Bunny, you kill me! "The women!!!"

Anthony & Meg (Screenplayhouse)

Greetings Bunny. Your prediction of the end of this episode made my wife and I join. I could write a BOOK about the impact of this episode on me and my wife. (In fact, and I'm not kidding, I wrote a quality semi-true screenplay about Jeffrey Hunter's journey to and past Captain Pike. A story that a friend later pointed out becomes The Cage itself.) Anyway, I want to share I am the youngest of 3 brothers. Because they were older and already weary of Disney, my Disney age was brief. Instead of seeing BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS, I saw DOG DAY AFTERNOON. I saw 2001 when I was 6 and POSEIDON ADVENTURE when I was 8. For some reason I had no problem being on this advanced films studies course. I mention all this to prepare you for the fact I was likely 11 years old the first time I saw THE MENAGERIE. The way you emotionally reacted to all this? Imagine how impressionable it would have been when you were 11? Spock's GALAXY CLASS act of kindness and compassion has meant more to me than any religious doctrine anywhere. http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51btaVQu2VL._SY344_BO1,204,203,200_.jpg

Your observation that some parts of The Cage didn't make it into The Menagerie is entirely correct. Not only were the other zoo specimens left out, there was a specific line of dialogue removed by Standards and Practices, the network's censors. Pike: What, and dress you in the same metal fabric they wear? Vina: I have to wear something... don't I? That last line was deemed a bit too provocative for the viewers, yet somehow a green slave woman gyrating to some kickass music was perfectly acceptable. Not that I have any complaint about their choice.
