Explore - North Forest

In the evening, my father and Leda-san came home. They are going to have dinner at home.

The Wolf meat we got and the Killer Rabbit meat that the Neighborhood Watch brought are each a part of the meal.

"Jetta-san, you've improved your skills!"

"It was Mina who made that. I got the recipe from somewhere recently."

"Wow."

Mom tried to make a simmered dish with soy sauce. It's like a meatless potato and vegetable stew. It was delicious and well seasoned.

Since we came back from the city, Mom has made at least one dish with soy sauce at every meal. She seems to like soy sauce.

"Well, but if Killer Rabbit is out there, we'll have to investigate, won't we?"

"Mm. You're not calling in any adventurers?"

"Well, the B Rank and above are just about all out. I've told the staff to send someone over here if they come, so maybe someone will show up soon? Well, I'll check on them for a few days."

"Well, are you going to investigate the Guild Master himself?"

"I'm usually holed up in the guild, but I'm getting tired of it. I'm usually holed up in the guild, but I got tired of it and didn't have the manpower to come, so I came. Heh."

I wonder if that's all it takes. Is that all right?

"Well, our staff is competent, so we can do whatever we want. I don't need to call you "Guild Master", I can call you "Leda". I'll call you Mina-chan, too."

"Yes, yes. I understand, Leda-san."

The Guild Master of Guardia is a friendlier person than I expected. He looks no older than 10, but I wonder how old he really is. He doesn't even look like a dwarf.

"Mother-in-law, it is delicious as it is, but I think it will be even better if you cook it with some meat!"

"Yes, let's try it next time."

It's just like Rilfana, a meat lover. Well, there's no doubt it's delicious because it's a meat stew.

"...I'd like to ask Mina-chan and the others to help me with the investigation."

"Isn't that a bit risky? I don't care how strong they are, they've only just registered."

"Of course, we won't ask them to go that deep into the forest. Of course, we don't want them to go that deep into the forest. It seems that monsters are fleeing from the southern forest to the northern forest, so we want to investigate what kind of monsters are migrating there."

"So we can estimate the threat level of the southern forest based on the type of monsters that have moved to the northern forest?"

"Correct! So far all we know is that the Killer Rabbit is a bigger threat than the Forest Bear, and we need more manpower."

"Okay, the three of us will take care of it, right?"

"Yes!"

If we act carefully, it will be a good experience for us as adventurers.

"If we accept the request as adventurers, does that mean we will be paid?"

"Rilfana-chan?"

"Even if it is for the sake of the village, you should get paid, right? If people think that they can ask us to do anything for free, it will be a problem for us."

"Ummm..."

Claire would be willing to work for free for the sake of the village. I had never thought of remuneration either, since I was only a part of the family, but Rilfana was right. My father nodded.

"Well, you've got to be ready for anything," he said. How about a silver coin per person per day, even if nothing is found, and if we find something, we'll pay you on top of that?"

"I'll take you up on that."

Rilfana wanted to receive a reward, even if it was not much. Perhaps she also wanted to earn money to be freed from slavery in five years at the earliest.

I will not stop Rilfana if she wants to be emancipated after 5 years, and I will divide the remuneration equally, except for the necessary expenses.

Although I have only known Rilfana for about a week, I feel lonely when I imagine that day.... After I am freed from slavery, we may work together if Rilfana agrees.

"If it's okay with you two, it's okay with me too."

"Then that's what I'm asking you to do. I'll ask you to do that, at least as far as you can get back in a day, and you don't have to go too far."

""Yes!""

Tomorrow we will start exploring the north forest.

"What kind of monsters are there in the north forest?"

After eating dinner and taking a bath, I decided to have a brief meeting with Claire and Rilfana.

"Hmmm, originally there were very few of them. If you go far north, you will hit a road in the forest that stretches from the town of Guardia to the east-northeast, and up to that area, there are a lot of ordinary rabbits, deer, and other animals, but no monsters. My dad told me that there are monsters north of the road, but I think the only thing I've heard is that there are stronger wolves than in this area."

"So you can report that something is out of the ordinary when you see it, right?"

