[Another Viewpoint] Magic VS Wyvern

[Targa]

Since the fortress of Centenna is considered to be within the territory of the Marquis of Fertio, the Marquis of Fertio would occasionally visit the fortress with his knights. Because of this situation, they were acquainted with each other. However, since there had been no major conflict with the Shelbia Confederacy for a long time, I did not know how the Marquis fought.

Therefore, I may have underestimated the Marquis Fertio without realizing it.

I felt strongly that he was a competent commander when I saw him immediately giving orders to the knights in front of me, preparing the fortress for defense and at the same time making preparations for the attack. One after another, he would issue instructions, and the commanders under the head of the Order of Knights who received the orders would act immediately. And upon receiving their reports, they would issue the next instruction without a pause.

Their actions are swift and precise. The head of the Marquis' knighthood is also excellent. His name is Stradale, I think. He looks like a knight from an aristocratic family, but there is no doubt that he has been through a lot.

In a normal siege battle, archers would be lined up on the turret, archers and magicians on the rooftop, and heavily armed infantry to protect them. However, before the battle began, the Marquis had a few words to discuss a tactic that was different from the conventional way.

Stradale executes that peculiar way of fighting as if he had always done it.

"Do not take artillery fire! Always hide behind buildings! Mage corps! If the walls collapse, restore them immediately! Infantry, fill the gaps with sandbags! Archers, watch out for artillery fire and do not allow the enemy to approach!"

What Stradale uttered were thorough defensive instructions. To the uninitiated, one would think he was a coward. But after receiving the information about the cannon and the black ball, they would see it differently.

"Order of Centenna! The cavalry and magic cavalry are standing by behind the gates! Be ready to move at any moment! Archers, join with the Knights of Fertio and shoot to kill anyone who approaches! Heavy infantry, come with me!"

He shouted angrily in defeat, and walked up the stairs. Occasional vibrations and explosions echoed. Small pieces of stone and dust are falling from the ceiling, but I can't be bothered.

"...Vermilion Magic Bullet Flam Fresia".

Immediately after ascending to the rooftop, magic was triggered in front of us. His black cloak flutters, and the golden bull and straight sword embroidered on his back catch the eye. Meanwhile, from the sorcerer's elbow onward, he was engulfed in flames, illuminating his surroundings in red.

The flames are so hot that they consume everything that comes near them. The flames blaze fiercely and stretch in a band to the sky. The wyverns flew in an arc to escape the fire, but the band of flames chased them, trying not to let them escape.

It is a remarkable amount of magic power just to keep the flames that powerful for that long, but to keep them moving as if they were alive is an astonishing magic manipulation technique.

If one were to ask who could wield such magic, the name of the same person would surely come to mind.

The magician, Marquis Fertio, is called the guardian of Scuderia by neighboring countries, and he drove the wyverns away in a dignified manner. The scales of the wyverns, which are flying dragons even though they are sub-dragons, are terribly hard. It is a standard practice for magicians to deal with wyverns because it requires many people to fight them off with swords and bows.

However, not many magicians would be able to deal with them as brilliantly as they did.

"Sir! Please be careful! Even though we got rid of the wyverns, the threat of the cannon is still there!"

"I know! I know! Let's go back!"

"Yes, sir!"

As he said this, the Marquis Fertio walked over, releasing a wide range of intense flames that covered the sky, as if he had been chanting for some time. The sky turned bright red at once, and the Marquis Fertio, walking toward us with the wall of flames behind him, looked like a demon. It was fortunate that this sorcerer was not an enemy.

"...That was brilliant, Your Excellency. The amount of magic power is as expected."

Mouthing this as he descended the stairs, the Marquis Fertio snorted and bent his mouth.

"Nonsense, just stalling for time. Even you can see that, can't you? The enemy is definitely moving and using cannons, and even using wyverns to drop black balls from the sky. It is no longer possible to predict how long a siege will last. Depending on their strength, we may be kicked out in a few hours."

He said this in the most grumpy manner, and I responded with a sigh.

"Yes. All we can do is to destroy the cannons and wyverns before they attack, but there will surely be traps set in the territory of the Shelbia Confederacy."

All sides are at a loss. I, the man in charge of protecting the key points, could not say so, but the Marquis de Fertio got the message loud and clear. He looked back at me with a cluck of his tongue, unable to hide his annoyance.

"You fool! Whether it is a fortress or a fortified city, the surrounding area should be prepared to give an advantage to your army! What the hell is this? If this continues, it will be the same as Scudetto...!"

I bow my head and apologize to the Marquis Fertio, who yells at me in a blood-curdling gravelly voice. Outside, the ground continues to shake with intermittent explosions, and the noisy voices of the soldiers can be heard.

If asked what had caused this chaos, it would undoubtedly be his own fault.

"...I am sorry. I will definitely take responsibility at a later date. But for now, we must first defeat the allied forces of Jiernetta and Shelbia."

"What the hell are you talking about...! Damn, he's a blustery fellow, but he's right. I'll think of a way to counterattack as soon as possible!"

"Ha!"

Marquis Fertio descends the stairs, his shoulders angry. As I follow his back, I rack my brain about what to do. If this land is taken, the Kingdom of Scuderia will definitely be disadvantaged.

He must defend it at all costs.
