Hi Returning Visitors,

I hope you're doing well.

It's time to unveil the next romance route that was voted on by Hickory patrons. 🍂

You'll not only be spending time with a special someone (or someones), but also discovering different parts of Fernweh, learning lore hints, influencing your romance dynamic, interacting with a friend, and more. I feel like we've been waiting together to get into these. The cat trying to steal a pancake might give you a hint about who's up next. No, I couldn't find a waffle one, but B likes both!

(I'll be finding themed GIFs for each reveal.)

The next RO Excursion is: B. Warrick, which means you must be romancing them to unlock the new content in Chapter 2. You'll be making this choice during the main character creation.

Your MC will be triggering special bestie/best friend scenes with the other characters; this is a heads-up to excite you.

As a reminder: Mal can appear in all of these RO excursions if you're romancing them as well. In most cases, they will engage with the MC! B's variation can show Mal's ferocity. 👀

✨ I will be direct messaging you on Patreon with the link and password information, so I request your patience, please, as I send out these messages when/if the benefit is available to you. ✨

  • The guidelines for alpha content can be found: here along with how to add your Discord account. Please remember that this content is only for TFS patrons.
  • There are some teasers/hints for the next drop at the end of this one that you can choose to view or not.
I will have the next alpha content drop ready for eligible TFS patrons to explore in December.

💞RO Excursions!💞 That's where we will be for a while, and I'm so excited for you to experience them.

Thank you for all of your support and encouragement! 💚🥰

(Reminder: Please be sure to add my email address: lacunafiction@gmail.com to your contacts. I try to send out character portrait emails within 24 hours of a patron joining, so you might need to check your spam if you haven't received one. You can also always reach out to me as well!)

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAÀAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA (SPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOILERSPOULER) I GENUINELY SQUEALED, PHOEBE FINALLY KISSED HER *AAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!* Ahem OK Needed to get that out of my system. Heck, Bee was ready to SHANK a bitch. I mean, Phoebe *did* immediately leap into action at the smallest threat of an attack on Bee, so I suppose same energy but damn I'm worried for her. Seems a little... she needs comfort and love. And Phoebe is more than willing to give it. "I can't be a regret" Girl nobody could ever regret you. Least of all Phoebe, who has been in love for fucking *ever*. Don't you worry, we're getting out of here Honey Bee. Together.

BEE MY BELOVED <33

Sadie

That was one intense RO excursion. And well, you werent kidding about ferocious Mal <3. Here I am trying to pay attention to B cuz they're so sweet and its their time to shine and I luv them but here comes smackdown Mal doing Mal things and all of a sudden I get my usual Mal-tunnel vision dammit... My MC will 100% go feral and knock all the disrespectful town clowns out for B, always. They deserve the best and it hurts seeing how much theyre hurting and trying to deal with things on top of having the townsfolk literally after them, JEESH. and omg I cant with Mal sneaking in a childrens menu and crayons for B with the other menus??? Is there a pattern here? First it was the kiddy bendy straw with the choco milk and now crayons...LOL

Oohhhh i just played through the alpha a few times and now i have so many thoughts First, you really feel the melancholy B is going through in nearly every aspect of the writing and the toll its taking on our friendship. The MC having to check if B wants to meet with them?? Broke my heart Second, THE BESTIE SCENE WERE MY FAVORITE PART. I have only read the one with J and the one with R so far but wow. Now i get why their dad called them star. Verner literally shone even in that short scene. "Friends dont needlessly upset friends" YOU TELL THEM! God i could write paragraphs abt the way R views friendships but this is already long enough Also this is just me wanting my two favorite characters to be friends but i would love if B and R bonded over the fact they both know-ish Spanish Reading through some of the past things we did with B was fun too. It really shows how much our "extended stay" affected them. Also clingy drunk Bee was adorable. I will never let them live that down Im gonna need to play through all the dialogue choices when it comes to the obelisk arent i? Im figuring out all the town's secrets for better or for worse. Probably for worse (side eyes the ???) THE DINER FIGHT OH MY GOOOOD! Seeing a new side of Bee was such a bonus. AND MAL TOO??? Literally swooning rn. Tentatively i wonder if Mal seeing how fierce B was about us might give them a few points in Mals book. Or alternatively, be seen as more of a threat since so far Mal only really saw them as childish (i mean the kids menu? Brutal, Mal) ALSO I KISSED BEE AND IT WAS LITERALLY THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY DAY. Knowing me i will probably do the slowest burn route just for fun but having so many choices is so good r.i.p

