Apologies if this was discussed in older episodes, but what language did Napoleon prefer to speak in private, as an adult? I know he adopted something of a French identity once they were exiled from Corsica, but I've seen notes stating his French was accented, and that he had trouble spelling sometimes. Did anyone ever note that he preferred to use Corsican/Italian in more informal situations?

Having just listened to the latest episode, I’d love to hear your personal opinion of Talleyrand. Was he really doing what he thought best for France, scheme after scheme? Or did “what’s best for France” really just mean “what’s best for Talleyrand?”
