The day before yesterday, Matt and I talked with Susen Shi, a Senior Librarian at the New York Public Library, live in front of an audience of high schoolers via Zoom. The focus of the talk was on our book, LET'S TALK ABOUT IT, but of course we also talked about Oh Joy Sex Toy and what it's like working together as a married couple and other stuff.

This was my first time having an ASL interpreter translating  my mouth noises live! I am so curious to know how my sentences read once they're converted into sign language.

On a personal note: I am shockingly, embarrassingly behind on all correspondence, messages, texts, and comments, going back a couple months now. If you're waiting on a reply from me, please know I am not ignoring you, I am just failing at being a functioning adult. Anything that needs a response, please contact Matt at matthewdanielnolan(at)gmail(dot)com

Here is me digging up my lawn instead of doing Actual Professional Paying Work or Online Business-Relationship Maintenance.

That's the section of lawn I dug up.

Now it looks like this:

This is what it looked like last year:

Here's what it looked like two years ago:

Fuck you, lawn! I'm comin' for ya!

ASL has MUCH more in common with French Sign Language than British Sign Language. ASL usually has a subject-verb-object structure. It's also more of a conceptual language, as in there's one sign for the concept of smart/clever/brilliant/etc. You differentiate between the different words using facial expressions, body language, or making small changes to how the sign is made. So happy to have the ASL interpreter on the interview!

Oh wow, an audience of high schoolers! That’s awesome. Well done to the NYPL for arranging that. And good work with the garden!
