I think gdaddy coulda took out chrollo especailly if they would have had the luxury to do a normal assinantion. Gdaddy an OG he also never had to go on defense

Im assuming that Hisoka didn't have a cloned body because if he did, Kurapika would have thought he died too. He would immediately know the troupe was alive if Hisoka called him later, or at least assume so. So they did it for plot convience, very sloppy but animes do this kind of thing from time to time.
