AS OF THIS MORNING (SEP 1 2022)

The newest Slippi update has broken compatibility with the Combo Counter

We are working on a fix - stay tuned

---

The Melee Combo Counter is here - making a surprise announcement as work on Animelee TE continues!

This pack includes every M22 era character (everyone but Kirby), as well as the Animelee remaster stage skins.

*100% Slippi netplay compatible!*

---

Proud to announce that I've collaborated with Janthor to create a working in-game combo counter!

Janthor did a lot of the dev work on Beyond Melee, where he first coded his combo counter. I've worked with him to design a new look and features for Animelee!

If you're interested in seeing what he's up to, follow him at:

INSTALLATION

Drag a Vanilla Melee ISO onto the Combo Counter patcher and choose from a few installation options including:

- Installing the combo counter with Animelee or with Vanilla style skins
- Choosing what colour CSS you want
- Choosing if you want the combo counter coin to spin or not

Widescreen Version:

Square Version:

SET UP NOTES

If you choose the Widescreen version, you'll need to enable the
"Optional: Center Align 2P HUD" gecko code in Dolphin

These ISOs include the minified HUD - you can download it separately
(see attached)

I've made custom textures for the HUD damage % that match the combo counter
(see attached)

Check out how to set up the CSS if you haven't set it up already

The custom counter does not display properly with doubles!

Please note that because this is made with m-ex, you won't be able to use DTW to modify files and will instead have to download m-exTool if you want to customize your character and stage skins for this ISO.

This combo counter is a great idea. There are so many other things you guys could add in that would make melee even more sick. Would love to see some reversal text on the screen when you hit someone quickly after you leave hitstun. Even counters for current neutral openings this stock, or other useful in-game slippi stats

Primal

Definitely planning on adding more! Have to stay mindful of what might give people unfair advantages on Slippi though

so is HUD DAMAGE NUMBERS.zip/ IfAll-MINIFIED-HUD.usd just the combo counter if you already have skins on your iso? I just want to get the combo counter in and not the full m22 patcher.

Primal

Future releases of the combo counter will allow for it to be "added on" like you're describing, but this one isn't currently. Still getting familiar with m-ex based mods!

So I want to use this ISO as a baseline and replace a few costumes with custom skins, but I can't figure out how to use mextool correctly to replace the files like I easily can with DTW. any tutorial out there for that?

Primal

Currently the easiest method I know of is: Open the ISO with m-exTool (File > Open ISO) Go to File > Export As > File System Outside of m-exTool, open the location of the file system and swap the files you want (make sure to replace the correct files when swapping, and name them the same as the original file) Back in m-exTool, go File > Open File System and choose the folder it's in Finally, go File > Export As > ISO Let me know if that makes sense!

Primal

Basically, once you have the ISO unpacked as a file system, you can just swap files yourself and then open the file system in m-exTool and export the file system as an ISO

Anonymous

I did this, but when I try to open the filesystem, it won't load anything and I can't export it as a new ISO =(

Primal

m-ex modifies some of the files when it converts them to it's system. Currently I've identified that IfAll.usd is really touchy to changes and will prevent m-exTool from recognizing that it can load the file system. What files did you swap?

Will this work on console? like in Nintendont?

Anonymous

update: discovered that it will freeze on console when you get into a match/fight

Great pack! I have a bit of a problem though. For mine, the player select screen is Animelee, but when it comes to the player 1-4 slots, for example, on vs mode or online they're the vanilla melee designs when it comes to actually selecting the character. Any help is appreciated and lmk if this question even makes sense!

Primal

Check out the instructions on the CSS post on how to set up Dolphin's HD texture swapping feature, along with the HD textures themselves

Wow you people are fast! Thank you, and I installed a lot of the skin mods using mexTool, including the icons and pictures, will I need to redo those or will it change to the animelee versions on some of them without me needing to do them all over again?

Primal

Not 100% on that one since it depends on what you swapped. You'll have to let me know!

Anonymous

Will do, thank you! I guess not a huge problem since I saved the icons and pictures so I don't have to download and look for them all over again, if that's the case.

Anonymous

Update: Everything worked fine and none of the skins I added from "ssbmtextures" or through here(DBZ) got deleted. Thanks again!

Hey, sick pack. I have a question about the combo counter HUD. The combo counter is always at the bottom of the screen, while other people have it at the top. How do I change its location?

Primal

Currently the "square" download has the CC at the placed top, whereas the "widescreen" download has it at the bottom. You can also customize the combo counter to a pretty extensive degree by editing the values in the Combo.ini file if you unpack the ISO as a file system

Anonymous

Hello, love the pack been using it the last 3 days :D However with the recent slippi update the iso wont load?

Primal

Yes, the most recent Slippi update has taken all m-ex builds offline I'm in communication with the Slippi team about it - hopefully we can work something out since this affects many more builds than just this one!

Anonymous

When i go to launch the iso it built it just opens a black screen

Primal

From the post description: "AS OF THIS MORNING (SEP 1 2022) The newest Slippi update has broken compatibility with the Combo Counter" All m-ex builds are currently offline, but they will be supported again in the near future. Slippi itself will be moving to m-ex at some point so its for sure coming back.
