THIS song is called "Here to Stay" and is about someone moving from the country to the city, and loving it there. AVeryBearyBear (fellow Patron and all around nice person) commissioned this, and in a turn of coincidence, we BOTH have experienced this. I'm from the middle of nowhere, and simply being able to walk to a store blows my mind still after 5 years in a more urban environment.
You'll hear a lot of Trombone hits, tropical-sounding electric guitar that converses with the bass, and one of my more pop-hook choruses. I tried to do an asymmetrical phrase structure in the verse, and I THINK it sounds natural. The punchy rhythmic "Think about it think it over and you'll get it" pattern makes me proud. Another long one too at nearly 4.5 minutes. Tell us what you think in the comments. I did a legit key-change so now no one can make fun of me.

Life update - Hi everybody and thank you for sticking around my Patreon through the pandemic. I know that bills keep rolling in and that money is tight for everyone so any spare dollar that floats my way in the middle of it? Thank you.
I've been keeping a semi-regular schedule, trying to work on work days, relax on weekends, and I'm spending a LOT of time walking around my neighborhood. I'm lucky in that nobody really... walks here? That sounds strange. Phoenix is a town with a ton of people, but those people are usually in a building or in a car, and this allows me to walk around without much fear of COVID. Mental health-wise I'm doing better than most but the baseline stress of "The world" and its present condition is a constant drag on my energy and productivity, which I don't say for sympathy, but rather to let you all know that I'm feeling it too. It's impossible not to, and feeling bad during the most stressful time in recent history is okay.
What direction should I be moving in creatively while we wait for conventions and live shows to be possible again? I think about this a lot. Should I keep doing this cycle of commissions? Should I stop writing and do more live shows online? Should I write another long youtube essay? I dunno. I DID start a podcast along with some friends. You can listen to it here: https://lastminutepolitics.carrd.co
and its also on every podcast distribution thing. Spotify, Apple Music, etc. How about you? How are things holding up?
Here To Stay - Song for AVery
Signed, sealed, packed, delivered
Straight from the farm, I’m livin in midtown
And I’m lookin at my watch, movin
Car, bus, bike, sneakers. Feels like this craziness
it washes over me.
Our time is thinkin’ bout tomorrow
Won’t you let me take your hand.
Yeah we are what we make each-other.
The rest of our lives might be
Only “do you get it? Think about it,
think it over and you get it.”
Chorus:
I will never give up on this town
I will never give up on this town
I will never give up
I will never give up, up, up, I’m here to stay
I will never give up on this town
I will never give up, I’m gonna
Shine all I can, I’m here to stay.
Think about the dust we’re raisin
And how you and I are makin’ it work though
Hold eachother when you’re slipping, oh
Bars, Clubs, and if you’re comin’ up our way,
walk or drive or fly to us
Share in what we have
We’re all workin’ on tomorrow
I found good parking yesterday
Drink a coffee and wake each other
Back to the grind and you know
We’re gonna get it. Gonna keep the pressure on.
We’re gonna get it.
