Chapter 29 The Power of Numbers

Hello, I'm Cozette.

My instructor has given me permission to try and lead the Slimes to the cave.

"Come on, go."

Under my direction, the separated Earth Slimes rushed into the cave that I assumed was Goblin's nest.

With their enhanced <Movement> skills, the Slimes were sliding along at a moderate speed.

Without a sound, they simply became a muddy stream that devoured everything in its path.

Aha.

Numbers are power. Everything is meaningless in the face of power.

The current Slime is a symbol of this.

There were still a lot of Goblins inside.

They seemed to be in a panic.

It's very useful to know what's going on with Slimes. I can see their behavior as if it were in my hands.

They panic, they run, they confront, they scream, they open their eyes.

I wonder what they think at the end.

But please die.

The mother, the father, the child, the baby.

Please die without distinction.

Death to all Goblins.

If you have a grudge, please curse my family for educating us that way, and please curse yourselves for being born in this domain.

If we leave them here, the next wave of damage will surely be on the refugees without walls.

Where did you get that dagger?

What kind of meat is that?

Oh, oh. I see.

As you have learned, we are incompatible.

So be it.

I, Cozette Izfield, must not allow you to exist.

And.

And not only that.

Curse me, too, for rejoicing that this will make my Slimes strong again.

That is all you are allowed to do.

I let the Slimes swallow some Goblin and understood.

Demons are delicious.

Slime whispers to me, and I rejoice.

More power, more prey.

Every step of the way, corner to corner. The small beings that have specialized in increasing in number, making no noise and having no power, appeal to me.

They want to become a single will with power and swallow up all the others.

Since coming to the forest, or to be more precise, since absorbing the Goblins, the Slimes have been doing very well.

It's as if they've made up for something that was missing.

That's a good thing.

Initially, I thought that I would have to make do with 10,000 Slimes, but I was wrong.

Simply put, numbers are power. With their numbers, they can easily crush the Goblins with their weight.

Now eat.

Since I have been given the ability to be a <Slime Master>, I will accept the way they are.

The change came when I walked into a little square.

Suddenly, a Slime was burned and exploded.

It's funny how they pop. Now about a hundred of them have been killed.

Aren't they too weak?

It's okay, though.

It was a Goblin priest-like demon. I think it's a Goblin Shaman, and I heard it uses magic.

If so, it's fire magic.

Earth Slime is hard, and I've already confirmed that Goblins can't do anything about them, but they don't seem to have any resistance to magic.

--The fireball had burned quite a few of them. It's not that they were burned, it's just that they popped.

Well, that doesn't really matter, though.

Please go.

I'm just going to let Slime and the others charge in. Even if they're weak against magic, they won't be able to cast magic forever, and there's still time before they can cast it again.

I'm not practicing magic at all.

...I don't know when I'll be able to handle magic. However, I won't give up.

The Slimes rushed towards the Goblin Shaman, who is standing still as it finishes casting his spell.

But they can't reach him.

An intervening being swung its club with a mighty swing and sent the Slimes flying.

What was there was a Goblin that was a size larger than a normal Goblin.

Hmm.

Slime and the others were blown away by wind pressure alone. What a power. Or is that a skill? It's okay.

While they were being blown away, Shaman seems to have completed his preparations, and they are being burned in a big way.

They try to get close to it, get burned, try to get close to it again, get burned....

There was no end to it.

However, there is nothing else they can do.

Do I try to do as much as I can to make up for it? I have my instructor, so if that's not possible, I'll rely on her.

I'll also throw in some green. If we're going to be defeated anyway, let's preserve the earth that's useful in battle and throw in some greens.

No need to stock up. It's the numbers, numbers.

Come on, let's go.

Let's see how long we can hold out.

And so the Goblin eradication is almost complete.

However, if we leave them alone again, Goblins will pop up out of nowhere. I'm not sure if it will ever come back.

I guess I'll leave some Slimes behind.

Now, to make up for the lost Slime... They were special, after all, and the Slimes seemed to have split up so fast that they easily exceeded the original number.

Hmm. I'm starting to get curious.

"How many are there now? Oh, I see, many."

I'll ask Chiyo-sama later.

Isn't it about time you spoke up? You can do that, can't you? It's too much trouble. I see.

I'm going to review the cave strategy this time while squeezing the white Slime.

It was a complete brute force effort. There may have been other ways, but.... Well, with my current strength, I guess this is what I can do.

"It's done."

I report to my instructor.

"I see."

"Yes."

"..."

"..."

I get a look like, "Is that it?" But I don't have anything else to say.

I just shoved the Slimes in there...

"Oh, there's a magician and a big one."

"Shaman and Hob, huh? Were you able to defeat them?"

"Yes, I stomped them with Slimes until they were exhausted."

"...I feel sorry for the Goblins."

Well, of course you do. I agree with you.

"I think I'll let the Slimes explore, see if they can find anything else?"

"Hmm, did you find anything that looks like a pantry?"

"No?"

"Can you see what Slime is seeing?"

"Yes."

What are you trying to say?

"If that's the case, I wouldn't feel very good about it. Wouldn't it be better if I were to change?"

--Ah.

"No, no problem. I have an idea of what to expect. Besides, I'm prepared to leave the house at the worst possible time. It would be a good opportunity."

"As you wish."

I really don't feel good about this.

In today's world, a few people can disappear and no one will notice.

So that's how it is.

Now I understand why people hate Goblins so much.

I think it's because they look half human, and that's why they are so disgusting.

--Oh.

When I came to that pantry and let them clean it, there was some resistance.

I thought it might be a Goblin hiding in there, but it doesn't look like it.

Is this a human child?

Hmm, I'm a child too. There's something wrong with it. No, you're more than a little upset about the situation you're "seeing".

Let's take a deep breath.

"It looks like there were survivors."

"Yeah, I suppose there could be."

Yes, it's possible. It's better to keep it that way.

I feel really bad.

I'll try to help you, though.

He could be a very valuable citizen.

"As you wish, my lady."

"Then I will enter."

"I'll lead the way."

Yes, thank you for the guidance.
