If you think this anime hard to follow you in for long ride with anime like Naruto and one piece etc because even though they don't going to vivid details with curse energy and so on its not all that difficult to follow so that's why it's going get s lot more strained for you for the long Hull if this anime confusing you

I agree with kode that this mini arc isnt important . It feels more like a side mission but i didnt find it confusing. Mahito did everything he did so that he could get a one on one with sukuna and try to convince him to join the other curses. That's it basically plot wise As for domain expansion its just their ultimate move.