Just to leave a comment about this months drop, beware some spoilers (ill try to keep it vague): It was lovely. My god I think this has to be my favorite drop this far, which is very very surprising since I've loved all of them for different reasons (but most importantly because we get more insight into the characters and what they're up to) but something about how B's drop went down just left me speechless for all kinds of different reasons. As you probably know by now I love the uncanny horror vibes of Fernweh, that combined with the angst ongoing in B's route, coupled with the MC's frequent nightmares just left me giddy with each passage I was reading. Truthfully, I was fearing for the worst when B wasn't to be found anywhere and I love how B was constantly on the MC's mind throughout the day. (I wonder if B knows how much they mean to us...) I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the many options and variations for A and wherever they had a crush on B or not. I love that you gave us a choice regarding /that/ thing and I'm looking forward to the consequences to MC's actions in the future! If anything this drop really highlighted how much depth B as a character has and how they're their very own character, with their very own feelings and thoughts and actions. There are a lot of ifs where it feels like the cast is just a narrative tool orbiting around the MC without any agency of their own (or the opposite is true as well, where the MC is just a tool to make the cast shine) but I never get that feeling from any of the characters in Fernweh, no matter if romanced or not. I love that B isn't stuck in a stereotype but has the events of Fernweh shape their character which is in turn reflected in their actions, the diner scene was impeccable and I was on the edge of my seat with how it all unfolded. Naturally, my MC will not let any slander against precious Bee slide but the same was true for B as well, the realization kicked in that Yes, B /also/ won't let any slander towards the MC slide, going so far out of their usual norm because someone close is threatened. It's hard to explain the feeling that went through me at that moment but it really warmed by heart to realize that it's a very mutual feeling between B and MC, it's not a one way street whatsoever and I commend you writing and creativity to highlight the bond shared between them. I know that B did something similiar in the first book, taking MC's side and standing up for them but this scene was obviously different in intensity, coupled with B's current mental well-being. All that dread and anxiety was worth it at the end, /that/ scene still lives rent free in my head after reading through it multiple times, that's how well written it was. Mid-showered B covered in only a towel...be still my beating heart 🥰 Can't really fault my MC for having a short blackout being greeted by that sight. Meanwhile they're still covered in soda juice and ketchup goo...lol. I was very happy that B and the MC could make up for the almost kiss at the end of the first book, it's very deserved and both are in desperate need of loving support to one another. Also a huuuge fan of how S/R/J were written depending on which one was closest to you, the variations are kind of insane. All of them were very distinguished from one another but didn't feel any less of a good friendship. Which is great because not every friendship plays out the same and I like that this was something you have clearly thought about. Mal as usual was just ....chefskiss. There is something so biting about them when they see the MC with any of the RO's, though I think it hurts me the most when that piercing gaze is directed at B, sweet sweet B deserves some good ol' loving. I really felt like I had split tunnelvision zoomed in on B and Mal at that diner scene, both of their ferocities left me winded, it was very satisfying seeing it from Mal, that effortless strength? How swift they'll deal with a nuisance? I really wish I knew what went through their mind when they saw that scene unfolding and the same applies to B as well, I wish I knew what went through their head at that moment. (Honestly my MC kind of moved by reflex, they might not have the physical strength but who wouldn't do anything in their power for sweet Bee?) But my god, the citizens of Fernweh are really just a bunch of weirdos aren't they? Stuck in a town together and instead of trying to get along you have weirdos like that guy causing a scene for nothing and being so quick to resort to violence, almost happily when it comes to the MC and B who are viewed as outsiders. It just makes me wonder how many more of them are leaning towards violent tendencies if it means they can act it out against the outsiders? And I wonder if that is why Mal keeps warning the MC in every playthrough, regardless of romance or not...

I'm not saying that the best hugs are Mrs. Dorran's hugs....but I'm not NOT saying that. Also thought I should share some of my save names: "Wet J Corvin o.o" "Hrrrrng" And now "Becket Hrrrrng"

Becca 😭😭😭 crying. dead. I love B so much. The kiss was EVERYTHING!!!! Also I loved the diner scenes. SO GOOD. B & the MC are so down for each other lolol. It feels like the plot really heats up on B’s route, I loved that. I need to go reread those scenes a million times.

