So, very interesting — this Korean group is comprised of members who are deaf. I believe this is K-pop’s first deaf group and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was the first outside of K-pop as well. Super cool.

Thanks Pamela for the great suggestion.

To clarify, towards the beginning. They all have hearing impairments. One of the members has a cochlear implant and the other two rely on hearing aids (I think).

they all lost their hearing but rely on hearing aids & cochlear implant’s. so they can communicate effectively. they also are good at lip reading and have learned sign language recently so it is not perfect yet. they use ai technology to fix their vocals as well. this is really cool im rooting for them

I would also recommend checking out their debut song Glow. After having poked my nose into three lives, they are such a sweet trio. Hyunjin started losing his hearing at age two after a high fever, relied on hearing aids from 5-9, and then had a cochlear implant at 9 after losing more of his hearing. Chanyeon lost his hearing when young too, and also has a cochlear implant. Jiseok was born with a hearing impairment. (He’s the youngest member at 21 - the other two are 26 and 25).

My guys! I can't watch rn because I have work tomorrow so need to sleep but I'm so excited you're checking them out. They just debuted on Saturday on Music Core and they did so well- they've improved so much even since their predebut covers. It looks like they're planning to release a song every month or so to keep momentum going vs drop an album then go quiet. They go live so much their community is already growing well.

I’m loving these guys. I know it’s not easy at all to sing or dance (to music) with a hearing impairment, so kudos for these guys for putting themselves out there, super impressed. And of course it’s awesome to have guys like them representing the deaf community, I’m sure they’ll inspire many young deaf artists🙏 also looking forward to following their journey

WAHHH im so happy you watched them!

I was thinking about suggesting them to you, so cool you already knew.

They have really interesting ways to communicate with their fandom even before debut. From what I have seen so far, they are live on tiktok for hours every day and basically show everything.

What was interesting to me is that when they were speaking Korean I also couldn't hear a difference to what I was used to but when they speak English I hear a slight difference in tone. That is just an interesting detail about your own perception depending on how well you know a language.

Awe Max you watched them! Thank you for taking my suggestion. I'm so glad you did this. I just got home from work & can't wait to watch it!!

Also I believe one of them said that RM's donation to his school helped him & others be able to pursue music. I have the link bookmarked.

I finally got to watch this properly! People have already linked the Korea Now interviews which would be great to check out if you want to know more about the boys. This was their debut stage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9aO2P5Tby-4 You did really well picking out some of their traits. Hyunjin was a youtuber/influencer before he became a trainee so he is definitely the most experienced on camera. Jiseok was a para-ski athlete and Chanyeon worked in a hospital. To my ear they all have some level of a deaf accent, but Hyunjin and Jiseok especially received speech therapy growing up so I think it's quite minimal. What's super impressive is they all also speak English and try to communicate in English with fans during their lives and their pronunciation is good! It must be so difficult to learn another spoken foreign language with a hearing impairment but these boys work really hard. They've said that they try to communicate verbally around other people so others can also understand and they lip read and have various hearing aids and cochlear implants. Sometimes if one of them misses something another will sign to them. Since this video the company they're with has developed specific technologies to help them perform. They now have vibrating watches that give the beat of the music, and they use a light metronome which will be linked to audience phones to help them perform without needing to use sound. Their company is called Parastar Entertainment and they represent disabled artists in a range of areas and decided to make a kpop group to try and have disabled artists at the highest level of entertainment. Big Ocean fans also have an official fandom name now- Pado (it means Waves in Korean). They're growing so much every day and they go live multiple times a day to share the journey it's really special. I hope they get the attention and opportunities they deserve both for themselves and for the impact they will have for the next generation of kpop hopefuls. Please check out more of them if you would like to.

One of the members even thanked RM for donationing to their school bc now they're able to flourish!! Wishing them nothing but greatness!

I was so excited when my sister sent me a video of them. I’m hard of hearing and have to wear hearing aids and it’s so cool to see representation, any where really, but with it being K-pop I was so shocked. I can’t wait to see what they do. AND they are learning ASL which is just crazy to me. That’s what I use so it’s cool to see them learn it and use it.

It’s going to be interesting to see how they manage being hard of hearing/deaf and being a hard of hearing/deaf K-pop idol. The fact he was telling them not to mouth the words when they sign the song is crazy to me but I also understand where it comes from. I have a feeling hard of hearing/deaf fans are going to have a hard time watching them live but I guess time will tell. They see super sweet and cute.
