This was a tough one to record.

So I'm gonna be releasing my next album in late 2020, and it's going to be called "Family Portrait". It'll contain songs about my family members, specifically my mom, dad, brother, and my late sister Patti. This is her song, and don't worry. I didn't have a death in the family and hide it from you. She died 5 years ago and I'm working through it, partly with this song.

I still need to add more layers and mix, but this is a pretty good idea of what it's meant to be.

Remember when we used to

stay up late at night?

Listening though all the old AL albums

tryin’ hard to sing em’ right

We were terrible at

not being too loud

Oh how your sight-less eyes were searching

while we were standing in a crowd

I should have found the way to reach you

I should have made the time to call

I should have came to you with answers

you didn’t have to do it all

Write a song to jot down

all the things I had to say

I’m sorry that I didn’t get there

yesterday.

—————

That time that I got you to

buy us a trampoline

We didn’t have no one’s permission

And that made quite a scene

And I’m ashamed to say I didn’t

I didn’t predict at all

You disappeared before my 18th

with a note that said you’d call

I heard you mother was a druggie

that’s how you got so far behind

The lord he started you with nothing

and still you gave him every dime

I wish I’d dragged you from Ohio

saying “Come what may”

and I’m sorry that I didn’t get there

yesterday.

—————

boy I bet that you would

hate how I sing now

You never were that much for screamin’

Still I think I’d made you proud

For all the love and kindness

that you gave to me

and now that I can never thank you

or know who you were gonna be?

I hope you had some friends to comfort

I hope you kept all of your pride

I hope you found your needed freedom

I hope you know I’m sad you died.

Here I try to be the brother

that I should have stayed

and I’m sorry that I didn’t get there

yesterday.
