Malinda thought the day couldn't wait for the day to end.  Nothing spectacular happened throughout the day.  Or the week for the matter.  Heck, it had been a long time since something happened to break up the humdrum of her day.

Leaving work, the air felt oddly still. She wasn't aware of it yet but the entire atmosphere around here had changed.  The chill of the night had just set in as the sun was mostly behind the horizon and a late night at work had her leaving alone again.

A rush of endorphins hit, and she fell to her knees.

"What... is happening?" She asked, looking at her hands as the pulsing inside her body made it hard to see straight. Her hands, her fingers, her eyes. Taking a deep breath, she closed her eyes and began calming herself through a simple meditation.

As she took another breath out, she finally opened her eyes. Nothing had changed. The sounds of the street sounded clearer, and familiar. The shadows of the looming buildings, cast by the setting sun, a reminder of the hour. Shaking her head one more time, she stood up. Mock brushing off her work attire as one does when falling over, she took one step forward.

But the pulsing returned. This time there was a much more dramatic effect. As her foot landed it swelled, as did the rest of her body.  Every effort she made forward was to protect her balance as she rose above the once mighty buildings and the sun washed over her once more.

As the feeling stopped she slowly opened her eyes to what she knew to already be true. Looking directly into the upper offices of once proud office building, the silence before chaos broke out, was deafening.

Malinda had no words. In the moment of silence while everyone processed what exactly had happened, she only had the time to look down and realize her office attire was no more. Ducking and covering herself, the modest woman heard as the city reacted in waves around her. She ducked her head, wishing immediately to return to her boring commute home. The wail of sirens and the people fleeing below sounded surreal. She never wanted the monotony to be broken up with something so drastic. What she wouldn't do to be at home curled up watching the same comedy she'd seen a hundred times.
