Dylan Meconis is one of my oldest friends. We met in our Seattle high school and today live about ten minutes away from each other in Portland, with our desks at Helioscope literally touching.

Our group of friends and us, we are feeling... well. You've seen the news. It's overwhelming. Dylan, though, was raised in an activist household and has literally grown up learning how to maintain doing this in the long run from people who have devoted their lives to it. So she sent this short message to us yesterday, and with her permission I'm sharing it with you all too.

The greatest resistance figures in history didn't read Twitter all day.
Also they did stuff like take naps, make dinner, watch movies/read books, hang out with friends, and do paid work.
Humans aren't built to run on stress hormones. So if anybody (including  you!) berates you for not flipping your shit 24/7: kindly disregard.
"The opposition" wants you to be skittish and exhausted. Sometimes  cultivating rest, calm, and joy is an act of resistance, too.

I know I needed to read this. I hope it helps you too.

(Super Duper Obvious Clarification: This does not mean you should do nothing, ever. It means you have to take care of yourself inbetween Doing Things, and not beat yourself up for taking (NECESSARY) breaks in order to recharge. Here is my own list of Things To Do, if you would like a starting point :)

Tangential, but do you know of a guide to being a lady-type on the internet? (How to reduce/deal with online harassment?)
