FYI Any movie made before the 80s is going to be slower paced and take its time easing into the story as that was the general style and capable attention spans of people from that time or before. I recall you commented similarly in your reaction to Alien. It was really into the 80s and beyond that faster editing and cutting went into affect as movie going audiences were able to process information much quicker than ever before. Television, commercials, and MTV being a main factor in this.

Tried to watch the full version but I'm pretty sure I had the extended copy, little confused when you jumped ahead but glad I can watch along now. Like Matt mentioned no CGI was used in this film instead there was a mix of matte paintings and practical sets along with models and of course a rear projector for the background flying shots of Superman flying over Metropolis which is pretty much New York in this film. This is pretty much what they did with Star Wars as well which Superman no doubt was greatly inspired by from a technical standpoint. Should mention that in the comics Metropolis over time created it's own identity and style going for a retro futuristic 1950s city of the future with alot of Art Deco and 1950s Googie architecture. For live action it's difficult to create a whole city so they went for New York deciding to film there and oddly enough even featuring the Statue of Liberty. In my head canon Superman flew to New York City to show lois the Statue of Liberty as Metropolis should be located in New York State, some renditions feature the city in New Jersey and even Illinois so closer to Chicago. Little History on CGI: The first CGI used in film was Westworld 1973 cinema's first 2D computer images. The inspired sequel Futureworld 1976 was the first film to use 3D computer graphics. TRON 1982 was the first extensive 3D film while The Last Starfighter 1984 was also one of the first film to feature the extensive use of CGI the integrated use of photo-realistic, computer-generated (CGI) models, rather than more traditional miniature models like we saw in Star Wars. You'll have a blast with any of these films that gave birth to early CGI.

It was difficult to create a whole city until 1989 and a young up and coming director named Tim Burton 😉
