Thomas Richter

This movie to me shows a man dealing with extreme loneliness and depression after the Vietnam war, he lacks purpose and tries to find human connection while isolating himself from society. He finally finds purpose on a young prostitute he wants to save. I and probably many people here can relate with him.

Harvey Keitel, who plays the long-haired pimp, also played Mr. White in Reservoir Dogs. After the scene where Travis first shoots Harvey's character, Dasha uses the term "cleaner," which is a role played by Harvey in two other movies: Point of No Return and Pulp Fiction. In that first film, released in 1993 and starring Bridget Fonda and Gabriel Byrne, Keitel has a minor role as a cleaner, someone hired by criminals to remove evidence (and sometimes witnesses) from a crime scene before law enforcement arrives. In Pulp Fiction, he played the Wolfe character, a problem solver whose precise guidance greatly helped Jules and Vincent clean up their car and relocate before Jimmie's wife returned from her overnight shift. I'm glad you finally got around to watching Taxi Driver. I hope you eventually review some other De Niro classics like Analyze This (and its sequel, Analyze That), Casino, and his most recent Scorsese film, The Irishman, in which Al Pacino and Joe Pesci co-star. By the way, Travis Bickle might not not be a hero in the conventional sense of the word, but he at least was an anti-hero, or a vigilante.

Oh, and De Niro also stars in Godfather 2, a film I'm surprised Dasha hasn't reacted to given how much she seemed to enjoy the first one.
