Queen of Spiders
A few minutes after Rilfana left to scout.
"I'm back."
"Rilfana-chan, you're early."
"Yes, I just saw her from a distance, but it looked like the Spider Queen was there, so I came right back."
"...Worst."
Reda-san sighed.
"Since Alphos and the others aren't here, let me ask you, can Mina-chan and the others defeat her?"
I could see the seriousness in Reda-san's eyes as he asked the question. I had a feeling that Reda-san had a rough idea of how strong we were, which was unusual for newcomers.
We decided that since we were going to be adventurers anyway, there was no need to fool around with the village's predicament.
"Hmm, what about the surrounding enemies?"
"I don't think there's much in the surrounding forest, probably due to the earlier battle. There was an open area that looked like collapsed ruins, though there were two Demon Spiders that seemed to be escorting us."
"You mean there are no Poison Spider Poison and Giant Spider Huge?"
"Not zero, but a few. I also saw many threads that, I think, are wrapping the eggs."
I wonder if the Demon Spider Demons are in the way, although I might be able to handle one.
"I was curious about the Spider Queen, the Spider Queen, who hardly moves at all. Maybe she's injured or something. I also thought it was small."
"If I stop one of the Demon Spider Demons, will that work?"
If the Spider Queen is indeed unable to move due to injury or some other reason, it would be a good chance. She seems to be small, and it may be before the web is established, after all.
Also, spiders are said to increase in a short time, so if we have a rematch tomorrow or something, we may have to kill them from the small fry again.
It would be easier if Demon Spider would sleep, but it depends on Reda-san's level and luck.
If Reda-san fails to stall, Claire will be in danger.
Should we just send Claire back to Alphos-san and the others?
"Big Sister, I'll fight too."
Claire squeezes her cane with both hands with a determined look on her face.
I guess I've been discovered with just a glimpse; I can't hide anything from Claire, can I?
"Hmmm, Claire-sama is very determined, isn't she?"
I also know that if we protect her and keep her in a safe zone, she will never become a strong adventurer, even if she gains a higher level.
If push comes to shove, I think we can use Agility Up and Power Up to carry them away, and we can try to see how far we can go here.
"All right, let's give it a try. How many kinds of spells can Reda-san use?
"Most of the famous ones, but only Slumber Song and Battle Song can be used for duets.
Reda-san has given the name "duet" to the double chanting of the incantations.
Battle Song is a song that inspires one's companions, greatly increasing their attack power and slightly increasing their other stats.
"Rilfana can defeat the Demon Spider Demon if she uses Sakurabana, right?"
"Yes, as long as it doesn't get in the way. There are other ways to attack."
"Well, I'll leave one of them to Rilfana, and Claire, after buffing it with the enhancement magic, stand by and use the Explosion Explosion to stop it when Rilfana attacks," said Rilfana.
"Ok!"
Thus, the strategy was set in motion.
◇◇◇
"Then we'll go with that."
It may not sound like a strategy, but we had created some action patterns for possible scenarios. By sharing this information, it is easy to cope with unexpected enemy actions without being in a hurry.
There is a high possibility of a prolonged battle.
I hold the sword I was using earlier in my hand and hang the two new ones on my waist. They are a little heavy, but this much will be manageable with the reinforcement buffs.
Reda-san starts singing Slumber Song at the same time as the lute plays Song of Control. He steps and takes on the Demon Spider on the right.
Stepping would be a skill called "Tap Dance" that increases the evasion rate. The steps are not very dance-like, though it is clear that he is stepping rhythmically.
If they were really tap dancing, how could they avoid it?
The Song of Dance is a song that increases footwork skill, movement speed, and evasion rate.
Rilfana and I, who had already been buffed with magic enhancements, run with weapons in hand. I moved to the Queen Spider and Rilfana moved to the Demon Spider on my left. The three remaining Huge Spider Huge Spiders seem to have been put to sleep by the effects of Reda-san's spell song, and they do not move at all.
It would have been easier if even one of the Demon Spiders had fallen asleep, but it was not so easy.
Reda-san was just trying to avoid Rilfana until Rilfana rushed to the scene.
Claire's main job was to assist Rilfana.
Claire is mainly to assist Rilfana, and I am to be Queen's partner until the two of them defeat Demon Spider.
I'm going to be the Queen's partner until the two Demon Spiders are defeated.
