowledging my attraction to just people in general). It was about letting others know and having to “prove” that it was not “just a phase” or being asked “were you just drunk and playing around?” Unfortunately being in high and college in the 90s, bisexuality was seen more as a “phase” thing - at least where I was. And when I married a man? Goodness gracious the “oh I knew you were not really into women” statements I got were just insane. Yes, I found my life partner in a male person but that does not negate my love I experienced and attraction I still have for people regardless of gender or orientation. I guess all my rambling is to say that some people accept, acknowledge or even become aware of their bisexuality or pansexuality easily and some take more time. I am sure ace and aro have various experiences but since I do not identify as that, I cannot speak for them.

MissIrene

Great video, guys! I saw someone commenting on the cameos from news anchors Joy Reed and Rachel Maddow. I squealed when Maddow came on screen, because I have been watching her for years!! Also, that's another good point of representation as she is an out lesbian (and one of the sharpest minds on telly!)

Jacqueline Hahn

Oh God! Josh, your deadpan reaction to Alex getting a bit hot and bothered by the scene after the Prime Minister's ball will never not be one of the funniest things I've watched! "Do you need a tissue....? A bib perhaps?" I'm in bits! Great video guys. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Michelle Barry

I love you deemed him Harry instead of Henry 😂

Robyn Dwyer

this is the most British they've ever been

Anonymous

I've watched this 4 times now and everytime I pick up on different comments and fine myself laughing to myself every time. This film is my new favourite! Loved the book and audiobook too

Annika Gestrin Lindelöf

Yay!!! Thank you for this!! Watched it again for the 3rd time with my friend this weekend. But can watch again with you. 😁😍

Reem

Anyone noticed how Henry is always the one who helps Alex with his anxiety? It’s sweet. During the suspected shooting at the hospital Henry could see Alex was freaking out and cut the tension by talking about the cologne. Then during the Texas campaign he emails him and comforts him about the imposter syndrome and during the elections he changes the subject by talking about the yellow tie. Love it 😍.

Reem

I’ve watched this film an embarrassing amount of times haha

Anonymous

Me too! The film alone probably 5 times, and this reaction about 4. Just can't get enough! It's my Roman Empire 😂😂

Reem

Aww did you not watch until after the credits? The little skit with the cake is funny.

Gina Lipkin

They were seen, they were heard, a speech and film to unite one and all sharing this one planet, loved this film

Gina Lipkin

True, you cannot miss a second of this film and sometimes you forgot to pause more and we don't want to miss any of it, try not to talk over the action, pretty please and thank you

Melissa M Shapiro

Just finished watching with you and of course it was my favorite re-watch yet. I laughed out loud and so loud all by myself and you elicited tears of laughter. I realize it's been 4 months since you made the video, and surely by now you know all of the answers, but I yelled, helpfully (into the abyss) whenever you asked for an assist and clarification. Love this first watch on my patreon account...lucky me for gifting it to myself for the Holidays. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas...it's early morning there ... hope it will be a magical day 🥰🥰

This is my favorite reaction so far. Love this movie. I just love watching you two. Your videos get me through my work days. I work remote, so it gets pretty boring. Laughing along with your videos makes it better. I’m new to Patreon, so I’m making my way through all of your videos. Love you guys!!!😂😂❤️❤️

You're both hilarious. After watching your reaction on Youtube I just had to subscribe over here and watch the uncut version. Loving all the other reactions but this one is my favoutite!

Grant Youngblood

Excellent reaction video! Please illuminate us with more info about how attending an English boarding school prepares one for gay sex!! LOL

Grant Youngblood

Also, FWIW, if Alex really did manage to register a million new voters and flip TEXAS from red to blue, he would immediately become the hottest political consultant in the country. EVERYONE and their brother and their dog would be after him to run their campaign.

Dawn Johnson

I rewatched your reaction again. You two are a delight.

Matthew Binczek

How many times am I going to watch you watch this movie? 🍿 haha 💜 it’s been more than a few times now. I’ve also re-watched heartstopper with you many times 🤷‍♂️ It’s like watching something I love with good friends ☺️

Master Baker

Greetings Matthew. While I've watched the Youtube reactions from ASWT, I just finished the unedited version, and will watch it again

Alex’s speech is the most powerful statement have ever seen in movies. I wish that one day would not be needed- that’s the second part of the speech- falling in love with a person whoever one will be. That’s in long haul probably never happening. Love the movie and seen it hundreds of times.
