Hello all,

Since yesterday, my computer doesn't start like it should. It seems to forget it's time and date every time as I need to go to the BIOS settings and set the correct date and time, before I'm able to do anything else on my pc.

Partly because of that reason, but mainly as my hard drive starts to make really loud ticks/clicks, I'm making a back-up of my entire D-drive (hopefully before the D drive crashes).

As there're quite some files, this might take a while to finish. At this moment there're 154.134 files left to be back-upped. Yesterday evening I've started the back-upping proces when there were like 189.000 files and I did let it work overnight.

During this process, I don't want to use my pc too much so it can focus on making this back-up. That's why there won't be any updates about my Sims stuff for the upcoming (probably) days.

When everything is back-upped, I will start to work on the grapevine and other plants again and buy a new hard drive!
I'm sorry for the delay, but I just hope to be able to save all of my files before something bad happens. :)

Thank you for your work and dedication. I fully understand. My 2TB was corrupted by Windows 11. Took over 2 months to restore the 500,000+ files.

It sounds like it needs a new CMOS battery, and the hard drive replaced. It should keep time once that battery is replaced. I've been a tech over 20 years, and I forget to back up usually until something happens to one of my drives. I love my SSD's but they last around ten years, and if you're constantly writing over files, they go out much quicker. A hard drive might be a bit slower, but way more dependable. The clicking could be caused by a faulty head. I'm glad your backing up now before it's too late!

Yes, I contacted the company from which I bought it back in 2017 and they also said that it probably is the CMOS battery :) Strange enough, now that I kept my pc on for more hours then usual, I didn't had the problem with the BIOS setting thingy this morning. But normally I fully disconnect the power of my pc when I'm not using it and I didn't do that now. So it's still a good plan to replace it I suppose. Thanks about the info about HDD and SSD. I was thinking about a new SSD, but now I'm not sure anymore as it's only for data. Will dive a bit deeper into this before buying something new. :)