◇◇◇
Spider Queen is a monster that looks like a spider with a woman's upper body. She is covered with a black shell up to her chest, like a jet-black dress. The size of the spider is about my height, which makes me feel quite small.
It was not bleeding, but there were scars all over its body that were not completely healed, and the fact that it did not move much indicated that it had been undergoing medical treatment.
It may be too weak to move, though it is threatening to raise its body when we approach it.
We could see Rilfana fighting with her double-chanting magic, and Reda-san seemed to have managed to avoid them.
"Ice Sword".
It occurred to me while looking at Mirell-san's "Ice Refining" that water and ice are different attributes in this world.
The thin ice clings to the sword I am holding and is covered with white cold air.
This white cold air is probably due to the difference from the outside temperature. Even though it was the end of autumn, the temperature was still high enough to make me sweat if I moved around.
The ironclad rule is to break down from the feet up.
Reda-san's slash with his moving speed, which is accompanied by his song, is sharper than usual.
The queen tried to retreat and dodge, but perhaps her reactions were blunted by the injury, or perhaps the flash of the sword grazed her.
Shaaaaaaaaaaa
Unlike ordinary spiders, the Queen seems to emit a high-pitched, unusual voice.
However, it did not seem to be taking much damage.
Is it difficult to solo against a high-level opponent? I knew that Mage Warriors don't have firepower, but I guess I'll have to wait for Rilfana.
◇◇◇
"Ice Needle."
"Fireball."
Rilfana pushes with double-chanting magic from her unarmed left hand.
The Demon Spider is prevented to play with its front legs. The thick paws could be used as a shield if used well.
"Ice Needle".
"Fireball".
In a circular motion, the icicles and fireballs that circle around the Demon Spider strike it, but are similarly blocked.
In that small amount of time, it also remembers to take out a sleeping mooks spider in passing with a single strike.
"Ice Needle".
"Fireball."
We are well over half a lap away from the initial movement.
The Demon Spider repels the magic released at the same intervals as well, and the gaps in its defense are decreasing as it becomes accustomed to the same attacks.
"Stone Bullet".
"Wind Blade".
Rilfana instantly judged and shifted the timing and magic to be used.
Just as he was returning after circling the spider.
Multiple stone gravel crushes hit its forelegs with gasps, and the wind blade slammed into it.
Demon Spider's previous tempo was now broken, leaving a large gap after defending itself.
"Claire-sama!"
"Yeah! Explosion!"
Same as before, Explosion to the face.
Giggity giggity giggity.
Rilfana closes in on the Demon Spider, who was backed up by an explosion.
The spider hung its foot on the thick center of the front leg, which it was using for defense, and used it as a foothold for further bouncing. In his left hand, he already held a dagger.
"'Ura-Shurano-Kenka-dai'".
He pushed the short sword and dagger into the middle of the torso, using the gravity of the fall to cut through the Demon Spider with a lean movement reminiscent of a sword fight.
Right, left, right.
Right, left, right. Right, left, right.
Each creature has its own breathing pattern. The beat of this breath unconsciously governs the timing of all attacks, defenses, and evasions. It is extremely difficult for even a master to read this intricate beat, and it would be impossible to read it all.
Reda instantly analyzes and judges the sound movement, and connects it to the technique of "ducking.
It was not so difficult for Reda to just duck and evade. Her small body was also a boon.
See, it's getting faster and faster. It's time to throw a tantrum about not hitting this rhythm.
But the simpler the creature, the more the timing remains the same. You can't change it.
--The sense of rhythm.
The only advantage Reda was born with. Who was it that discovered it?
Right, left, right. Just get into the rhythm and just lose. A simple rhythm, no different from everyday life.
Alone, it is just a thousand hands. The enemy's attack can't hit us, but we can't attack them either.
"Well, now we have a newcomer to rely on, don't we?"
Rilfana has defeated the small fry spiders around her. No need to sing anymore, just a casual murmur.
-I wonder how long it's been since I started riding the rhythm.
Just as I thought that.
"Next, let's go!"
Rilfana came into the rhythm of a thousand hands that Reda had created.
"You're really good at getting the groove at first sight, aren't you?"
Reda smiled in praise, but did not break the rhythm.
Rilfana on the left and Reda on the right, their gazes locked, no need to waste words, as the spider flanked them.
"Explosion!"
"'Rain Slash'!"
--The rhythm is over.
"If only I had friends who could move like this back then.... No, it's useless to think about it now."
Reda's mutterings faded into the forest, unheard by anyone.
