The Elevator Eighty-First Floor (Patreon)

Cardonali the magical imp was doing what he always did, he caused  trouble to others for his own amusement. Cardonali had the ability to  put any thought into a person's mind and manipulate them as he wanted  to. He stood unobserved or at least unacknowledged in the back of an  elevator waiting to see who would get in.

When Brad entered the elevator, he saw a well-dressed man who was obviously nervous about something.  He checked to make sure the elevator was headed for the lobby and stood in a corner.

The man was mumbling something to himself, but Brad took no heed.  That was until the man got down on one knee in front of him.

"Brad," the stranger said, "you and I have known each other for quite some time."

Brad wanted to say, "What are you talking about?  I've never seen you before!", but he was speechless due to Cardonali's influence.

"And I have been thinking what my life would be like if I was to lose you.  I just couldn't bear it.  I love you so much..."

Brad knew what the man was about to say.  This man he had never seen before.  Brad raised his hands in shock.

"...and so, because you are the most wonderful person I've ever known and I want to spend the rest of my life with you.  I guess what I am saying is, WILL YOU MARRY ME?"

Brad thought he was in shock before when this guy he had never seen before got down on his knee in an elevator, but that was nothing compared to the shock he felt when he answered, "YES, YES, YES!!!"

Doug rose to his feet and the two kissed.  They would buy a ring later.

Brad called his family to give them the good news before the elevator reached the lobby.
