Countdown | Short Story (Patreon)

The clock counts down. It’s always counting down, but for some reason on this one night each year the seconds really seem to matter. Those seconds can make someone reevaluate their life, and question their future. Short term promises, and lifelong commitments are made, all in a matter of moments. For some nothing will really change, just time passing, but with a bit more awareness than it had previously. Others will use it as a new start, a second, third, twentieth, eightieth chance at a fresh beginning. It’s a new chapter to the story, a page turning and the beginning of a sentence bursting for possibility. In those seconds that seem to drag on forever, the suspension grows and grows until suddenly… the world keeps turning.