◇◇◇
Hmmm, this is not good.
It is not difficult to avoid the Spider Queen's attacks, and she is in a very comfortable position.
Apparently, she is also inexperienced as a Queen, or perhaps due to her injuries, she only aims her attacks with her front legs, just like any other spider.
The problem is that most of our attacks don't go through. As a result of continually attacking the same leg, the left front leg is frozen.
It appears that the magic sword can inflict not only attribute damage but also abnormalities. I don't know if I didn't notice it because I had cut it off with almost a single blow before, or if it was because my awareness of magic swords has changed thanks to the ice Sword.
Glancing around to steal a glance, I see that Rilfana has killed one and is rushing toward Reda-san.
I guess it's still going to take a little longer...
Should I have brought out the magic sword with INT intelligence boosting effect that was given to me in the dungeon search? I felt it would be a waste to break it with a magic sword, so I left it at home this time.
What should I do to increase my firepower? The quickest way would be to use a two-handed sword, and I would have to use a two-handed sword to avoid the ducking of the Queen's forelegs.
I glanced at the sword on her waist, which is a one-handed sword. He swings his right-hand sword to deal more damage to the frozen leg.
Can't a two-handed sword be lowered to the waist in the first place? I wonder if a one-handed half-sword bastard sword is also possible.
The right-hand sword is used to parry Queen's attack. Queen's human eyes change to hateful ones.
Come to think of it, I haven't ended up practicing the round shield that I bought to try using. The paws are...wobbling, so I can't hit this one. I ignore it and apply the attack.
"Mina-sama!"
"No matter what kind of enemy it is, I can strike it down..."
Demon Spider seems to have cleared up, Rilfana joins him, and Reda-san's singing, which had stopped at some point, resumes. The song he is singing seems to be Battle Song.
"Oh no, the shell is too hard. I thought I could make it if I could get the debuffs on it, but it's still tough as it is."
"We should just blow it away."
I don't remember ninjas having such skills.
If we had ninja gear, we could have Claire-sama blow it up.
"I don't know how much magic Claire is shooting at, but I think it's a little underpowered for an explosion exploding at the same scale.
The two of us fight and formulate a strategy. He also says that the Queen's armor is too difficult to handle, more so than he expected.
"Then let's push hard."
Rilfana puts away her dagger and brings up her crossbow and steps back. As usual, I don't know where he's putting everything but the dagger away.
"'Fire Shot."
A thick quarelle arrow fired at the humanoid part of the Queen, at the heart, pierced it. The sound of burning flesh can be heard from the high heat of the arrowhead.
Shaaaaaah.
The burned Queen began to thrash about with a different kind of pain than before. She just randomly stomped on the ground with all her feet.
I avoided the rampaging Queen's attacks, and persistently slashed at her frozen feet.
Finally, the frozen foot cracked and shattered.
The queen loses her balance because of her missing leg and leans back.
"Ice Shot"
Rilfana's second shot was another thick arrow quarelle pierced through almost the same position. Fluffy white cold air spread.
"Claire-sama!"
"Explosion!"
An explosion occurs in the Queen's chest.
The rapid 2-degree temperature change makes the shell less durable and brittle.
Unable to withstand the explosive pressure of the Explosion, the cracked shell section caused by the attacks was blown off.
Not wanting to miss his chance, he leaps into the body, which is tilted backward, aiming at the heart.
He thrust the ice sword easily into the chest where the armor was gone.
He knew by his senses that this sword could no longer withstand the magic of the magic sword, so he let go of the hilt and landed on his feet.
He adjusts his stance and pulls the spare sword at his waist from its scabbard.
The queen's body shook limply, and she looked up to the heavens for a moment before falling.
"I could have knocked her down..."
It wasn't difficult to duck, and I thought I had enough time because I was able to fight while thinking of unnecessary things.
However, I was probably mentally fatigued from facing the boss that I could not defeat for a long time.
I felt light-headed and sat down on the spot.
I looked back and saw Rilfana standing there, her maid's uniform cut in several places and stained with blood, as if she had been hit by one of the several attacks that had forced the Demon Spider's down in such a short period of time.
"Event cleared. ...I guess you could say that."
Rilfana smiled and sat down beside me.
Rilfana's firepower and Claire's explosion saved the day.
I was glad I didn't send Claire back to Alphos-san.
It's difficult to be a magic warrior without firepower when it comes to reality.