"That's right. In the southern forest, there are many wolves, forest bears, and a little deeper into the forest, there are many bat and spider type monsters. I've heard that the forest itself hasn't been fully explored because it's quite large."

"Big Sister, is it in the illustrated book?"

Claire opens the illustrated book and checks it.

"I haven't actually seen it, but from what I've heard, it's supposed to be [Large Bats] and [Poison Spiders]."

He flips through the pages to check.

In SeveChro, both monsters are level 15 or so, so they are not strong, although Poison Spider is a bit dangerous because it has poison in its name.

The level of each demon is not indicated in the picture book, but the resistance, weak points, and special attacks are briefly described, which is more useful than I expected.

"Can you use healing or antidote magic?"

"If it's antidote, the Sister taught it to me. I haven't actually used it on a poisoned person yet."

"Then it should be fine."

"It doesn't seem to be very toxic, but I'd like to at least have some antidote ready, just in case. I think I can make an infusion of it."

Rilfana opened the [Wildflowers] book.

"Oh, I've seen this grass in the north forest."

Claire pointed to the medicinal herbs depicted in the illustrated book.

"Well, let's explore while collecting medicinal herbs."

"Can you tell me all the medicinal herbs you've seen around here?"

"Yes!"

I don't remember all the weeds around here, so I decided to leave it to Claire and Rilfana.

--The next morning.

My father went out to the south forest with Leda-san early in the morning.

He told me that he had received a request from the Guild Master and that I didn't have to help him today, but he was too busy to do anything, so I decided to finish watering the fields before I went out.

In the meantime, Mom had made lunch for me.

"I think I saw a lot of them growing around here."

The place where Claire led the way was my secret base, Hirubasho.

The area where the magic circle of transmigration is located is sunny and thick with many wildflowers. Apparently, these include medicinal herbs.

"How can we recognize them?"

I felt uncomfortable doing nothing as I watched the two of them begin to impatiently pick medicinal herbs.

"If the leaves are pointed and have short white hairs on the underside, it's a medicinal herb called yoginamo. It's sometimes eaten in hot pots and other dishes."

"These long, thin leaves with peach-colored flowers are aro leaves, Big Sister."

"This one?"

"Yes, that's Aloe Leaf. They are a little sticky when you squeeze them, but you can put them on wounds or put them in tea and drink them."

I pulled out a leaf and looked at it closely. It is a thin leaf, but its length, shape, and use are similar to aloe. It also has a similar name.

After the three of us had collected the herbs for a while, we had about one sachet of each type.

I collected the two leaves I was told, but two of them were also collecting other medicinal herbs, so there were about four bags of herbs.

"That should be enough. I'll make an infusion later."

"Yes, please do."

I didn't know how to do it, so if there was anything I could do to help, I would help.

But I didn't realize that there were so many medicinal herbs growing in a place where I usually just took a nap.

"There are a lot of different grasses growing only in this area, Rilfana-chan."

"I can feel the clear magic power, so maybe there is some kind of blessing."

They say there's some kind of magical influence or something. Indeed, it is very pleasant to take a nap around here. It is a good sleep. A child who sleeps grows up. I guess that's how it is.

"Maybe not, Big Sister."

Claire read what I was thinking. It's frustrating.

Rilfana didn't seem to understand as she nodded her head at what Claire was saying. I guess that's normal.

We have time today and I brought lunch that my mom made.

The three of us decided to go a little further in.

Of course, it's only a day trip away, but if we go straight, we can get to the road east of the town of Guardia.

If there was nothing new, we could go to the road and come back.

We decided to go straight north for a few hours.

Forest Bear is a very low-aggressive monster, so we ignored it unless it attacked us.

I dismantle the Killer Rabbit and bury the remaining unwanted parts so they don't spread the smell.

The sun is also shining almost directly overhead, visible through the trees, so it must be lunchtime.

"I think we'll be on the street soon, so let's have lunch there."

"Yes."

"Okay."

The road is safer than the forest, where the trees and tall grasses and flowers leave many blind spots. It would be even better if there were stone pillars to ward off monsters.

Lunch was an assortment of cobbler buns with fillings.

There was also one with barbecued meat with leafy greens underneath, which was probably prepared by my mother for Rilfana who loves meat.

I've never seen my mother make this before...
