Inn - Restaurant

I decided to go to the inn I was introduced to by the receptionist at the Adventurer's Guild.

"It was the one at the west gate, wasn't it?"

"You said the inn was the first one you saw on your left."

The bell rang at 2:00 p.m. and more people were coming home.

Of course, Claire, who only knew the village, was not used to walking through crowds and was almost falling behind.

"Claire-sama, this way, please."

"Oh, thank you."

In contrast, Rilfana seemed to be used to it and took Claire's hand and started walking with her. I took Rilfana under my wing, but I'm glad to see that she gets along with Claire as well. Her tone of voice seemed to have almost returned to normal from around the Adventurers' Guild.

She is definitely a young lady from somewhere. Her movements seem more elegant than mine, the master of the guild.

The inn we were introduced to at the guild was a sturdy reddish-brown brick structure five stories high, facing the main street. Through the windows facing the sidewalk, I could see that it had a lobby and a restaurant for dining. Looking around the street, one could see many wooden and mud-walled buildings on South Street, while brick buildings were more numerous on Central Square and West Street. They seem to be sturdier or taller.

"Welcome, are you here to lodge? You can also just have a meal."

At the front desk, a woman in clean, comfortable clothing was at the reception desk. The woman working at the restaurant was also dressed in the same attire.

"Do you have a room for three available?"

"Yes, we have rooms available. One large silver coin and five small silver coins per room, breakfast included."

"That's fine, two nights, please."

"Then, please fill out the form for the representative. Do you want me to write it for you?"

I reject the offer and write down my name in the writing pad on the counter table, and pay three large silver coins from my hand. Mom said we could stay here for three or four nights, and if we didn't get around town enough, we could extend our stay.

"I'll give you the keys to the rooms. Um, the room for three will be at the back of the third floor. When you leave the inn, please stop by here, so we can take your key."

Breakfast is said to be prepared in the dining restaurant on the first floor if you show them your room key. Dinner will be served separately at the restaurant. If dinner is not included in the room rate, it would be fine to go eat somewhere else tomorrow.

When we entered the restaurant, there were tables for two, four, and six people in a row. It was dinner time, and about 70% of the seats seemed to be occupied. The waitresses are walking around among the tables busily.

"Please take the seat of your choice."

The waitress called out to us as we entered the restaurant.

Claire and I sit across from each other at a table for four. There was a menu on the table, and the system seemed to be the same as in Japan.

"Please sit down, Rilfana. It's embarrassing to stand out."

"Okay!"

I let Rilfana sit next to me, who had been standing there, not wanting to sit down, perhaps because of her slave status. I was relieved that she sat down. I'd like to have a normal friendship with Rilfana as much as possible, although there may be a "slave collar bracelet" involved.

"It's a good thing I studied my letters."

Claire is wondering what to order when she opens the menu.

The literacy rate in town seems to be higher than I expected, as evidenced by the presence of a bookstore. Each menu has a detailed picture on it, so that even if you can't read, you can still order.

"It's a very modern restaurant, but the prices are also very cheap."

As Rilfana and I looked at the menu, which included many Italian-style dishes, Rilfana was surprised at the contents.

The town of Gardia relies on surrounding villages for livestock, grains, and vegetables, but there are many kinds of meat dishes, including cows, pigs, chickens, and rabbits.

In this world, monster meat is also commonly eaten, and some of it is delicious, but this restaurant seemed to offer very little of it.

Perhaps because the town of Gardia is close to a river, river fish and small crabs were also on the menu.

Turota, fiumeluccio, correntegracchi, and so on, though I couldn't understand what they were, except that they were fish and crabs, thanks to the pictures.

I can eat as many vegetables as I want back in the village, and I'd like to avoid fish dishes I don't understand, so I'd prefer a robust meat dish?

"Oh, they use vegetables from Feld Village. You know, Big sis."

"Oh, really."

I'm glad they're using local vegetables, but I also feel like if we're going to eat in town, the vegetables can wait...

"Feld Village?"

"It's our village. Rilfana will be living with us in the village for a while, since she will be an adventurer after she comes of age."

"I'm looking forward to living in the village!"

Rilfana had never lived in a village before.

I'm sure she'll get tired of it soon...no, that's not the point.

"I'm thinking about the chicken in tomato sauce..."

"Ugh, I don't know."

Claire was the type of person who couldn't decide on a menu right away.

"Rilfana, you can order whatever you want too!"

"Then I'll have this tomato sauce pizza."

"I was wondering about that too. Mmmm."

"If it's okay with you, Claire, we could order different pizzas and split it in half."

"Oh, let's do that! I'll have the one called Voldona."

Rilfana, what a suggestion! I was wondering if I should also order a pizza to share.

"I'll have a pizza too, we'll share!"

"Un!"

"Yes!"

Normally, pizzas are meant to be eaten alone and pizzas are meant to be shared, but this is a different world, so it doesn't matter.

I ordered the arroyo pizza. It is a pizza made with tomato paste, arrillo, bacon, spices, and cheese.

Aryo means garlic. Garlic in this world does not leave a strong smell, so it is easy to eat any time of the day.

"Here you go!"

After waiting for a while for our order, the waitress brought the pizza and drinks we had ordered.

Rilfana ordered what is commonly known as a margherita. It is a classic pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, and basil on top. Here, they also put slices of tomato on top.

Claire ordered the Voldona, which seems to be topped mainly with ham made from aged beef marinated in red wine and leafy greens such as carrera.

Pizzas are often shared among friends, it seemed, so they also provided us with a plate to take away. All the pizzas were freshly baked and looked delicious.

"Delicious!"

I haven't had such delicious food in a long time.

I took a bite from the pizza I had ordered.

The aroma of arroyo garlic spreads in my mouth, and the edges of the freshly baked dough are crispy. The sour taste of the tomato sauce, the refreshing spices and flavors spread out, and the saltiness of the bacon mixed in nicely. The flavor is strong, but not boring.

It wasn't Rilfana, but it was like eating Japanese food for the first time in a long time.

It's not that my mother's food in Feld Village is bad, but it's just that most of the dishes are simple, probably because they are seasoned with salt. If there was soy sauce, it would broaden the flavor, and I think it might exist in this world, so I might try to find it.

Pizza with tomato sauce is a simple, classic dish with just fresh tomatoes, basil, and cheese, but it is also very flavorful with its reassuring, classic taste. The tomato slices are moist, so the dough is baked a little tougher than usual, which makes the whole dish chewy.

The pizza, called Voldona, is accented with red wine-aged ham. It was a perfect match for the crunchy leafy greens.

"It was delicious, but"

"I ate too much..."

"Ugh, I'm so full I don't want to move."

One person's portion of pizza was more than I expected. The price was two small silver coins for this much food, which according to Rilfana's knowledge could have been three times as much.

As I would later learn, Solgeplante is a few steps ahead in researching food processing and preservation methods, and the main reason for this is that it is less expensive to transport and process than in other countries.

Rubbing our somewhat flabby bellies, the three of us climbed the stairs, still feeling satisfied.
