Blacksmithing - Preparation

The next morning, he finished his breakfast with a sandwich made by the innkeeper.

I also received a sandwich when I left the inn.

The Inn at Mineina did not sell packed lunches, so I paid extra to have a sandwich made for lunch. The filling of the sandwich was different from that of the morning.

Clare seemed to have received a blessing, so we decided to return to Gardia without setting up camp, just to test it out. If all goes well, we should be back around the 3pm chime.

If it looked like I wouldn't be able to make it on the way, I would camp at a suitable place.

"Okay, let's go back to Gardia!"

"Yes!"

From Mineina, I think it would be a bit closer to return to Feld Village through the forest than to Gardia.

This time, we would return to Gardia because we have a request to report, but it might be possible to go through Feld Village. In that case, the drawback would be that we would have to walk through the dark forest after sunset. I wouldn't get lost if we started walking along the river in the light of day, though.

Taking a break, we were able to return to Gardia without any problems.

By the time I entered the eastern gate, the sky had started to darken considerably, but there were streetlights on the town's streets, so it was bright.

I had to go to the guild to get the keys to the house, and I decided to report back to them while I was there.

"You're home late today. Oh, you've been to Mineina."

Today, the usual brother was at the purchase counter again.

I give him the Solge crystals for the request and ask him to register the completion of the request.

"Oh, good job!"

Afterward, I received four large silver coins as a reward and the key to the house at the request reception.

"Let's have dinner around here too, shall we?"

"Yes, it's difficult to cook after we get home."

"It's late, let's go over there."

I looked at West Street and saw that the lights were on at the 'Galdea Pavilion', so we decided to have dinner there.

It seemed to be more crowded a little later in the day, and most of the seats seemed to be occupied. There were many people in armor having a drink. The guild was close by, and many adventurers must have been using the restaurant.

I was tired after walking all the way today, so I decided to go to bed when I got home, and I plan to try blacksmithing tomorrow.

The sun was much higher when I woke up.

I must have slept late. I went to bed a little late and was probably tired from walking all day.

Clare and Rilfana brought the bed into my room, which is one of the reasons why I went to bed late.

It appears that they were already awake, and the beds beside them were empty.

"Good morning, sister."

As I was changing out of my nightgown, Clare came into the room.

"Reda-san is here."

"Hmm? What is it?"

I was going to ask him about the blacksmithing tools to be used in the basement, but I didn't expect him to come from the other side.

When I went downstairs, I found Reda-san drinking tea made by Rilfana.

"I heard from reception that you came back late yesterday, so I came to see you."

He didn't seem to have any particular business.

Rilfana made fried eggs for breakfast, and we discussed Mineina as we ate.

We would have to discuss tools, as there was no way she could forge underground without any normal provisions.

"God called you, huh? I met him once before, too."

It appears that it was a travelling god of medium rank who called Reda-san.

The god who liked Reda-san, who used to be a traveler, came to see him on a whim. It was said that, surprisingly, many middle-ranked deities come directly to this world.

The higher-ranking deities include those of the six attributes of light, darkness, fire, water, earth and wind, which were also enshrined in churches.

The gods of light and darkness, Tellnet-sama and Ikemen, are treated as higher deities and are sometimes referred to as the main deities.

Next in the middle ranks were the gods who are rooted in daily life and have many followers.

They were considered to be involved in almost all matters, such as politics, business, travel, alcohol and love.

The lower gods would be those with few believers.

Many anti-social gods, such as the god of theft, and gods lacking in specificity, such as the god of joy, have been established in the world of Virtuari.

Incidentally, in this world of Virtuari, God was counted as 'Pillars' by many church officials, while most people counted as 'People'.

These details were also set up in SeveChro.

The image was that church people and the religious perceive God as a 'pillar' that supports the world, while the public only consider him to be a person who watches over their lives.

"Heh, I've never heard of God even being given the tools he used himself. You can try it out, but don't burn the house down, okay?"

"I heard that the temperature doesn't leak out of that area, so I think it's safe."

"You're going to try it soon anyway, aren't you? I'll have a look around too."

Reda-san's curiosity seems to have been piqued. It was a rare thing, so I guess it was inevitable.

The front room of the underground pantry, whose walls had collapsed before. We decided to move the furniture in that room back to the other rooms and use that as a room for blacksmithing.

"I guess we can just throw everything in the warehouse for now."

Reda-san said, so we moved it to the warehouse in the other room. We just put it there randomly, so it would be cleaned up later.

In a room that had been cleared of furniture, we first deployed a cube-shaped portable furnace.

When the magic was put into it, it seems to sense that it was necessary to specify where it was to be deployed. When I make a conscious effort to place it at the edge, the cube leaves my hand and the contents gradually unfold.

"It's a proper arsenal of tools, isn't it?"

The furnace was built of brick-like material and was divided into two parts, one where the metal was melted and steel made, and the other about the size of a fire bed to heat the metal before it was struck. It also had a water tank for quenching to cool the blade.

The furnace on the steel-making side also had several dials.

It was clearly not shaped to fit into a palm-sized cube.

The furnace seemed to generate heat on its own due to magic power or something, but I could hardly feel the heat. The water in the tank also seemed to be pumped automatically.

The furnace was used by the gods, so there must be many strange things about it. There was no point in worrying about it.

I put the anvil, hammer and rasp that I had collected in a position that seemed easy to use.

When we were almost ready, we decided to try melting the petit cannon iron scraps as a trial.

When we were almost ready, we decided to try melting the petit cannon iron scraps as a trial.

And When I put the scrap iron into the furnace, it melted instantly with a sizzling sound. It is probably the effect of the portable furnace that it is not hot even if you are close to it.

After a while, the iron becomes a bar ingot and comes out through a hole in the bottom. I wondered where the excess went, but then many small grains were ejected broken. Should I just throw it away?

Iron has different properties depending on the proportion of impurities and carbon in it, but what will this be?

Well, it's one of those items that turns out to be too convenient just to be easily turned into bars.

"This is useful, but I'd better not tell anyone out there..."

Reda-san muttered as he picked up the ingot.

According to Reda-san, it is a Magic Item on the level of an ancient treasure artifact.

If it spread, he said, it would definitely have a high chance of being taken by the state or other countries.

"Oh my, it seems that only those who have been approved by Calfabro-sama can use this furnace?"

Rilfana said, turning the dial on the furnace with the manual from the bookshelf in her hand.

"Mina-sama, you can try putting in the cannon iron scraps again with this."

He puts in the iron scraps in the same way as before. After waiting for a while, a lump like a steel plate with a slightly grayish shine is produced than before.

"I think this is steel."

Steel is iron with less carbon in it, right?

I don't know much about its composition or how it's made, but I know it's suitable for making blades.

Reda-san was amused and put some cannon steel scraps in it, and after they melted, no separation or anything happened and the chunks were discharged as they were.

"So it means that if you don't have the right to use it, all you can do is melt it down and let it harden."

"I don't think it can be expanded from the cube form without me or Mina-sama."

"I see, so it seems to be all right then."

Reda-san, who had been watching our work for a while, returned to the guild halfway through, perhaps bored because he couldn't participate, or perhaps it was a bad time to get back to work.

For now, I have some idea of how to use it, so I decided to have lunch.

In the afternoon, I will try to make a weapon from this iron. A one-handed sword or dagger would be good for me or Rilfana to use.