This was the route I'm planning to use to switch to Mal. I was suddenly regretting my decision when the date went to the diner, then back to no regrets when Mal got to play such a large part. 😎 Also, I know this is B's date and everything but I couldn't help but think: I wouldn't want to be that coach guy stuck at the station when/if J hears what he did to the MC. 😱 B's drunk puns in that one memory were very cute. 🧡

Finally read the B route, and man, was that intense.

i've only gotten a chance to play it a handful of times (so clearly i still have a lot more to discover) but the shrieks that came out of me when reading this!!! B I LOVE YOU!!! Everything in this update was everything I never anticipated and yet everything I desperately am so glad I got! The small flashback of the roadtrip was so sweet, and I loved being able to see B's dynamic with MC before Fernweh went and decided that it was time for a change. It was heartwarming to see their friendship and B without the frustrations and anxieties of being trapped in a single location. (my poor heart tho, knowing it'd been so long since something sweet happened between the two of them). Sienna shares some of B's frustrations in being trapped her, tho I think outwardly she's more spiteful than he is? The abandonment rly never left her and while she's taking time and steps to move past it, it's difficult to. Anyways, finally getting to spend some time with B was enough to soothe the anxieties she was feeling- and offer some clarity in how her dearest friend was feeling. I did laugh at R telling Sienna to stop her worries. I found it so funny at their blatant "cease and desist". She was definitely stunned to see the ferocity of B's loyalty and protectiveness. (Was it hot? Mayhaps so.) Momentarily worried that ketchup was blood, very relieved it wasn't. The kiss! The KISS!! Splendid, wonderful, left her feeling butterflies. B calling it their thing- my heart! I definitely need to go back and replay things at a much slower pace to see if I like the pacing there more. Sienna is just so into B, how could she resist such a prime opportunity! But there is the saying about those who wait... And regret? There can never be any regrets, not to Sienna. Not if it's B. I was curious to see Mal's scenes so I did do a quick loop around to to throw Noire onto B's route and angled moreso as a platonic soulmates kinda vibe (Sienna is a bit too intimidated by our server to see what they're putting down). And oh boy!! Noire was already feeling heated at someone being an ass to his best friend (he was definitely prepared to throw hands at the escalation), but a very different heat once he saw Mal put someone in a chokehold. There's something to be said about Noire and violence that bleeds into protectiveness that just only makes a person more attractive in his eyes (also you B i see you). Regardless, he definitely did not want Mal to lose their job over him- he'd feel too bad about that! But also Mal, you cannot be mean to his bestie! He was definitely giving our enigmatic server a side eye at their little quips. But it's not as if Mal has been the most friendly to anyone else either, so Noire will be on his toes navigating that moving forward. (he'd rather not be in the middle of any fights between people of interest, but never say never as they say...) Also everyone just watching all this go down in the diner like a free show- I had to laugh when I looked at things objectively. I too would be heavily invested in such a dramatic scene while eating my pancakes. Regardless, you did splendid with this update and I am so very pleased by everything I've experienced so far! I'm so excited to go thru and try new combinations and see what other variations are in it! I think I've enjoyed B's excursion the most so far.

I've done a few playthroughs of the B excursion now and there's so much to process. Firstly, my heart hurts for Bee who feels as if they have nothing in Fernweh except the MC. Almost everyone else in town is either staring at or pointedly ignoring the outsider, B is scared they're going to be trapped in a place where no one wants them. January wants to leave too, but it's different - she has her old friends, the bookshop, she has good and bad memories. A moment of levity: I was cackling when I chose the diffusing the situation options and Klay was like "I'm going to beat both your asses" and January was like "...you don't have to..." 😆 Ugh the fight was so intense and I was cheering when B broke the bottle, and it was acknowledged that B was at the end of their rope with all the recent events. I love, love, love that reaction. There's only so much one person can take and that B isn't just somehow instantly "over it" and back to normal. I'm obsessed with the loving description of wet Beckett in the towel. 😍 Don't look at me playing again for Becca's version 🤗 Also my Mal run! I haven't played a Mal for quite a while. I think I checked it out briefly to see the scene where Mal throws rocks at the MC's window. So, maybe I never picked this choice before but ooooooh, at the bookstore if you choose to be soft, you get a line about Mal not being able to meet your MC's eyes. Not Mal giving Bee the kid's menu and Bee ignoring that completely??? lol AUGH, I would love a Mal POV of the diner fight. Mal is a possessive red flag waving individual, who obviously was feeling some sort of way watching B and Jam sitting closely in the booth and then watching a town asshole try to kick Jam when she's down (and then take out a KNIFE). Lots going on there!!!
