Patreon will be changing the way it covers the fees (transactions etc.) on the 18th of December. I thought I'd just let you know, in case you missed it but I'll also offer concrete numbers on how this will affect the Patrons of each individual of my tiers.

Why are they doing this?

Because us creators so far only recieved about 80-88% of the amount that was actually pledged, so there is a possible maximum loss of 20%. Well, it's not lost, it's to cover fees. So now they are changing it so that creators have a steady payout of 95% (5% being Patreons standard fee). I personally like it to be more predictable but I also wouldn't have minded continuing on like it was.

What changes for you?

You have to pay more than you're pledging and this is where it can get troublesome for some people, especially in the lower tiers. I know that there are some people out there, that can afford only spending so much money on stuff like this. I'm also not mad, if this will make you drop your pledge, I can totally understand. Each pledge will be charged with a fee of 2.9% of the pledge plus a flat $0.35 per pledge. Let's do some math:

If you're in the $1 tier this means you'll have to pay:

$1.00 + $0.03 + $0.35 = $1.38

If you're in the $5 tier this means you'll have to pay:

$5.00 + $0.15 + $0.35 = $5.50

If you're in the $10 tier this means you'll have to pay:

$10.00 + $0.29 + $0.35 = $10.59

This gives you a good idea, how the lower tiers are affect more by these change, especially if you have several of those going. So be sure to check all the pledges you've got going, before the next month rolls around.

I hope this was somewhat informative and kind of helps to understand the whole situation. I guess this was something like a PSA :D

Have a good day!
